The Saudis did a deal with Trump / GOP and cut production to force the price increase. Guarantee they will open the flood gates if the GOP get back in.

In California, there is one ballot proposition that is opposed by every political party - the Democrats, Republicans and even the Libertarians and Peace and Freedom party.
Prop. 27: Online and Mobile Sports Betting in California
A YES vote on this measure means: Licensed tribes or gambling companies could offer online sports betting over the Internet and mobile devices to people 21 years of age and older on non-tribal lands in California. Those offering online sports betting would be required to pay the state a share of sports bets made. A new state unit would be created to regulate online sports betting. New ways to reduce illegal online sports betting would be available.
A NO vote on this measure means: Sports betting would continue to be illegal in California. No changes would be made to the way state gambling laws are enforced.
Really surprised even the Libertarians and Peace and Freedom also oppose this. I'm going to vote yes on this myself.

Shocked that the libertarians would not support this. I would vote yes as well if I were in CA.
When they lose the House (almost certain to happen) that means an end to any chance of passing a single bill for 2 years. Anything the GOP passes in the house will be toxic and will not make it through the Senate, even if the GOP retakes it (50/50 chance), or will be vetoed if the GOP nukes the filibuster.
If the Dems had any backbone (
) they would ram everything possible during the lame duck session. Marriage protections, contraceptive protection, abortion protections, anything they can bribe/threaten Manchin/Sinema to do. They won't do this because they are cowards, but they should.This is interesting to me. I was tangentially involved with the design of new very large office building for the state of CA in Sacramento and one of the departments was slated to deal with online betting. A good sized department too. I think it's still not finished construction.

Depends on McCarthy I think. I would bet at least 30+% of GOP house members will be pro - Ukraine which is more than enough to pass it if he allows a vote to happen.
I think they will, because it would cause an unnecessary division within the House GOP at a time when McCarthy badly needs them to fall in line behind him. As it stands, he is going to have to deal with MAGA extremists in the House wanting power over certain committees, which will be his first fight once speaker.

It was such obvious and open interference I thought Biden would respond with something aggressive on Yemen or human rights but ... nothing. And even before that MBS has been humiliating Biden and the state dept. Which of the two is the client state?!?
As we have seen during the Trump years though, the sight of markets going upward is not exactly the best indicator of how healthy one's finances are.
On both sides of the border, I see people (mostly on the right side of the political spectrum) complaining about this or that about the inflation without considering the reality in other countries. If people want that inflation gone ASAP, would they be ready to accept 1) the government to very tightly control prices, 2) the population to be still ageing fast and 3) negative interests rates are maintained - all at the same time? I'm sure they would not like any of those in the context that they love free economy, but that is the reality that explains why Japan has only maintained a 3% inflation rate.
Also it could be worse like in Turkey or in some countries in Europe. One thing I wish more North Americans to understand is that they cannot always expect the road to not be bumpy.

The real key is in the turnout. If minorities and the youth come out in numbers in those key battleground states, Democrats have a really good chance with the Senate.

Depends on your gender/race/sexual orientation/religion/economic class I suppose. Us white straight Christians men are going to be set up sweet no matter what, which is depressing as feck. If we lose the House (almost certainty) then say goodby to any legislative protections for any minority classification in the above list and hello to non stop "investigations" and impeachment trials. If we lose the Senate as well (50/50), and the GOP nukes the filibuster, say goodbye to everything that Biden can't veto. Chaos.
We'll hold the Senate, Rs will have about 15 seat majority in the House. Not as apocalyptic as some believe.
Am I right in saying that the only way to get a bill past a presidential veto would be a 2/3rd's majority in both congress and the senate? So nothing too extreme could override the veto I would think as it would need to be bipartisan?
No more or less than today. That could of course change of Trump wins in 2 years.
Virginia 2nd., 7th., & 10th. results will tell us a bunch about how big the win will be for Rs in the House, turnout numbers will help understand how the Senate will fare.
As someone in Maryland but in the same DC broadcast area, we were inundated with ads over the last 2 months with the 7th and 10th CD's and they were horrific. I am so glad this election is over just to not be bombarded with that nonsense. The ones against Spanberger (D) were particularly annoying.
I don’t have cable / watch local television, but it was jarring when I got on my favorite stream which showed NFL broadcasts stolen from around the country & saw just how many entireties of commercial blocks were all campaign ads. Unreal.
