Kovacic won't? If that's true then spend the money on him. He's a much better player than FDJ. I'd be amazed if Chelsea sold him though, until Enzo arrived he was comfortably their best CM. I think they'd make two thirds of a very good midfield.
I'd take him too, but he's top of the list of every article you read on chelsea clearouts

forget it guys.....He's not leaving Barca, not sure why that's so hard to accept
Yeah, feck him! He had his chance. I just hope we destroy them at OT and the cameras focus on him as they're trudging off the field.

We need to stop twerking for a guy who doesn't want to be here.

Quality player but he clearly sees his future at Barcelona. I have come to a realisation that one player will not change our fortunes after all those years of signings. Pogba, Matic, Sanchez, Sancho etc.. where people thought he they are a missing piece, never are and we can find a suitable alternative.

Yday was a good example of sometimes overhyping a player, our midfield pressed him really well and he was guilty of losing possession a few times too.

I feel like that young belgian kid we were linked with will be the alternative to de jong.

First of all, he had a poor game vs an impressive United but a lot of this can be attributed to him missing Busquets. I've been critical of the latter but recently the two of them have formed a great understanding in midfield allowing Frenkie to shine. Kessie just isn't the same player. Posters shitting on him saying he's average, bullet dodged etc are clearly ignorant and don't watch Barca recently, that or very bitter.

Secondly, the guy is not weak or lacking in personality, he stayed at Barca to fight for his place at his dream club even with odds stacked against him; he is now our most important midfielder alongside Pedri. The amount of hate he gets on here because he doesn't want to join United is hilarious and quite frankly embarrassing  "the cameras focus on him as they're trudging off the field":lol::lol:

Arent we missing the point that De Jong has no interest in leaving Barca?

Heard an interview the other day where he said as much.

Barca were never the obstacle. They were happy to sell.

^^^^ This. Not everyone wants to join United, so be it. Reminds me of the Kluivert deal, United had a deal in place with Milan, but Kluivert had no interest in United. It happens, move on to the next player.

I love this post.

"He is our most important midfielder alongside Pedri"

But his poor game reasoning is they missed Busquests.

Clearly isn't your best midfielder when you say you missing Busquets.

He doesn't get "hate", he is getting fair criticism for an extremely poor performance. Half the forum still seem to want him despite the fact he turned us down so if that's hate I'd love to see what liking a player is. Not everything is that personal, he was just a load of rubbish last night.

He looked pretty average last night. As in, Fred looked better than him. He seemed to struggle at times when pressed and was very much safety first. Gavi, now there's a player. Throw some money at him instead.
What the hell? :houllier: Gavi was largely anonymous as well anz couldn't really do much so this is a weird thing to say after this game and how you went on about how average FdJ looked.

So if Eriksen is played as the deepest midfielder as a #6 next to Fred with Casemiro out and plays a shit game, he isn't one of our most important midfielders for the way we want to play?

He is by far the most important player for Oranje. It was after he became a starter that we climbed back out of the not even making it to tournaments wilderness. He's not going to singlehandedly win us any silverware though as we simply don't have any creativity or end product in the final third to really hurt the top opponents.

I don't think he was a leader for Ajax either honestly, he was the engine that ran the entire way they played, but Blind and Tadic were probably the captains on that ship.
I kind of meant leading in terms of relentlessly driving the team forward, which was remarkable to see tied to the talent he was doing so with.

I'm more disappointed in him because I had him earmarked then as someone who was going to show even more of those qualities as he aged, but he's gone into a shell and is so much more passive now than then.

Take on board what you say about the NT. I guess more the issue is my own expectations. He should be one of the players of his generation(!)

Casemiro is our most important player though. I never said he isnt. For example, Eriksen who has been very important to the way we play but, If Casemiro has a bad game, I wont blame Eriksen for not playing.

Damn, the amount of criticism FDJ is getting is surprising. He didn't have the best game yesterday but that's not surprising since he was played out of position. Hardly a reason to completely right him off in my opinion. If he were to join United, no doubt he'd be a great fit but if he wants to stay at Barcelona, who can knock that? Got to respect his ambition to help them back to the top.

Just love the way he’s able to craft a beautifully weighted pass in any triangular direction. He really is the missing piece of the puzzle for us right now I think.

Poorly worded by myself. I meant to say Eriksen would very likely struggle as the #6 next to Fred without Casemiro (similarly to FdJ next to Kessie and no Busquets) because you take away the actual CDM that allow these players to do what they do best.
But even if Eriksen would struggle as the #6, it does not mean he's not one of our most important players or "can't handle the intensity of PL" like some posters said about FdJ which is quite frankly a ridiculous thing to say. Neither Eriksen nor FdJ are defensive midfielders and it's not a good idea to play them like they are. Xavi doesn't need Frenkie because he already has Gavi and Pedri in midfield, and there aren't many players with De Jong's skillset out there that are available.
I'm not sure I want him after him not wanting to join us last year, but denying his talent and skills is just weird. It reeks of bitterness among the posters here.

I dont think he has been at all passive this season for Barcelona, though he was yesterday. I do agree he should be more agressive in making his mark on a game. And I dont mean by whining at the ref, because that's something I hope he will grow out of at some point.

I love watching him play and do think he could still become the best midfielder in the world (though I've never actually seen Enzo Fernandez not look great so maybe #2), but if he does sign for us, City or Chelsea I could see him struggling a bit in his first year in the Prem.

Feck off! Yeah, you're damn right, I want to see the saltiness when you get spanked and he sees what he's missing...playing for United instead of coasting in a two-team league, collecting three points every week. I don't hate him. I just don't care about him and I don't want United twerking for him next season. I couldn't care less about that corrupt club and de Jong.

No way near as embarrassing as Barca fans trying to get him out of your club to get new toys in

Didn’t want him to be honest, he is fecking around with us all summer, or maybe it’s a case we are just being stupid wasting all our time on him as he never expressed any interest to join us.

Either way, I don’t want to waste whole summer on him again. Let’s try to get Bellingham instead.

Can somebody describe exactly when in that clip he was in awe of Old Trafford?? Ffs, the lengths people go to just to follow a narrative.
He was clearly weighing up whether we should renovate Old Trafford or build a new stadium. You can see him eyeing the South Stand and doing calculations w/r/t the railway line behind it. Surprised you missed that, mate.

Having Busquets back there has liberated him.
