I'd say younger version of Ronaldo is very exciting to watch, so many tricks, with electrifying footwork and speed etc while the older version of him is more comparable to Djokovic in tennis, and mostly about mentality and consistence to reach such extraordinary numbers and achievements.
Younger version of Ronaldo left his brain in the locker room. And many times his tricks dodnt even come off. Trust me, if he hadn't changed, he would have gone the Quaresma way.

He wouldn't have changed if not for his injury, and if not for that change he probably wouldn't be a goal machine that he turned into

Why would the club keep a player who's a) the highest paid, and b) they don't plan to use? Doesn't that sound ridiculous?
If they don't play to play him -- sell him, loan him, whatever. It's not a difficult concept.
Ask Joel Glazer what does CR7 bring to the club more than anything else

You guys want him to play today against Southampton? If he plays, do you think that counts against him leaving?
Not sure how many options we have, with martial injured. Rashford up top and Elanga wide seems the only other option. Bruno at false 9 also doesn’t excite me. Probably same starting team versus Pool, except for Casemiro stepping in for McT.

His time is up. GOAT can't even get a CL club that willing to take him. Once the window is closed he will shut his mouth with tail between his legs to sit on our bench. And rightly so. Just hope that he will not create negative influence in the dressing room.

Missed entire preseason because of family issues, really? The most unprofessional player ever.

Yes for the last couple of minutes and maybe we can give him the send off that we should have given in 2009.

Well I get that his younger teenage version is more of trick pony without end products. But the one with tricks and end products (at around 22-28 peak performance level) is very exciting to watch.

I know people here hate him for his wish to leave and being too big of a circus which may cause issue to our new manager/new setup, and this thread is all about bashing Ronaldo. But he has actually lost his baby son just few months ago, most people don't recover from that easily. Maybe you could, I definitely couldn't.

This is one of the stupidest things I've read here in ages. Kudos.

I totally understand that but there are hundreds of millions people in the world who lost their loved ones. Not many people have the privilege to take a long break and many still continue to work to put food on the table.

During his 2/3 months absent from the team for personal reasons there was also "coincidentally" leaks from his team that he would like to leave for CL football. Never once he came out to clear the air. Or came out to make his intention clear one way or another.

He was a machine at Madrid, rarely exciting at all outside scoring goals (the spectacular ones were long rangers and free kicks) and counter attacks. I think we have had this argument before. Let's leave it here.

You know..as an outsider (not a fan of United), it would be very interesting if he sits on the bench and United loses/draws, the huge over-reaction on why he is on the bench by people like goldbridge, Rio and certain members here will be fun to watch. Not so fun if you are a through and through United fan though
Who really cares what any of them say, though? Each of those would sit there quietly when the the team performs well with him on the bench.

United fans are more interested in seeing the team win, and it seems that the best chance to do that is with Ronaldo on the bench.

Yup. It's subjective, but I know very few people who think that the post-2012 Ronaldo was among the most exciting players on the planet.

Feel it's a bit to early to say that. We've had one good game so far this season without him.

We went from 2nd to the worst points total in the premier league era when we had to build the attack around him, so it wasn't based on one match.

But we'll see how the season will play out. I think Ten Hag knew what he was doing when he decided Ronaldo shouldn't start big matches like the one against Liverpool.

Rashford should start up top.

I'm curious to see if he can improve under Ten Hag or whether ETH and fans are going to get a rude awakening about his qualities.

I agree to some extent but the whole team had a mare last season especially Maguire. We've seen De gea feck up this season. I agree though that Ronaldo doesn't fit how we want to play. Perhaps Ronaldo made us worse, but you could say the same of Sancho and Varane.

Normally speaking you could have a point, and I understand the timing of all that doesn't look very good, but given his situation, I wouldn't say he is the most unprofessional player ever, or something along that line.

That’s not it, my man. Whether or not that’s the reason Ronaldo did miss pre-season (I personally lean towards it not being) the idea that those lucky enough to take the requisite time to grieve a child shouldnt be entitled to because less privileged people often can’t, is a pretty shitty take. Everyone should be able to - making sure no one can is a step in the wrong, not right direction. Even if for no other reason than it can very easily be used the other way “Well Ronaldo didn’t, and he’s super successful, so you shouldn’t either”

Most of his tricks came off, unlike Quaresma. Watch his debut against Bolton, and the friendly against us for Sporting. Even later on most of his tricks worked (except against Ashley Cole). He was levels above Quaresma even at his rawest.

The cycle of a footballer's career. The GOAT becomes a bench player at the club he made his name.

I'd be willing to subsidise a portion of his wages if it means he's gone... Its only for a year and the benefit would outweigh the cost in my opinion.

Definitely a statement today. Martial out, Ronaldo no longer behind fitness wise and yet he's not in the team. Surely unsustainable, this situation.

I expected him to start, the rumours that Ten Hag had enough of him are likely true.

i'd almost prefer a mutual termination of contract and we just go our separate ways...obviously not going to happen, but he's a waste of a bench space. We also need to get a striker if we hopefully give up on antony and have some money to splash.

No. Only sometimes. And they looked rehearsed, very mechanical as opposed to how natural they looked with Ronaldinho and now with Neymar.
