Confirmed eh!

Barca are on the PR onslaught today... they're really trying to force Uniteds hand big time. In all seriousness, these guys just say anything and everything to get clicks, it's kinda getting boring now if i'm being honest
Saying De Jong doesn’t want to join United shouldn’t really increase the transfer fee though?

That’s more a personal decision Barcelona are trying to put through that doesn’t increase our transfer fee.

Imagine if he stills signs for us with Chelsea's reported interest. This thread will be flowing with juice

Again it could easily be from De Jongs camp to ensure United offer big money in terms of wage and agent fees.

I don't understand people blaming ten Hag if this deal doesn't materialise. For some it's as black and white that the board/ETH are geniuses if he does sign and idiots if he doesn't, which is absurd. Do they want us to pull out now because de Jong hasn't categorically said he's 100% coming to United?

And pursue who exactly? The market is hardly saturated with top class players in his position. I'd rather we continue negotiating even if it's only a 50/50 chance, than to call it off and go after someone of much lesser quality.

It's not the transfer fee they want increasing. It's the wages being paid.

What reason would United have to stay if what was being said was real? Why would we keep our offer in? If he genuinely didn't want to join, we'd pack up and feck off, no doubt about it.

I think Romero's 'feeling' is based on:
  • Redknapp claiming he's done for Chelsea
  • Paul Hirst saying Chelsea
  • Joan Laporta telling him to say Chelsea so United pay deferred wages

The people running the club have seen how bad McFred were for the last 3 years. Trusting whatever ETH says(who isn't above criticism) is what makes them amateurs IMO
Its part of murtough's job to identify deficiencies in the squad and have them addressed. It seems he is putting everything on the manager.

This thread reminds me of the Greizmann thread.

No matter what was said people were sure that he would join us.

He might have rejected us a while ago and maybe it never came out in the news? Not sure if that's probable because the English media would have been covering that. Not sure what to believe anymore.

I’m surprised people don’t grasp that it suits De Jongs camp to have interest from other clubs, genuine or otherwise.

It allows them to squeeze more money from United.

If United have an absolute free hit at the player then they can be firm and pressure De Jong in accepting what they put on the table knowing he has no one else offering him anything.

It suits both Barca, who want the deal done quickly, and De Jong, to have strong interest in him from Chelsea irrespective of where he really wants to go.

How are Chelsea going to be able to afford him plus another Central defender after spending €180 odd million so far and having sold no one just a few off the wage bill on loans. If they get him and Forfana that’s a good €300 million plus, so how does that fit in with financial fair play?

I do love how these guys know all this, when de Jong has been totally silent. He's said nothing to anyone, yet these reporters seem to have the inside knowledge.

Have we developed mind reading technology or something?
He's said nothing to anyone? Based on what? He's probably talked to a hell of a lot of people. Because we aren't privy to it is a different matter

And I'm not sure how reliable or what contacts these journos have, but yes, reporters often do have inside knowledge. Otherwise how do you know we're interested? How do you know we've even bid? United haven't confirmed it. De Jong hasn't confirmed it, and neither have Barca.

I'm starting to see how conspiracy theorist get so entrenched in their opinion it becomes cold hard fact to them and they lose all sight of reality.

You guys are going to look back on these daily (hourly? Minute by minute?) meltdowns and laugh to yours, eves when Frenkie is holding up a United shirt next week. Especially when he says something like “United were the only club who were ever in for me.” Because for the 100th time, it makes no sense for us to be in for him this summer.

Because despite many people posting like they're in FDJ's WhatsApp group, none of us really know what is happening.
I hope you're right and all of this is just guesswork by journos depserate for clicks. But if he doesn't end up here, serious questions need to be asked about the way we've wasted the past couple of months.

But we've apparently not even discussed wages yet and supposedly will give him a very good salary. I don't think our salary offer is an issue at all, at least it's not been mentioned by anybody.

Join us, you know you want to :smirk:
I want the deal to happen as it’s obvious Ten Hag wants to build around him and very much admires the player. That said though if he genuinely doesn’t want to come to the club I’m not arsed. It’s his loss. We will regroup and think again.

This deal doesn’t make or break the club. This season is very much about getting more from what we have, developing a clear play style and philosophy and adding the right players.

Bringing in players that don’t want to be here and don’t want to buy in to the longer term plan doesn’t interest me.

Have they even made any sales yet? Plus, from what I've seen, no one is going for big money
Nope we don't have any sellable assets that not important to team structure. Will be Werner, kepa,Alonso and ziyech who wanted to move. But no suitors are there except Alonso who wanted by Barca but they have no money. Italian clubs asking for loan for few. That's it.

But we are not having problem to spend some 300 mn but still within ffp. Not a problem for us.

United have been able to speak to De Jongs camp for a while now. Since Barca agreed on a fee.

No one said the salary isn’t an issue but if there’s still a shortfall of money lingering it’s in Barcas and De Jongs interest to have more teams at the table and push for what they can.

There is no such thing as FFP.

Creative accountants is all that is required - just as City.

In this window perhaps but you will have to cut back your spending massively from here on in. Boehly is gambling somewhat.

You simply don’t have the revenue to sustain this level of spending currently.
