If we have the funds then I’d rather we put them towards an attacking player rather than a midfielder. We are so short of options up top.
Unless it's five quid and a packet of sweets up front and the rest "sometime down the road", then we can't afford it this month.

Hopefully by the summer, the club will have either had an influx of cash from a new investor, or new owners.

I was a bit concerned that we might be struggling for centre mid options come the summer. Bellingham and Fernandez seemingly off elsewhere and De Jong supposedly a no-go too.

It’ll remain a rumour unless he takes a substantial paycut.

Barcelona’s financial problems aren’t going anywhere, and he remains their biggest asset they can sell. The La Masia twinks are going nowhere, and Kounde and Araujo will be mainstays in the defence for years to come. Maybe they can get around 60-70% of what they paid for Raphinha if a PL club are still interested.

After that… they’re pushing out players they want gone like Memphis, or “as much as we can get” for players like Kessie and Ferral Torres

Have had years worth of De Jong drama last summer. If he joins, will be happy, because we do need strong midfield. But won't hold my breath and this is only happening if we get super rich owners, anyway. We have couple other positions we need to strengthen (striker, backup rigth back, backup CB) before we can think of somebody like De Jong.

I'd argue that De Jong would be a bigger priority than a backup right back and centre half.

Surely he's turned on at the thought of playing with Casemiro and Bruno? What a midfield trio.

Annoys me he clearly didn’t fancy it last year but now probably sees the progress and has had a change of heart, combined with the realisation Barca is a sinking ship. A smarter brain could have seen that all coming in the summer.
It shows ambition on his part imo. If we don't finish in the top 4 he won't be coming here. He wants CL football and to be challenging for league titles. You can't begrudge him that.

Loan with transfer in the summer? Stranger things have happened.
Him and Thurman would be an incredible January window for very little outright expenditure.

Don’t forget we don’t have Ronaldo’s wages anymore

Not buying into it whatsoever but the prospect of him next the Casemiro is exciting.

Signing him is not worth it unless we can use the transfer thread from last summer.

Has Romero said anything about a significant rise in temperature yet?

Can someone find the video someone here made with the subtitles and the monsters and the German/foreign and all that? Shouldn't take you longer than two minutes to find after that fantastic description.

Rather a stop gap attacker over De Jong no chance. That’s the kinda garbage move we’ve been pushing for a decade. And we ain’t sorting out long term number 9 in Jan.

I’m not saying we are going to sort the long term number 9 position in Jan but going in with just an injury prone Martial until the end of the season as the only option isn’t exactly the wisest of moves unless Martial can stay injury free which I’m not going to bet on as his injury history shows. It’s the sort of decisions at boardroom level that have been made throughout - neglecting an area of the pitch that very evidently needs priority strengthening over others and just persevering with what we have in that particular area. Signing someone like a Marcus Thuram from Gladbach would make more sense than spending money on another midfielder when the performances on the park are clearly showing where the weaknesses in this team lie - i.e. in the final 3rd. Considering how close the teams in the top 4 are to each other bar Arsenal, top 4 could easily get decided by GD at the end of the season which we are trailing on. Plus De Jong, who didn’t even fancy the move in the 1st place back in the summer despite us trying to the very end to get him in and resulting in us going for Casemiro instead (which has proven to be a blessing in disguise), won’t come cheap unless Barca drastically reduce what they were wanting for him in the summer.

He's coming home.

Probably sees us getting ucl next season and has come to the realisation that xavi is not the saviour of Barca after spending two seasons playing in europa knockout football instead of ucl knockout and not touching real madrid any time soon in the league.

This saga can wait until the summer quite frankly. I’d be pissed if we spent money on him rather than the more pressing matter of a striker this month.

Although I have no idea how bad Barcelona’s finances are, on top of us being in ownership limbo too. Is it beyond the realm of possibility that there’s Barcelona officials speaking to some potential oil baron who is on the brink of becoming the new Utd owner about giving some money in exchange for one of their players?

They are top of the league I just don't think he fits behind Gavi and Pedri.

He's coming home.

What fake news the troll releases. Then people believe them and the party begins.

Well if he is to leave Barca they won't get the money they were looking for last summer. I hardly ever watch Barca so don't know how good he actually is and if he is consistent enough to become top player.
Barcelona if they want to sell De Jong will be for a similar amount.

Signing him is not worth it unless we can use the transfer thread from last summer.

Romero has said Barcelona will try to sell a player for around €50m.
I imagine it will be F. Torres, Rafinha or even Dembélé.

Barca can sell his house, shave him bald and claim all his birthday gifts and he will still stay there. I know this the moment he giggled when Pique asked his gf to leave a seat during a match. Where is the dignity!!!!

Wouldnt surprise me if he says "after you sir" when using public toilet.

If we got him for 60m and he agreed to 150 large per week, then sure. Otherwise he can feck right off.
