Mitten is shit. He also said just last week we are in pole position to sign FDJ and there is clear indication from the players camp that he would be willing to move. He maybe good at writing books about the history of Man United but when it comes to transfer news he is less than useless.
He didn’t say that. Don’t make things up. He said he was more confident than the week before, but never claimed we were in pole position.

£59m is the rumoured fee.

We have shrunk the wage bill with the departures of Pogba, Cavani, Matic, Mata, Lingard etc. Theres plenty of scope to pay such wages and the fee is about average for a top class player these days.

By way of comparison Lukaku is on more at Chelsea, along with Sterling. Neither of whom are the best in the world in their position unlike Casemiro whom is a multiple league title and European Cup winner.

United can comfortably afford it.
Our wage bill has been inexplicably high. Just cause we got rid of some players doesn’t mean you go and offer new players very high wages in order to get back to those high wage levels. We haven’t competed for the title in 10 years. We shouldn’t be paying the 2nd highest wages for the absolute shit we have on our payroll.

He wouldn’t be for sale if this was still the case. Madrid don’t need the money and don’t sell players they need. He’s either not needed or not for sale.
Its still the case, he's still a world class DM. Madrid have just gotten good at selling their stars right at their last big contract day for big money which helps them rebuild and spend big on guys like Tchouameni, Camavinga, etc.

He didn’t say any of that at all. You’ve just made it up.

Very important point, Real usually doesn't let players who are still in their prime go. If they think about selling, you can bet they are on the decline and Real thinks they have gotten the best out of the player already.
Well duh, he’s on his way out gradually - they’ve just signed two of the best young midfielders in world football for large fees. It’s just whether he leaves now whilst he’s still around his peak or if he stays another year or two whilst they phase him out and Camavinga/Tchouameni more in.

We can afford to pay it though so it’s not an issue and as I point out that’s the going rate for such a player so it’s nothing to be surprised about.

I very much doubt we will have the second highest wage bill during the next financial check with those players, and others, off the wage bill.

What? He's been consistent in saying he's never heard anything other than Frenkie wants to stay at Barca or would prefer Chelsea. He thinks United were in pole position because Barca would force him out but that's it.

Mitten is clearly as connected as anyone when it comes to United. He doesn't do random speculation if there's nothing in it. Just not all signings pan out, as we all well know.

It’s not the going rate for a DM. No one is paying over 300k for a defensive mid. Not one team in the world. Attackers earn over 300k but they can get you goals and attackers always get paid.

anyone terrified that even if we do get him, if he goes out injured we just go back to losing 4-0 to Brentford.

So Kante is on £290k and Koulibaly is on £295k as a 31 year old centre half.

I could find more but I can’t be bothered.

As I say it’s the going rate.

Kimmich is on ~ £300,000 per week
Busquets was on more before postponing part of his wages
De Jong is on ~ £400,000 per week
Kanté is on ~ £290,000

You can say this for all potential signings though, this is why we need squad investments, not just first team improvements.
Yeah, sorry, that is what I mean, potentially spending our whole budget on a couple more players is not going to fix our issues. It seems we would have to pay £50+ million for squad players.

Frenkie de Jong is literally the highest earner at Barca with well over 300k.

This is a terrible idea. 60 million and huge wages on a 30 year old Brazilian that's never played a full season of intense PL football.

I'm not disputing his quality or achievement, but even Varane has shown it's not a trivial adjustment, especially later in a career where there isn't time to just take time bedding in.

Also it would say to me that RM see something that means they're comfortable letting him go. Picking up aging stars from huge clubs is a risky business.

Why are we seemingly incapable of addressing midfield like any other club? Finding someone ready to breakout that's excited to come to Man Utd?

if I'm not mistaken our wage bill pre Ronaldo was actually lower than the likes of Liverpool for example. We should be capable of paying big money for Casemiro when you consider we have let go of a lot of big wage stars and will likely let go of Ronaldo on top.

Casemiro isn't a Rabiot Christmas stocking player, he would be part of a spine for Ten Hag that is absolutely integral for the system. I think Martinez - Casemiro - Eriksen is a fantastic vertical spine, just need the striker but that can wait for now.

Conte is always a pragmatic coach. He can work out with teams with minimum additions. He proved multiple times previously.
He's not really pragmatic as evidenced by his constant moaning and transfer demands. He's just a really great manager with methods that work really well with second/third tier players
He wouldn’t be for sale if this was still the case.
He's not for sale, we're only selling if he wants out. Because we're not stupid, we don't keep unhappy players.

Quoting that figure for De Jong is disingenous, considering why it's that high. More realistic would be to go with the total amount ~100M euros over 6 years, or an annual average of ~£270k a week. We're currently paying Casemiro ~£160k a week

But i don't think he'd move to you now for less than £400k a week honestly...sign De Jong first and that would change, but as it stands, i don't think less than that is enough money

One of the best CDM in the world, makes sense to me. We need to think about winning now, than thinking about what’s gonna happen in the future….

If we had a well functioning midfield, he’s be a great buy. But we don’t. So a one man Casemiro midfield doesn’t really fill me with confidence.

I know United are shit but I would be surprised if he rejects when United are almost doubling his wage and he isn’t a starter for Madrid any more
