Might be the greatest mark up/come up of all-time there from Benfica

Signed for 12m 6 months ago only to sell for a PL record fee of a cool 100m more shortly after.

That World Cup tax was astronomical and we've got an owner with more money than brains willing to fork over whatever for a splash

Hope he flops and fecks Chelsea over for the next few seasons.
I don't think he will, but there's no chance he'll be worth what they are paying. Someone will sign someone just as good, for half the price.

I certainly wouldn't think he'd come in and turn their fortunes around alone.
They're sitting in 9th and still badly need a striker in the short term, not in 6 months.

Haaland has outscored their whole team by himself in the league ffs

Benfica have taken Liverpool and Chelsea to the cleaners in a matter of months.

Would love to see what the average transfer fee has been for Chelsea under Boehly, must be a monstrous amount.

They've spent at least 70m+ on the likes of Fofana, Cucurella, Nkunku and now Enzo...

He seems nailed on to be a great player. Broad skillset, great mentality, plays with a lot of authority.

Mad money though, and with the way Chelsea have been throwing around money recently it does look very scattergun. Everything just seems a bit rushed and chaotic, and that could create the kind of environment where even someone as good as Fernandez could fail.

I’m disappointed we couldn’t get him but glad we didn’t spend so much money on him. In fairness Chelsea have a much bigger need in midfield, so maybe it makes some sense?

and for someone like Enzo, they have a nobody as manager with a boring name who have struggled massively this season (it's not like he would know a whole lot about Graham Potter let's be real).
I would say there was a very big chance he sounded out his international midfield teammate for a bit of information on that score.

Yeah... I'd say it would've been similar to Pogba to United, but United had the lure of Ibra and new Mourinho that summer (and the return factor). I really think Chelsea's stock has taken a big hit, and they don't have Tuchel anymore who was a big lure, and just don't play well at all and have a shit squad. So it's definitely a surprise that he's jumping at the first chance to move. We'll see how it turns out, I think he's class but Chelsea need to fill a lot of gaps, and Potter needs to adapt to a big club and we'll see if he can even implement the right system. The money being spent is insane, and Boehly is definitely a transfer Muppet who just goes for anyone, but might work.
Yeah I think the money is too good to turn down. They would have to sell him for less in the summer. I say would as he would clearly want to go.

As for Chelsea I think the fans are going to be in for a big surprise. We know first hand, you can have all the tools but the culture needs to be right. Roman’s culture is hard to replace. Similar to SAF and Wenger.

So it's shaping up as:

Enzo - Chelsea
Bellingham - Madrid
Caicedo - Liverpool
???? - United

Back to De Jong?

The only reason he was that cheap in the first place is because the Argentine economy is on the floor.

Look at their neighbours by comparison who could hold out for €70m for a 16 year old, in normal circumstances River would have held out for around that.

The transfer market is broken, if it wasn’t before. £127m! Crazy money.

Hard to believe when the record signing from the Argentine league is Lautaro Martinez to Inter for 25m.

His squad mate at River, Julian Alvarez, who's a goal scoring forward would always cost more than a midfielder and he went for 21m.

The mark up is one for the ages but in this instance he's maybe not worth it relative to his fee but if you've got it, why not. He'll be a terrific player for a long time.

I wouldn't mind us signing the other Enzo (Le Fée) as an understudy to Eriksen. He's a very good dribbler and passer. He's small but a decent tackler too.

It's the kind of fee which midfielders struggle to justify.
He'll be expected to be an all-action combo of Viera/Keane in defense mixed with prime Yaya/Lampard in attack

At least that's how we've been told it works

I know Chelsea is a big club but signing Nkunku & Enzo Fernandez seems pretty impressive.

Not everyone has the ability to spunk a cool 200m on 2 players to follow up a world record breaking summer window...

Fair play to Boehly though, really has put his money where his mouth is and isn't afraid to do whatever it takes to bring talent in. Roman would be proud.

I don't think this is as mad as it sounds.

They're buying a 21 who I would guess they expect to be a Chelsea player for the next 10 years.

Buying a 21 year old for £112m (€127m) is really not that different to buying a 26 year old for £56m and then 5 years later buying another 26 year for £56m.

Goalscorers always go for a lot more.

Not a single >100m signing who was not a genuine goal scorer has succeeded.

Dembele, Coutinho, Joao Felix, Griezmann, Grealish, Hazard, Pogba
0/7

Amongst goal scorers, Neymar, Mbappe, Neymar, Lukaku, Ronaldo
3-4/5 have been clear successes.

Mental fee and even crazier pressure to put on a 21y old. Hopefully he's given time alongside Potter to find his feet but he will probably have 4 differents managers during his time here.

However you want to stipulate it, a PL record fee for a midfielder with just 6 months of European club football experience is definitely quite mad...

That's the most expensive fee for a true midfielder ever.

The market is mad in general but that's another example of it rather than an established norm

Nkunku who’s decent, and a midfielder who’s only been in europe 6 months? hardly astounding work.

Paying a record transfer for him is a huge gamble, but one Boehly seems happy to make

Impressive? If you throw enough money around, you can sign anyone. Their spending is beyond daft.
Their spending is spending from the future, a bit like Barca.

FFP is going to muzzle them unless they can sell players for more than book value, but most of these signings are on big wages.

Like Lukaku and his 350k/week means only loan suitors.

Worth a watch. Interesting analysis that chelsea would be better spending their money on a replacement for Kante rather than enzo who is a longer term replacement for jorginho.

Also enzo needs a disciplined DM next to him to do the hard yards and keep tactical shape, while enzo goes and does his thing.

Unreal money but he’s very young and as close to a safe bet as it gets. Can only envy Chelsea it’s their midfield he’s joining

They also have the best academy by a mile.

They sold Abraham, Tomori, Zouma and Guehi for £120m last summer and they could easily raise another £100m+ selling Gallagher, Broja, Colwill and Hudson-Odoi.

They also have a ton of England youth internationals they will be able to sell in the next few years.

This absolutely is the thinking. Money paid for a player is relative to their performance level and how long you have them. If he plays for us for 10 years then it will be a steal really. Now, the primary concern is how he handles being “the most expensive ever” tag.

For as long as that tag lasts anyway. By Summer or next January this could look tame.

It's more the fact they could've had him for €15m 6 months ago

The transfer won’t work. Chelsea’s collection of players is Just bizarre and the dressing room is probably a very unhappy place.

if you were told before the world cup you’d be signing him for 100m+ you’d be rightfully thinking it’s ludicrous.

Obviously as a chelsea fan you’re excited and you’re going to spin it positively, but it’s still bonkers.

United fans expected pogba to win games by himself and control matches for that kind of money, let’s hope chelsea fans don’t expect more too.

Even if it does look tame by summer, he'll still have it to live up to. Maguire certainly does, even now.

No doubt caciedo or rice will join in the summer, to be the foil for enzo. Both will cost alot of money.
