It just means that donkey boy is going to get more chances that he will miss.

Pool fans seem to be all giddy , hopefully it won't last long .
I think he will complement well with Nunez.

City has one huge battering-ram and now the Scousers will have a twin tower, battering-rams. We are a generation behind as usual and playing small ball when everyone have shifted to a new dynamic.

I did not rate him much before the world cup but since I think he can be a great striker. He reminds me a bit of Greenwood.

He would be miles better than Martial as a striker. Dynamic, great passer and movement.
feck!

I think Gakpo has all the markings of a 20+ goals a season forward.

It will last around 8 years sadly
The acclimatization curve for pl could be quite steep, hopefully he'll flop.

That's partially true but i rather hold back hope that we're still gonna move in the market, let's what happens, if we end up with Felix on a loan i say that's not too bad.

As someone said a month ago, he's equally got the makings of a guy who is playing for Huddersfield in a few years.

There's a lot that is very unrefined to his game. He turns the ball over a lot. He's not particularly agile, nor particularly fast, nor much of a dribbler, nor does he have hold up play. His aerial play isn't a strength.

What he does have is a great shot on him and very good crossing technique... But I just didn't see a top player in him to make him worth it for United, nor is he a striker or has ever shown he is a striker.

Ultimately it doesn't really matter.

You need to buy for your system, in what you are missing what's the fit for the team and what ETH wants.

Theres emerging talents every year, so no point thinking if ends with Gakpo for sure.

Same. I just want their mansion (or whatever resort they live in) in Tampa to burn to the fecking ground as a symbol of our wrath.

People say that we need a striker, but I hope they don't forget that 1) there is a worldwide shortage of quality in strikers at the moment and 2) thus the few good ones left will be overpriced regardless. Going for the experiment of converting Gakpo into a full-time striker like Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie did would have been better business for us down the road at such price.
Sounds like they got him for £37 million, too. Thirty fecking seven! We paid £45 mil for Aaron Wan fecking Bissaka, for feck's sake. I can't even...

Think many are lashing out a bit on this thread because he's going to our bitterest rival. I understand the annoyance but IF (huge one) it means we get a number 9 in the summer then can live with decision.

Well in that case I can't understand not getting this deal done before scousers did
the leaks from the club seems to suggest that his traits are not at the level that United wants, and are not sure whether he'd reached those level.
Would be fair if we have similar talent needs that needs developing, but we have no one but Martial.

the thing is, our pool of number 9s target will decrease significantly if we don't make the CL again. And with our rivals strengthening like this, our chance to finish top 4 is becoming slimmer by the day

Oh yeah it's top 4 or win Europa if we want to be in the running for any of those number 9's

I am impressed we didn't bid for him. Seemed like an easy thing to do.

We’re absolutely stacked on the left wing, so this signing only made sense if ETH genuinely believed he could develop him as a #9. Something that in itself would be a big risk for a 23 year old who’s never played there. If Erik thought he could though, and the club didn’t back him, then that’s very disappointing. The fact he’s ended up at Liverpool too is a gut punch.

Either way, we have to bring in a striker this January if we want to get top 4. Not doing so would be criminal.

Dont care about Gakpo but I'm pretty sure that these are going to waste another season by not doing anything to strengthen the team during January.

I hope the excuse won't be another "we can't guarantee him games as it might hurt some players feelings".

PSV are quite sensible with sell prices from what I gather.

They also know he was due to leave.
Right, and their director of football said that much just a week ago, but couple things

1. We all know we would have paid more than what 'Pool got him for
2. How the feck are we not paying 35mil for a forward we desperately need, where there are not many available? It's NOT a lot of money!

Absolutely gutted! Would he have fitted us? Absolutely yes. And we have big no 7 "hole" he could have directly filled. Our transatlantic business men bosses were haggling over prices as usual until the ship sailed into the next port.

Gakpo looked excellent in the world cup. Felt like the coming of age season for the lad. Can't believe we let another one slip. The worst thing about this is he is directly strengthening our top 4 rivals. Leave alone the quality he brings, the psychological boost a new signing brings to a team is hard to underestimate particularly in an extremely tight league as ours. He looks like a better dribbling version of Isak @ Newcastle. Tall, fast lad with very good dribbling abilities. He has the energy and work ethic to fit into the Klopp system. And just when there was hope with Diaz and Jota injury, they go on and reinforce with quality. If he helps Pool to top 4, I can see Bellingham heading there as well. Devastated.

He will probably do alright at Liverpool as they will play him in his favoured position until the others are fit again and then he will be a squad option.

Is there actually any evidence of him playing the number nine role in a 4231/433? There’s clearly a massive gap at Liverpool in his favourite position, we already have several players - including Garnacho, who everyone seemed pretty keen on giving game time to when he was scoring a winner in the last Premier League game.

It’s quite obvious we decided against signing him if he was available for that price. I’m sure in previous years we’d have done so without much of a plan of how to use him - see Di Maria - however, it does seem like we’ve decided he’s not right long term for what we need upfront. If he was actually a striker, there would be cause for this kind of reaction.

I’m So So impressed that Ten Hag didn’t go in for Gakpo.

I feel like he knows the quality of player he wants to bring to our clubs weaker areas.

Thanks a lot Ten Hag!

Summary of this thread:

Before Liverpool signing…he’s not good enough. Extremely overrated. Could never raise to the level of the Prem. He’s soft…

After Liverpool signing…we lost out again. Terrible recruitment. We will never get quality players. He’ll score 20+ in the Prem. Exactly the type of player we needed…
