Ten Hag wanted Nunez. Liverpool gets Nunez.
Ten Hag says he needs Gapko. Gapko goes to Liverpool.
Ten Hag says bring me Felix. Felix goes to Chelsea.
Feel bad for him, he is trying to get something going here.

Sorry, when did all this happen?

I would say it's 99% sure he doesn't go to Chelsea permanantly but Boehly seems the type who would drop £200m out of desperation.

Of course but I mean how thick do you have to be to allow this to happen?

Chelsea a feeder club. Embarrassingly bad.

It doesn’t seem Felix has any desire to go to Chelsea long term either.

This can go Saul levels bad. Just doesn't look like a signing that can solve their problems.

United weren’t paying 100m for Nunez. Quite rightly too no?

You’re just making things up

Fair play to atletico , they were looking for a stooge to rob silly and good old Todd stepped up again. It’s no wonder every club around Europe invites him to dinner when he turns up in their city.
I think he’s a very good player, but the only saving grace for this Chelsea is meant to be that they’re planning long term, then they spend a fortune on the most short term loan ever, typical of a club in self destruct mode.

Whilst I can understand why people are disappointed about missing out on Felix, I think theres a high likelihood that this wont work out well for Chelsea:
  1. With the loan fee, wages and taxes Chelsea are paying close to £700k a week for the privilege of loaning Joao Felix - this is more than we were paying for Ronaldo and closer to Mbappe levels of investment.
  2. Felix has a 1 in 4 goal scoring record in la liga. He’d have to find the best form of his entire career to score more than 5 goals for Chelsea.
  3. People blame Simeone for this poor return but his record for Portugal is 1 in 7 (4 goals in 28 appearances). Hardly prolific.
  4. He has an extensive history of ankle injuries which will no doubt be a worry for a slight-bodied 23 year old playing in one of the worlds most physical leagues for the first time.
  5. Felix has never played more than 1700 minutes in the league in his career. Thats around 18 full games per season. The intensity of the premier league is already a huge step up, let alone in a season like this where there are games every 3 or 4 days. His form or fitness will likely deteriorate long before the season ends.
  6. He’ll be playing in London away from most of his Portuguese compatriots (most of whom are up north) in a struggling Chelsea team where both the fan base and dressing room appears to be at odds with the manager.
  7. Even if he bucks trend and breaks the Chelsea forward curse Chelsea have no option to make the deal permanent and will likely be held over a barrell by Atletico.
The most likely outcome here is that Felix shows flashes of talent, scores very few goals and ends up injured or exhausted. He’ll ride the bench for the remainder of the season before heading back to Atletico, just like Saul Niguez before him.

Agree with most of your points and think Felix is going to be a bad signing for us but come on, it's nowhere near "Mbappe level of investment" seeing as Mbappe is on around €4M a week.

But yeah even if that cost comparison was terrible it's still a shit load of money for someone who's very likely not going to be a great fit.

Now that we're out of both domestic cups, before Felix is even eligible to play we'll only have 19 league games left plus however far we get in the UCL. All added up we're realistically looking at 21-23 games left in the season and chances are Felix is not going to play them all so at £15M total his cost per game is going to be very high. Even if he somehow fits in I still very much doubt he'll score more than 5-6 goals from now till the end of the season so is £2-3M/goal worth it? Feck no.

Only way I can see this becoming a good loan signing is if he's actually great and we end up buying him on a permanent deal in the summer, but right now that seems unlikely. Or if he somehow fires us to a CL title which is even more unlikely.

I assume that Chelsea will look to sign him permanently after the loan, assuming that the loan goes well of course.

Is he feck. Ronaldo is on the most in all world football. 4M a week would be him at €192M a year. Which is definitely not true.

He's on roughly £1M a week which is still ridiculous but not €4M a week. Jheeze.

Atletico have done them over on any potential signing too.

He’s agreed a new 4 year deal with Atletico before he moves on loan.

Club will be able to charge mega money and hold all the power in the summer.

It also suggests the player isn’t that sold on the Chelsea project either..

Why would he sign a new contract though when he doesn’t get on with simeone? Makes no sense at all.
Actually makes perfect sense if reports of Simeone leaving at the end of the season are true. He is paid 300k/wk at ATM. No club is going to pay that much for him so moving would mean him taking some pay cut.

I love how people keep bringing up Nunez like we missed out on him at £85m!! Have you watched this guy play?

Good signing without much context as he should suit the Potter system better than Simeone, will be interesting to see where he plays and what would be the combination. He is more suited as LW or SS and Chelsea have too many players who plays behind the striker. Maybe Sterling will become key player as he is the one player who always makes the runs.

By doing so they’ve managed to maintain his asset value which was decreasing whilst also having his wages off the books until July.

They’ll be a big saving In there somewhere.

Crap deal eitherway if your Chelsea. Even if they decide to sell he’ll cost £100m.

Didn’t know simeone was leaving.

He’s going to cost a lot considering he’s renewing his contract

Oh sh*t yeah of course, my bad
I was too quick to dunk on Chelsea to realise he weren't out of contract this year. I was such an idiot :lol::lol:
Even the one year extension is pretty telling. Addin that to the rumours of Simeone leaving at the end of the year and there you go

He has 4 months to make an impact in a shit show of a Chelsea team. The kid has a big task ahead of him.

So Chelsea take away a disgruntled employee for 4 months until Madrid get thier new coach in the summer where he will extend his contract. And they are paying Madrid on top of this while paying his wages.

Meanwhile felix gets to chill out in London for a couple months with no care to what actually happens at Chelsea as he will be back in sunny Madrid come June looking forward to a new coach. Nice

I’m rather enjoying this football manager approach from the new Chelsea owner. I feel we did well to not go for Felix. He‘s simply not worth the money they wanted.

What kind of deal is this from Chelsea? It makes no sense whatsoever. Where is the buy close at the end of this loan spell, otherwise this is insanity from them.

Chelsea are essentially burning 17 millions for Felix to play 5 or so months for them and use their facilities to 0 end. They won't get CL out of this(10 points behind fourth with 6 teams ahead to outperform for the rest of the season). So this loan move won't get you Champions league football nor will it get you the player permanently since there is no buy clause, then what is the point of this? Surely one does not burn through that money on Felix for the purpose of securing a top half finish on the table.

Can anyone seriously explain to me the upside and point of this loan? I'd have understood if they had the option to make his stay permanent at the end of the loan spell but that won't be(he's even to sign an extension before his loan move) or if he was given for free. Seriously what is this?

He's cup tied isn't he? Meaning he can't play champions league.

I wanted him for his quality, but I am still fine with Chelsea having him. They're a mess.

Potter is really good so he will eventually get going but right now Felix is walking into low morale side that isn't clicking.

Felix is a good player and will improve them quite a bit over the next 4 months.

However, financially and sportingly it's a crazy signing. Chelsea are keen to let it be known this is a long term project, Potter is their man etc so it's a very strange signing in that sense. They're not really playing for anything. It's bordering on delusional to think they are still playing for the top 4 - to get to 70 points (which still might not be enough given us and Newcastle are currently trending above that, Spurs bang on course for it) they'd need 45 points from 21 games - the squad isn't in a good enough state to achieve this regardless of Felix. They haven't yet won a game against anyone in the top 10.

So what is the point of them signing him? He's not going to help them achieve any sporting objectives this season as those are gone, there's no option or obligation to buy him, so it just feels like they've lit fire to £16m, as this isn't going to help them enough in the short term, and has no benefit whatsoever in the longer term. I could understand it if they were very close to top 4 / challenging for a title, but they're not.

who’s disappointed now? The club would have got chastised if we were doing this deal & rightfully so!

Why do you care so much though it doesn't matter hes a good player who would help cement top 4. Criticism only matters if that criticism is applied objectively and at the end of the day United gets the clicks, negative clicks especially.

I mean how much is Chelsea receiving for their new manager spending hundreds of millions yet finding themselves in 10th, until recently hardly even a blip, why is that.

Ornstein is the one who said it. I guess he’s a tier one when it suits and just talking crap when it doesn’t yeah? :D

He is obviously a transfer tier-1 for the London teams.

He also obviously has an in with Boehly and that generally means quid pro quid.

A little nuance is too much? ;)

I guess its a expensive test period for Chelsea to see if Felix is suited to the Premier League. If he is a success than they can still try to buy him in the summer and be sure that he wont be another flopped attacking player for them. They might not have an option to make it permanent in the loandeal but that doesnt mean they cant buy him ''the normal way''.
