Yes, we have to start somewhere. When we were linked with de Jong, many moaned that he isn't good defensively. Now we are linked with CM who is very good defensively, people moan about now having creative player.

It's a team game, we have to sign multiple players to create a team and he is one of them.
That's the Caf in a nutshell. Love their moans and their silver bullet solution.

Personally, I find Bruno's pass attempts more frustrating.

Fred is a far better number 8 than Bruno, in fact with Fred and Casemiro for once I'm fairly confident in our midfield base being solid. Eriksen is a better number 10 than Bruno in terms of ball retention hence why I think he'd be preferred by Ten Hag.
Completely agree with this.

Bruno has been the weakest link in our play for a long time now. So many attacks end with his misplaced pass. Or if he does complete a pass, it’s his usual 5 yard pass back to Maguire having never thought about turning around and trying to move play forwards.

I think this is a fantastic signing and instantly improves us and will allow Fred to show his real contribution and ability.

I have to say I don’t quite like this potential signing. We are in desperate need of midfielders who can hold the ball and keep possession under pressure, and playmake at the same time. He is not. Or am I wrong?
That’s what he was looking for for sure. However he’s seen the team shit the bed in the past two games and probably thinks they need to be a bit more solid. Casemiro brings that in abundance but he is very different to what he’s looked at previously.

I do wonder if he’s considering playing with a 6 and two 8’s which means we probably need to add another along with Casemiro

If he has his medical today can he be involved against Liverpool. What’s the registration time?

Unlikely, will need a visa and that takes several days even for a high profile sports star such as this.

So I missed the news of the night, we're really signing him?

Only gripe with that would be the question why so late in the window but my lord, what a signing. Going from no DM to the best in the world is certainly a good start

So according to reports the initial fee is £51M plus £8.5M add-ons.. total is £59.5M.

It's big money indeed but it's not prohibitive really, he is worth that much and can easily perform for 4-5 years. He is literally the first DM we signed since Carrick left.

Also he won't be on a much bigger wages, he is already one of the top earners at Real Madrid so United made him a good offer with a slight increase and included a significant performance related incentives, as per what's reported in the Athletic.

Overall I'm happy to see a player of Casemiro's calibre join United, and I hope we add more quality players into this squad

Imagine if he manages to get registered before Monday and then twats Robertson in the 1st five minutes of the game.
That would be epic, but even if our executives move their asses quicker than they ever have, Casemiro still needs a work visa which will take some time, no?

Debut against Southampton next weekend then. We might see him in the stands on Monday.

I just hope this is not another very expensive purchase of an older player past it who has a long running contract. In tht sense, I am sceptical

There is no other way of looking at it other than an expensive purchase but at least he isn’t injury prone (knock on wood) or deteriorating rapidly as a player. And sure money helps to bring him here but he is also someone we need.

Of course. And he is great signing. He will transform our midfield. But it would be wise to complete midfield this year and sign him a partner (unless ETH sees Fred or Eriksen as his partners in midfield).
Of course that means that we need to sell McT (or Donny) which, lets be realistic, will never happen this summer.

Casemiro-Fred does not seem to be an ideal Ten Hag midfield though. Lets wait and see.
Think he’ll set us up like city… one holding which will obviously be Casemiro with eriksen and Bruno/VDB either side with license to roam and create further forward.

Don't see why VDB will be preferred to Fred who has been a starter for us for years and not someone deemed bad enough to be loaned to Everton.

Would assume and hope we'll line up with Casemiro (McT), Fred (VDB) and Eriksen (Bruno) in midfield. Bruno also playing either as a 10 in a diamond or on the wings. Once (not if ) FDJ comes in, he'll replace Fred

Imagine Casemiro, Varane and Ronaldo who all have multiple champions league titles playing under Maguire  Hope ten Hag changes the captain of the club.

FDJ is going to Chelsea, if he even leaves Barca, at all. We are not getting him any time soon, if ever.

I really like EtH and want him to be successful, but honestly keeping Maguire as a captain was a major feck-up. Don't care if he was pressured by somebody to do it or why he did it - it was a huge mistake and a sign of the troubles to come.

Of course we need both, but I don't think Casemiro was a target for us until De Jong became dead in the water.
It does feel a little haphazard. But maybe we are fluking our way to a very sensible transfer. Because of where we are as a football club, I don’t think we can get a better midfielder than Casemiro. If he was indeed available, he should have been in our squad weeks ago.
