However, it also helps when the player hasnt been defrauded by his employers leading to an overly complicated exit scenario. I'm not sure if the player and his agent or Barca misled our people more but we definitely got led up the garden path there. With Varane we all knew he had struggled with injuries. And it was a big name in a position which wasn't our biggest need. But still if fit he's our best CB without a doubt.

I’m sure you’d have had nothing to say had we signed Caicedo for big money when we didn’t pick him up for less than £5m last year…

DM's can play at a similar level well into their 30's. Also, he's arguably the best DM in World football. He will eventually start to fall off, but his positioning etc. will still be as they were, he'll be at least a good player until he's done here.
