Was 8 ahead of 2nd who played his wildcard this week, and have banked a couple of extra Argie cleanies, to get some breathing space.

He's 22 behind now, but he'll end up with 3 French defenders to my 1 tomorrow, so really need them to concede.
Plus he has Griezmann to my Giroud which is a real puncher's risk.

Have 1 more mid to bring in, will decide between Ziyech or Rabiot (who he has when seeing the team sheet).
There's a 3rd contender in sight, but 19 points behind with only Tchouameni as a threat to me.

Would be the risk of all mad risks.

The ninja turtle is due some returns after blanking last game.

Anyone about for late calls.

1) Hakimi in from the bench to replace a 2pointer? No rival is starting him, and am thinking it's a big ask for him not to concede. Concede 1 goal and he's limited to 1 point, so I'd lose out.

2) Which mid to transfer in for Saka - Ziyech or France's Tchouameni? Ziyech probably a higher ceiling, but Tchochy blocks a key Point of diffo to 2nd.

3 of us competing for the league have the below tonight all have Hernandez and Mbappe, the points of diffo are

  1. Me - Giroud, 1 Mid tbc
  2. Kounde, Tchouameni
  3. Lloris, Varane, Griezmann (is on a wildcard, but is leaving Rabiot benched, and also leaving Hakimi benched)

Could have done with the Morocco chance in the 94th going in!

2 games left, nursing an 11 point lead over 2nd, 12 point lead over 3rd.

Captaincy is going to be a nightmare, Messi v Mbappe.
Suspect 2nd has that damn power captain chip left too!

Must have players tomorrow? Perisic as captain tomorrow before moving to a choice of Mbappe / Messi?

Still playing but I'll make transfers hour before kick off tomorrow. But yeah will look to captain accross both games. Also split the keepers too.

Yes, that keeper thing is important. I've got both from the final.

Going to have to be a real hedge bets 2 defender/keepers from each team in the final isn't it?
And Messi v Mbappe is very difficult.
As is Alvarez v Giroud.

De Paul needs to go though! Probably to Enzo Martinez who kept giving me kittens popping up close to goal when the rivals had him :D

Would just captain the player for the team you want to win the most, there isn't much between them.

Although I do fancy Giroud against the midget Argie defence.

I'll be going differential and backing Morocco clean sheet. GK and probably two defenders with Hakimi captain. Apart from the France game they've barely conceded chances. Croatia were toothless in their group meeting too. Also some talk Modric will be rested. I just think Morocco want that medal more.

Pro tip is having 7-8 players tomorrow so you'll have enough flops to switch out and can maximise the bench potential on Sunday.

That sounds dangerous tactics.
All it takes is a 1-1 and two obscure players scoring and you've taken up a lot of slots, when everyone else will heavily back the finalists.

Giroud subbed so early in the semi worries me.
As does a rival potentially wheeling out his power captain!

Which are the players that will be heavily backed? The players you want in the final are all listed as forwards of which you can have max 3 anyway. Plus Theo, one of the GKs and one more defender. That's 6. Add two of the crap midfield options like Enzo, Mac Allister, Rabiot etc. and you've got 8 players. For me that's more than enough. If the likes of Griezmann and Dembele were listed as midfielders it would've been a different story but reality is apart from the 3 forward slots there aren't many players in the final with a high ceiling.

I prefer to go heavy in the first game because then you can at least keep the highest scorers and bin off the lowest scorers. You don't have that luxury in the second game. If you only have say 4 players in the first game you'll either be hoping they all flop or else you won't be able to use your entire bench strength.

It's all a percentage gamble.

You could have 4 or 8 tomorrow, and you're gambling some of those 8 justify a score to stay in the team.

I think you're getting blinded by the final. Most players in that match won't be getting fantasy returns. The gamble is underselling yourself in the first game.

If I have 8 tomorrow and only 2 of those get returns, I'll use the 4 subs and have 7 players in the final.
If you have 4 tomorrow and 2 of those get returns, you'll only be able to use 2 subs and have 9 players in the final.

There's quite a big difference there. I've used my entire squad of 15. You've only used 13. I'll have 4 players in MAR-CRO vs your 2 in ARG-FRA. But the 2 extra players you'll have in ARG-FRA will be of crap quality because there aren't really 9 good options in that final. So you've essentially handed me a nice head start by not picking enough players in the first game.

Take your point. I suppose I'm getting blind sided by assuming my 2 rivals will be trying to cover more players in the final, and that I myself need to cover those.

In case some absolute random defender scores 7 for a goal etc.
But you could just as easily have similR from the first game.

Thankfully I should be getting a lift to footy 210 or so instead of a mile trudge to the 215 bus meaning I can spend 15mins or so when the team sheets are out 1.40 ish to work it out.

Will 100% get the Morocco keeper in. Just the debate which keeper from the final to go with. Scout goes Martinez and then 2 defenders from each.

Morocco CS went down the toilet but I've got all 4 scorers/assisters so far. 3 of those probably owned by most active teams so nice to get Dari differential points.

Am sure when the original line-up came out that Lovren was in it because Perisic was left back in a back 4.

I rechecked 2mins before kick off from the game I went to today, and noticed he'd been benched! Annoying as it was a 50-50 with the guy who ended up scoring :D

Not too worry, as 2nd surprisingly didn't even change his team - left Perisic benched (!), and didn't bring anyone in today. Messi captain.
3rd has moved to 2nd, and has the temporary captain Ziyech with 8 and Perisic 5 too.

Looks like it might be best to go Messi as captain and make the assumption both rivals do the same.

3 transfers to cover any surprise omissions, and potentially move De Paul to Fernandez to shut that door too.

Anyone else unable to change their captain? what fresh bullshit is this?!
Just checked, will let me set it to Messi.

Quick fire questions then.

Change ziyech cap? Assume yes
Messi or Mbappe. Going Messi at the mo.
Leave Giroud or switch to griezo or Alvarez.

Modric 1 pointer, will switch him either to de Paul on my bench, or transfer De Paul to Enzo Fernández or even bring Di Maria in if he's starting.

Any thoughts on these?

Yeah you have to change cap, otherwise any returns from Messi/Mbappe will be a red arrow. I'm leaning towards the ninja turtle.

I had Alvarez last round and backing him again here. He has looked more threatening than Giroud.

If Di Maria isn't starting then Mac Allister playing a bit advanced could be interesting.

Di Maria is in, so I think De Paul to him makes sense.

I'm still wrestling with Messi. The pens helps. Creates more as well...

@Samid, the game has shown me what my rivals have done already!

The guy 12 points behind has done Giroud to Alvarez and captained him. If I do the same then we have literally 10 players the same with the only point of difference keeper, me having Lloris, him having Martinez!!

Guy in 3rd has Griezo cap and 3 different defenders and Rab/Tchy, but if he makes up 20 from that lot, then fair play.

Lads. I'm 4th in a local league, 16 points behind the leader. Winning prize is a PS5!
Problem is is the top 3 teams and mine are so similar.

Need to do something quite different to make up those points.

Gamble on captain Giroud (Currently Perisic. everyone else will go Messi/Mbappe?)
Gamble and change my defenders to one side (all France) and pray for a clean sheet?

Have a look at their teams now.....
I've just noticed the guy i mentioned has switched MacAllister to De Paul so we'd have 2 point of differences!
Game of brinkmanship to last min I think

Only 1st has blinked so far. Differentials between us

1st: Otamendi, Alvarez
Me: Kounde, Giroud, Rabiot

He's captained Messi.

I'm not making up 16 points from there. What do you think of the Giroud captain gamble? Obviously have Messi/Mbappe too

None have Giroud

A captaincy that no-one else has might be what you need here.

Just seen 2nd place in my league move to Messi captain from Griezman. The distinction seems to be if you had captain on someone who played yesterday you can only move once. If you had it on someone yet to play you can move it until kick off...

I have 12 points v 2nd with him having Martinez & De Paul, me having Lloris & MacAllister. Do I shut down his keeper for free, as De Paul won't make up 12, or do I leave an extra Frenchie there as 3rd would have 2 extra defenders to me.

3rd is dangerous, as he has 6 def/mid differemtials, plus Messi captain.
At least if I keep Lloris it keeps the French defence at 1 difference.

Think I stick here.

Best of luck all!
