Well it is finally almost here, yes us playing in the WSL once again!!

It seems ages since we last did so!

This time at home to Brighton, it will not be an easy game, but if is definitely one that we are capable of winning, and going even if only for a short while 9 points clear of Man City!

Russo is out sadly, so I expect Thomas to be her replacement up front, as I don't think Williams is ready to make her debut for us just yet.

Other than that, I think it will be a similar side to the ones that beat Reading and West Ham so convincingly.

Vital to keep up this winning run to put pressure on Arsenal to do likewise.

Any idea how long Russo is out for?

Nothing more than she is missing this weekends game, hopefully it isn't something to overly be concerned about, as that is the one area where we don't have too much depth, especially with Williams also being out still...

Reading was convincing, West Ham not so much, we were lucky that the goal the Hammers scored was offside but it was hardly a convincing victory

How were we lucky that an offside goal was given as offside, please explain that to me?

It was a good win v West Ham, 2-0 away from home against a side that we only drew with last season at their place, so why the negativity about that game?

So what are people expecting today, especially with sadly no Russo up top?
Who will come in & replace her, no Williams (will she ever be fit??!) also doesn't help matters...

Presumably Thomas will be the striker up top....

Looks like Ladd is somehow, both starting and on the bench...

And now it has been changed....

With Villa getting beat, and Arsenal not playing until later, it is vital that we win today, as it sure would be nice to be top outright, for however a short period of time it might turn out to be!

Welcome to Manchester reception committee
Toone looking the best we've seen her this season. Not just the goals, her touch and her all round play have been great to see.

Hopefully Galton's goal will help Leah get back to her best as well.

Nice all round performance from us. Brighton looking dangerous when they do attack but overall a good half that.

Very impressive so far, need to go on and get loads of goals second half.
Brighton look ok going forward, but not so good defensively.

Early to say, however Skinner doing okay and no visible loss after Jackie left makes it sweeter.

Could be another clean sheet today.

Top of the league and playing wonderfully well, so far so good I would say!

Yes the contracts are a huge issue away from the pitch, something that Polly needs to sort out (Turner, Ona, & Russo especially)...

Two 4-0 wins out of three games isn't too bad!

Top of the table I will take that!

A really good team performance today, we created a lot of chances, yes it would have been nice tk have taken a few more, but really that is just being picky, as three wins out of three is pretty darn good going!

Next up, Leicester away next Sunday, a chance to make it 4 wins in a row!

Today has been a very enjoyable day indeed!

Can see her being secondary to Russo if we keep hold of her, but not a bad choice of options to choose from to build a team around
i think there’s more chance of Russo leaving the Ella. Ella seems like she’s going to be united through and through. She’s the player I’d least like to sell.

I meant if Russo doesn’t go! Russo I think is a marketers dream and a hell of a footballer to go with it. Keeping hold of both her and Battle should be the clubs primary focus right now, although both may wait for if we get CL football.

Toone is also superb, but as you say, I reckon will be a lot easier to keep around.

Yeah that’s a fair point. Pay Russo, battle and toone what they want. Keep them happy at all costs. I reckon this team is very good and can put a challenge in but we’re still a couple top notch signings off being truely competitive. 1 or 2 world class players and we look very good.

What do you mean by being "truly competitive"??
We already are surely??
We are top, the team who has scored the most goals, and jointly conceded the fewest, what more could or can we do to be "truly competitive" in your mind, 3 wins from 3 is surely all that we can ask for??

We already have top notch/World class players all over the pitch, Zelem as captain is one, Earps, Tooney, Russo, Turner, Ona, Ladd, Galton, and Garcia, would all fall into that category as well.
Which positions do you think we need to improve upon??

Tooney has a contract until 2025 I think it is, and Russo has one until 2023, so yeah, it will be a heck of a lot easier to keep hold of the one who has the longer contract.....

Ona, Turner, & Russo all players who have their contracts running out at the end of this season, should be the priority in getting them all to sign new deals.

I'm not sure the midfield is as good as what the top sides can offer and they maybe have a bit more quality all over although United definitely have more depth than they have in previous years. In fairness we have had a very handy start in playing 3 of the weaker sides in the league, we took 7 points from the corresponding fixtures last year but then weren't able to match the top 3 sides in the matches against them so that will be when they can prove if they're truly competitive.

City's drop off does open up a chance to make the top 3 but right now we're still probably a bit off Chelsea and Arsenal although the team does have the chance to prove themselves at that level this year, they just haven't yet but will get a chance to when they play them back-to-back.

The midfield of Ladd/Zelem is fantastic, Zelem is the best creative central midfielder in the league, and Ladd is the best actual DM in the league, so not sure where geese doubts creep in from about either of them.
Last season Zelem was only behind Mead in terms of chances created, ahead of Hemp, Reiten, Weir, everyone not named Mead, so I fail to see why there are doubts about her.
With Le Tiss and Millie Turner at the back we have a rock solid partnership there, and we have Ona as the best right back on the planet.

Our midfield is better than what City can offer for a start, hence their woefully inept start to the season.
It is right up there with Chelsea and Arsenal's without a shadow of a doubt.

You say that we have had an easy start to the season, but Reading pushed Arsenal all the way last night, and were unlucky to not come away with a draw, yet we pumped them 4-0.
Chelsea got beat by a team that was not too long ago a Championship side in Liverpool, and Villa beat City, and this is a Villa side that lost to a West Ham side that we beat with some degree of ease, so I think that our start deserves a bit more respect than it seems to be sadly getting.

Right now, we should be in amongst the title favourites, we have the talent, the manager, and we have the depth.
No Russo, no problem.
No reason to think that things are bad, when this is the best group that we have ever had in our whole history in the women's set up.

As for playing Arsenal/Chelsea/City, we have previously beaten two of them, and drawn with the other one, so why not beat them all this time round, I think it is very much possible, especially beating City twice, they look absolutely woeful this season, Chelsea look dodgy at the back, and they are not quite clicking up front, and Arsenal looked very open against Reafing.

So I say bring them all on, they have to worry far more about us, and what we can do to them, then vice-versa.

Yeah should be targeting minimum 3rd place, however if we can keep winning then see where we are at halfway.

I like your optimism, but I do have some doubts about the manager, the squad and the club's commitment to the women's team.

Zelem is a creative midfielder, but a lot of that creativity comes when she's taking setpieces not in open play. When the midfield gets up against a tough opposition, she can look error prone and slow, with or without the ball. Ladd feels like a key player in making our team look robust but has been in and out of the team - whether due to fitness concerns or manager choices.

I like the defensive lineup, but I'm still wondering when we'll see more of Tounkara.

I'm also conscious that our forward line still have a way to go to reach the kind of ruthless finishing that Chelsea and Arsenal's best can offer. I'm hopeful though, Toone and Russo are young and only going to get better. Galton, Garcia, Leon all look good for some goals. We've also got goals from all over the pitch, which is a good thing and could be our real weapon this year.

In terms of our rivals - it's good that they don't look invincible this season. I'll reserve my judgment on them until I've seen them play us though. Some of last season's matches against them were painful - though in terms of damage done to our top 3 run, the draws against weaker opponents hurt us most. I'm hoping our squad strengthening measures will help there.

See this is what I don't understand, (and this isn't meant at all on a personal level to you in any way, so please don't take it as such, it is more meant in general terms), what does it matter how a person creates something?
Why is cheating something in open play seen as better than creating something via a set-piece?
Surely a chance is a chance, no matter how it is created?
Was Kelly's winner at the Euro's a "lesser" chance or goal because it came from a set-piece??

So with regards to us, why does it matter if Katie creates a fair few choices from set-pieces?
Surely that is just as good as someone creating chances from open play?
I don't personally understand why being good at set-pieces is viewed negatively....???

For me Zelem is a World class creative player, up there with the very best on the planet, it shouldn't matter if a chance is created in open play or via a set-piece, if a goal is scored, then I will celebrate it, no matter how it was created (think back to Ole in 99, did I care that Becks crossed it in, heck no!).

As for the clubs commitment to the women's side, I fully agree with you there, any success, is I think in spite of the club, not because of it.

And thr other points, what is with the rush to see Tounkara play?? We have a very good Cb partnership as it is developing, between Le Tiss and Millie, why look or seek to change that??
Tounkara and Mannion when she comes back, will have to just settle for being rotation or second choice options.

As for ruthless finishing of our rivals, where was this on display for Chelsea v Liverpool, City v Villa, or Arsenal v Reading (Zelem scored a pen v Reading, which is more than Mead can say!)??
We are far mote ruthless this season then our rivals have been, hence why we have the best GD in the whole league, and sit top of the table.

Not sure what last season has to do with this season, as last season is irrelevant, as we have had a huge overhaul of players, both in and out since then, so trying to look so what happened in last season's games/results is a pretty pointless exercise to do.
Last season we didn't have the chance to call upon Leon, Parris, Garcia, and Le Tiss for example.

So I am looking forward to facing the teams below us in the table (which is everyone!), as it is up to them to try to a) stop us from scoring, and then b) finding a way past the best CB partnership in the league, and then c) trying to get past the best goalkeeper in the league Mary Earps....

So our opponents have far more issues to deal with, then we do with them.
It is them that should be far more worried about us, then vice-versa.
That isn't to say that we should get complacent, heck no, but it is to say, that there are a lot of positives about this squad, and that we should look to go into games, not fearing who we are playing, but knowing that we are strong and good enough to win any game, against any opponent.
That isn't to suggest that we will win every game, we won't, that simply isn't possible, but that shouldn't mean we can't have confidence before games of doing very well.

I think, this season, for a real good shot at top 3, it’s most important to keep the teamwork and team spirit high. Skinner seems to be good at that.

However, if we’re gonna push up an extra level, to continuously putting up such numbers, and being more resilient against the best teams, I think we really need the special players we have now, plus a few more.

In which areas/positions do you think that we need more "special players"??

We have the best goalkeeper, best CB's, best DM, most creative CM, best young forward pair, (Tooney/Russo), best wide player (Galton, who if she wanted to play for England, would easily be ahead of Hemp or Kelly in the pecking order, as she is vastly superior to both of them), and best RB (Ona), soo that is quite a lot of special players right there.
