Well it will be different depending on whether he moves. If he stays it will be that he never wanted to leave. If he leaves he will say we tried to keep him and made it hard for him to leave.

I didn’t think there was any chance of him doing so as he has always said he wants to carry on for as long as possible but the lack of interest from Europe’s elite will have been a real dent to his ego and I’m not sure he would want to see out his career dropping down a level in Europe unless he went to Sporting. Even MLS may be out of the question for him.

I would guess that if he stays he'll argue that the stories about him wanting to leave were a media invention. Hoping that people ignore the fact that they obviously aren't and that he deliberately held off on dispelling those stories until after the transfer window closed.
