This is done. The question is who we sign as his partner. Rabiot obviously has his risk, but he comes cheap.

SMS makes sense but it seems no real concrete links so far.
I genuinely think SMS is instead of FDJ. Rabiot will be signed either way because he compliments both (whether people think he's any good or not is a different matter).

I'm still trying to get my head around the craziness that is turning what was a gesture from De Jong to try and help the club's finances (agreeing to defer wages) into a criminal act that infers it was done to harm the club. That's cold-war era levels of propoganda and skullduggery that is.

I think it was worth to wait for the player of FDJ qualities. There was a real chance that if Barca can not sort their shit he will leave. Also it is not that he does not want to play for United. He just prefers to stay at Barca. And prefers Chelsea over us. Are you really surprised? You can't expect every player to be United fan. When Chelsea get involved we moved on. It seems from the tweets that it was too late but who knows? I want to believe that we have a backup plan.

I think Chelsea are waiting until the end of August to sign him because our humiliating pursuit is just too hilarious to put an end to.

I don’t know how often I have pointed this out on here: ETH and de Jong know each other very well and it’s not plausible to believe they’re not in direct contact with each other.

Does anyone actually think this will still happen? Seems to have gone very quiet and we now seem to be moving onto other targets.
I think he'll leave, yes. Barca desperately want him gone, because they need the money. All public utterances to the contrary are pure drivel. The process of forcing him out has begun and he can expect many more threats of legal action and games on the bench / at CB until he leaves.

The question is, when he does leave, where does he go? Chelsea appear to have the upper hand there (UCL football and London reportedly favoured by De Jong over Europa League football and Manchester) and I think they'll get him eventually.

This is crazy, after applying so much pressure on him to leave or take a paycut, they decided to keep him? Have they not thought of actually paying off the guy? Anyway, maybe we should try Bernarndo Silva?
Wow.

I’m a simple man who has never been involved in multi million pound transfers but surely it isn’t more complicated than this...
If you're simplifying it like that, I'd say it's more:

United: Is FDJ for sale?
Agent: Actually there are a load of problems at Barca and we are considering our options so yes, possibly.
United: Oh? Well in the event he does leave, we just signed up EtH and he wants to build the team around Frenkie.
Agent: Sounds interesting... hold on... * covers the reciever with his hand and shouts at someone in Dutch * ... * muffled response from another room * ... Frenkie says that sounds like a great idea. If he has to leave Barca he would love to come to United. For the right price of course.
United: Of course. Rest assured we value Frenkie very highly. We can talk numbers soon but I don't think there will be a problem. Tell us more about these problems at Barca...
Agent: Well, you are not going to believe this shit...

The next day...

United: Oh, err, hola, is that Barca?
Barca: Maybe... who is this?
United: It's United. We, err, we just wondered if you had any good players for sale? Someone like, ohhhhh I dunno * snigger * FDJ maybe?
Barca: Okay, thank god... we didnt recognise the number and thought you might be someone else. FDJ you say? We like Frenkie but maybe at the right price.
United: Ok, that makes sense.

Negotiate. Price agreed.

Barca: You want Depay too?
United: No, thanks.
Barca: How about Braithwaite? We give you great deal on Braithwaite if you take him too.
United: No.
Barca: 49% stake in Barcelona's Wedding and Bar Mitzvah Holdings for the next 40 years?
United: ...

So if Chelsea end up signing him, what do you believe went wrong?

De Jong and EtH have worked together before but are reportedly not particularly close. I'm sure United will have had encouragement from De Jong and his agent (especially in the early stages of the saga when we were seemingly his only suitors), but Chelsea are simply a more attractive proposition to top players at the moment. They have a more proven manager, a better squad, a UCL trophy last year, Champions League football this season and of course London. United aren't out of it (probably largely because of the EtH connection), but it isn't a major shock that De Jong reportedly prefers Chelsea if/when he leaves.

All speculative, but money makes the World go round. Besides, do you honestly believe that only 2 clubs are interested in signing a world class player like de Jong?

Its not about interest, its about need and means. How many clubs need a first XI player in that position who could afford him and his wages? Not many.

Have Barca called Mikky any unsavoury names yet?

Thinking about it, her sad face was possibly because she knew she was being forced out of a city that she loves.. either that or she just found out she's engaged to a criminal

If we are genuinely going for SMS then the FDJ deal is most certainly dead. We are defo not signing both.

Question for any punters we have here …. What are the bookmakers odds of this deal happening for us? Just curious to know.

The only criminal act was Barca trying to cook the books by 150m to get around FFP. They should be investigated for that alone.

Last night it was

Chelsea 6/5
Stay at Barca 5/2
Move to Utd 7/2
When we were getting the promising reports though and agreed a fee, we were 1/20.

A positive report and a few quid on us and we'd be odds on again all of a sudden

I didn't realise the new look Barcelona were going for is "full retard". Taken a kicking on twitter for having a good time at Barcelona's expense.

Worth saying that this isn't a competitive market and would be swayed heavily by bets in any direction, so I wouldn't deduce bookmakers odds as the actual chance it is going to happen.

If you put a £500 bet on "move to United", we'd probably be close to evens.
