I'm finding it a bit strange that there seems to be a bit of a "Well if the English can't handle the fact that they can't have alcohol that's their problem" as if the English are the only ones who have a beer at the game.

Me and my friends regularly attend football games after having some drinks and absolutely none of us are English.

If we bought tickets to any event that we felt that we would have "easy" access to alcohol and then discovered that the organisers had changed the "ease" of obtaining alcohol we would feel like we were "screwed".

Seems to be (to some posters) that pointing out one nations "unhealthy" attitudes/practices is disrespectful (or Xenophobic) while highlighting another's is perfectly fine.

i think qatar has made a rod for its own back. without booze the fans will be forced to sit and talk about their feelings. this will awaken something in a fair few of them, turning a lot of the fan villages into gay orgies.
Everything does get really gay when the alcohol has run out.

If the rich dudes can drink can they also have gay orgies? Those V.I.P. boxes must be wild!

And where are you from that everyone is so pious? Some very odd comments from people about the English/the west at the moment.
Im Norwegian. We dont sell alcohol at games here. Going to a match in England vs Norway can't be compared, but at least there isn't drunk people and shitty comments every 5 minutes. Taking your kid to a game in England isn't something I always recommend. There's a lot of alcohol and drunk people there. You know yourself if you have gone to a marches in England that people yell all kind of stuff during a game and most of it is because of alcohol. It ain't a family event imo

No alcohol in stadiums is fine. Its a family event during day for some. I bet the English cant handle that very well, but thats on the english. I enjoy going to stadiums without drunk people having tantrums
Not English but would rather go to football surrounded by 40,000 drunk Englishmen than 40,000 sanctimonious judgemental, finger-wagging wankers like you.

Climb back up your own arse there and continue inhaling.

No need for that, is it? You cant handle a different view than yours? I dont understand why grown ups need alcohol at 4 in the day at a football stadium surrounded by families. Its weird

I've noticed this as well. As someone outside of all of this (Not from Europe/US/Middle East, not muslim and not someone who gets a stiffy from seeking "hypocrisy" in everything) it's been quite telling that any criticism of Qatar is called this phobia or that phobia while posts like "Those damn english drunks can't watch a match without alcohol! They create a really hostile environment to families" are thrown out so casually.

Insulting another member

I say you need to wake up with your prejudice and xenophobic comments generalising against entire nations.

Not a good look. Shameful.

We know what you are. Your mask slipped.

Seems to be happening quite often with this World Cup.
That's a silly take, we're discussing alcohol at sport events. I'm amazed that so many are pro alcohol at football matces. I know it's cultural, but jesus. Some of you simply can't handle the fact that some doesn't like alcohol were children are present

What’s silly is the content of your posts. That’s why you have been called out by several different posters.

Now you’re trying to pretend the only point you were making was you don’t like alcohol at football matches.

No one has an issue with this view. It’s the fact you didn’t just make this point you went on to make sweeping, negative generalisations against all English people. As if no other country enjoys drinking alcohol at football matches.

Your posts are awful and your xenophobic views quite offensive.

I would be mightily annoyed if I had spent all that money to be told I can’t have some beers at the match

But it is untrue.
To be fair most of those teams aren’t getting into major tournaments. I don’t think it’s irrational to say fans from our country are notoriously poorly behaved at football tournaments which is most often fuelled by drunken idiots. That’s a whole separate discussion.

We do have a problem with alcohol and violence but to say we are the worst is just not true. I don't have a problem with alcohol not being sold at grounds I generally don't drink when I go to a match anyway.

I don’t know if there are any stats from it but if I was to hazard a guess I would say our fans have been the worst behaved across the last 30 years or so of tournaments. It feels like we have an issue virtually every tournament. Even when it’s hosted here!

I think ours are highlighted more here because the press report on their own nation.

BUENOS AIRES:
One person died Thursday following violent clashes that started outside a soccer match on the outskirts of Buenos Aires before spilling into the stadium and onto the pitch, authorities said.
Four River Plate players were taken to hospital on Thursday following the incident and Argentina’s security chief slammed Boca for failing to protect their rivals during the last-16 second leg superclasico.
I'll repeat we aren't the worst.

That's the tip of the iceberg over here.

We can't even have "away" fans in stadiums.

As I said earlier the association with alcohol and football (and the problems that go along with that) is bigger than "England" or "English Fans".

I totally agree. As I said I have no issue with the connection between alcohol consumption and violent thuggish behaviour. We went years with alcohol being banned in English grounds but people just drank in the pubs before going to the ground and turned up late. I think they need to look at how drunk people are turning up at the grounds. With no drink in sight of the pitch people aren't going to get drunk in the stadium. Most of the problem is prefuelling.
