I thought that he said the coach but maybe I imagined it. And yes he clearly didn't regret doing it and he thinks that he was actually justified. How do you deal with that as a manager, especially when it's a player that is idolized in the dressing room?
I assume he's 'admired' like a school bully, Homelander or Putin is.

It takes a big personality to stand up to Ronaldo in the football world. You only have to look at how he's clapped back at Rooney who dares say a bad word about him.

I think the squad will personally feel a sigh of relief if he's really gone.

he's clearly not wanted anymore
Of course he is not wanted now after the interview. The issue is that from what he told us, he has been disruptive under Rangnick and we know that he was disruptive under ETH.

In fact if we go back to October-November 2021, it was reported that the dressing room was divided between Ronaldo's camp and the rest. I believe that most of us took it with a grain of salt but in hindsight, it was probably true.

I think that the admiration is genuine. We are talking about one of the greatest player of all time, he has won nearly every major trophies and individual awards.

I can't imagine many top clubs desperate to sign a 37 year old in horrendous form who has come out and basically announced he demands to start every single game and if he doesn't he'll go on TV and slag you off.
It wasn’t even on tv properly.

In our squad he may have that influence but I don't think people like Rooney, Neville and co really give a shit. They probably go soft on him because they were team mates and he often still sounds like a child. Either could go in hard if they wanted. He's not really an intimidating personality at all. Just a delusional one.

There is surely grounds to ripping up his contract and being done with him. I wouldn't even worry about him joining a rival team, such is the level of his regression.
I would genuinely want him to go to Chelsea! He would pretty much guarantee that they don't make the top four!

Lets be honest, Ronaldo is not going to go down easily.

No chance he accepts a contract termination without being paid his contract out. He will want his money, from the interview, you could tell he loves his money.

Its up to United to make sure he does not get paid, if he wants to be paid, keep him and do not let him at Carrington. Make him train alone for 6 months and dont let him just go on holiday either.

I want to see him suffer if he does not accept a contract termination.

He's an absolute maggot. A disgraced newspaper editor who should never be confused with a journalist.

I see Keown is already backing him, suggesting this is all Manchester United's fault for not believing his kid was sick, despite the fact they let him take a month off and only ever defended him in public.

You watch, they'll be coming for Manchester United soon.

from the outside, until you get to meet him that is. All people ever talk about is how driven he is.

From a legal perspective, what are the actual grounds for sacking him?
None of us actually know what is included in the contracts, so no one can say what the grounds are.

However; coming out against the employer, the manager cannot be good, this was also on video so, evidence is clear.

He also hinted that he wasn't motivated to play for the club, so maybe there is something in that. Him saying don't put me on for 3 minutes, there will be no clause that says you cannot use him like that.

So I think there will be more than 1 breach of his contract.

It's all beyond ridiculous at this point. I hope he's sacked before our season resumes so focus returns to what matters; the manager and players who are fighting to be successful this season.

Everyone who has their nose up that greasy scumbags arse can then feck off to the fan forum of whichever club are daft enough to take him next.

Hopefully it happens just before Portugal play.
Nah, we shouldn't do anything like that. We have no quarrel with Portugal, irrespective of Ronaldo's shit timing.

Let him appeal it in the court of law then if he thinks he’s got a case.

it would be perfect if we sued him and bought a replacement striker in with it
It would be better if we used the money to build the most high tech wing in Carrington. With a plaque stating "Kindly financed by Cristiano Ronaldo".

All top-flight players sign a Premier League employment contract with their clubs.

Under that agreement, they are obliged to “comply with and act in accordance with all lawful instructions of any authorised official of the club” and are not allowed to “write or say anything which is likely to bring the club… into disrepute… or cause damage to the club”.

United would have to establish the extent to which Ronaldo is in breach of his contract through his comments to determine what outcomes are possible.
From The Athletic's article.

Geez, he really did take him to the cleaners, and that was just about the interviewing style by drawing parallels to Piers' castigation of Oprah's interview with Markle.

Piers gets all tied up in knots in defending why he didn't challenge anything - "Ronaldo was responding to what was in the press to set the record straight", well so was Meghan Markle!

So pleased I pointedly refused to watch the interview myself, but I must credit Piers, he played a blinder by releasing the absolute highlights of the convo before the actual thing, which appears to have little else of substance.

Yes I can hear you Clem Fandango!
On the plus side Ronaldo has more money than Adrian Mutu so he will have to pay up!

I do think if we sue him and will be a strategic decision, possibly to pre-empt him taking us to CAS for the £16m.

slagging off Rooney and didn't he recently snub Benzema after his Ballon d'Or, for a man who talks about respect, he wouldn't be where he is, if his wasn't for the graft of both those men, who put in the hardwork that he benefitted from. Rooney showed a bit of class in his response, you never thought you'd see the day when Rooney would be coming out of an argument with Ronaldo looking the bigger man.

Making disparaging remarks about his employer and/or his immediate superiors in public.

I'm no expert, but I imagine that if his contract includes some kind of clause about the above (I'd be surprised if it doesn't), and the statements he made in the interview actually do constitute disparagement, he's pretty much fecked.

I doubt the club is out there talking about legal issues.
Of course he won't play for us again. I'm just hoping we can get out of not having to pay him off or paying him very little. Just want it to end, and hopefully without us having to sue.

Why not sue? Feck him. We've paid him enough for feck all return.
