Not far enough
The first half was good tactically and we did what we've been doing for some time in the build up phase. And Liverpool's goal came about due to a poor mistake from Fred. Second goal due to a poor mistake from Shaw and we've now given away two cheap goals to Liverpool at Anfield on a plate at that stage. And then more mistakes are made trying to chase the game and it seems like certain players gave up with others losing their composure.

Luke Shaw had a mare and Bruno gave up the ghost. And that's disgraceful from Man Utd players. I'm sure a inquest will be held internally, because that second half was a disgrace with too many players throwing in the towel or losing their heads.

In a way it's good that we have been brought down to earth with a bang. And that will help Erik ten Hag better plan for the now and mid to long-term. There's already threads questioning ten Hag but for me he's definitely the right guy and he has to get the players out that don't suit his style of play from both a football and mental capacity.
I think the first goal came by mistake from Antony actually.

He wasn't on the pitch for 6 of the goals. :(
It’s a good point but he doesn’t look like scoring a goal of any description against any PL team, this is a reality check, we all need to breath in, while Liverpool’s much maligned owners were trying to buy the right young players who always need time, our owners were telling Arnold and Murtourgh to scamper round a week before and get the cheapest loans suitable. We move on, United fans do not need to argue, the team was tired but at the same time for the first time they were not a united as a Squad, they stopped fighting for each other and looked to blame each other ,which is synonymous of last year, we conceeded 58 goals last year, we’ve now conceeded 35 with 13 games to go, anyone thinking the club only need 1-2 players to win a title is insane and I for one can’t wait for new ownership, and someone at the very top who gets angry when results like this. I’m sorry sone players are simply not as good as they think they are and I’m sure in ETH he will soon show those players the door and replace them with his own men.

That doesn’t mean we need knee jerk reaction but our goal difference is +6 and we’ve not beaten any team by more than 3, I’d say we are a long way from what he’s thinking of! So let’s put today behind us and celebrate the ladies won 5-1 today instead.

I’m so annoyed by this.

Do Bayern, Juve, Madrid, PSG, Ajax, ever get smashed like we do? It’s disgusting really.

Losing isn't a big deal because it's inevitable. You will lose some games. We can't win them all but losing 7-0 to Liverpool is a big fecking deal. It's like we're starting over again and all the progress we've made was erased. How dowe go from beating Barcelona to winning a throphy last week to this?? feck those Liverpool scums. I wish our players understood the history and played knowing that you never let fecking Liverpool beat you 7-0. It's an embarrassment.

It's not about ego, it's about people trying to pass this off as if it's just another loss.

This one will be talked about for decades. That's my point
Would you rather beat Liverpool 7-0 or achieve your targets in a season and win some trophies? That's where I am. Been on a great run. February was the best month for United post Sir Alex. We were due a low point. Not great that it's quite this bad, but it doesn't undo us being 3rd, doesn't undo beating Barcelona, doesn't undo us winning the league Cup.

Missed this thank god but honestly I felt worse with last seasons losses.

I think I’m just in shock, but we know this is not a true representation of us at the moment, likewise with Liverpool. Whereas last season was just confirmation of the state we were in.

It’s an absolute freak result which no one seen coming.

Yes the players should be embarrassed but let’s not get carried away. We are third, have a trophy and could get more this season.

Plus I trust Ten Haag. I’d like to think this result will just spur us on like the Brentford result, not signal the collapse of our season.

Embarrassing. Humiliating. Disgraceful. Words that have become all too familiar, so take your pick. Can't be any either way, either. Players who have no business playing at this level, like Weghorst and Antony. Like playing with 9. Players who on a bad day are really, really bad, like Bruno and Shaw.

I'm tired, boss...

BBC saying this equals our worst ever result. Ever.
Equal to worst result in the history of the club, worst result in the PL era.

For anyone that says "move on" and "its just 3 points", do rivalries not mean anything to you anymore?

A few takeaways: Phoning it in after conceding a few times to Liverpool is just inexcusable. Its fine to lose games, that absolutely happens. The pedestrian shithousery that went on on that pitch is unbecoming of any Manchester United player.

Bruno Fernandes: Bruno deserves every bit of credit for what he has done at the club since he came. Bruno can also remain a outfield player without the captains armband. Give it to someone who actually deals with heat and hard times with a steady head. Give the captains armband to Varane, Martinez or Casemiro. Any of those guys at lest keep giving everything even when the house is burning. Brunos body language when things are hard pisses me off to no end. Captain sultry.

Antony: He could improve, but I am losing patience with how attacks go to die the moment he gets the ball. He HAS to improve, regardless of pricetag.

Wout is not a starter. He is a excellent role player, but he is not the guy that should start up front for Manchester United.

"Shit happens" is definitely a thing. This however is not "shit happens", its the closest thing you get to treason on a football pitch.

In recent years we have regrettably developed a larger-than-life mental block when it comes to Liverpool I even said before the game that if we beat them tonight we will be right in the mix for the title, a hundred percent -- such is the morale boost it would have created. Now this drubbing, as freakish as it is, unfortunately has the potential to completely derail our season.

What would get you upset? Liquidation?
This season honestly not a whole lot. If we let this result affect us and we capitulate and throw away top 4.

This season was always about the big picture. I don't think this will stop us from having an excellent season. We are top 2 favourites for the Europa League and FA Cup still. Still 7 points clear of 5th. Still comfortably in 3rd.

I’m not sure the first half was “good” in any way. The first 20 minutes were terrible.

What really pisses me off is that players we were linked with(Gakpo/Nunez) and routinely ridiculed here are the ones who showed up and did the damage.
I have said a million times (it seems) Gakpo is a far better player than Antony and at a fraction of the price. The goals and the assists for a lesser PSV side in the same league said it all. We should have snapped him up when we had the chance. But we decided to pay ridiculous money for someone who is in danger of being a one trick show pony.

I think it’s important to remember we’re having a good season and hopefully this is a bad blip. Looking back through the goals it’s a weird one.

1st goal. Error from Varane. Also DDG would save it but it’s unlucky as Martinez (I think) comes across as the ball is hit.
2nd goal. Error from Shaw but then there’s about 8 ricochets and botched tackles before the ball ping pongs out wide and they cross and score. Just poor all round.
3rd goal. Martinez slips over and also no one tracking Gakpo. Free run into the box is amateur defending.
4th goal. Again deflected passes and ricochets. Great finish.
5th goal. Laziness to get out, it’s actually a great header as well.
6th goal. Pure luck, laurel and hardy like defending.
7th goal. Just awful. Firmino messes up his touch which somehow helps as everyone stops.

Point being there were a lot of freak goals in there and literally everything they tried came off. Next gane is huge for us, we aren’t as good as the media made out but we’re a lot better than what we just saw.

CL football is everything this year. Finishing above Pool and, ideally, keeping them out of CL has to be our revenge for this travesty.

probably too angry to comment yet but is anyone else still watching Sky? souness really is like a five-year-old child. no idea how sky can't be embarrassed by him.

The one thing I will say now is that the club needs to look very carefully at that performance and be brave: Bruno has been poor for weeks but today's performance was disgraceful. Gary Neville is right: if you lose the ball at Anfield you don't stand around waving your hands, you chase back. I think he needs to be left out for a while. maybe play two wide men. * cue the abuse *

Freakish result. In the last 10minutes it looked like they could blow the ball into our net and if they somehow didn’t we would oblige them by twatting it in there instead.
ETH has to earn his corn now. Pick them up. Still plenty to play for this season. Learn from today.
Yeah. Can we have a freakish result where we beat them 7-0 please.

Its real bad but people need to calm the fk down. It just seems that the season caught up with us. Everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong and we just look knackered. Sometimes its your losses that define you. We got hammered by Brentford ad Brighton and used it as a platform to develop. We pick ourselves up and go again.

On reflection I guess the players were physically and emotionally drained from two huge games and no rotation. Klopp spotted this and went for super high intensity in the hope we would gas out. It worked.

Oh I completely agree. Just a lot of "fans" seem to think its just another game.

EDIT As Im writing this Souness saying he knew they would win at least 3/0. What an absolute arse that man is. That is what getting a spanking by your biggest rivals allows.

ETH has improved us, no doubt anout that, BUT imo we are still pretty weak mentaly, especially if something goes against us in a match.
And yes i have said that a few times recently before this match.

I get the sense that some of our players are happy with the League cup for this season, as we were coming from a dark place and winning a cup 'is great for us'.

Weak mentality.

Scoreline accurately reflects how shit we were and its a reminder that pride does come before a fall. So many in here before the game acting like we are ready to win the league. Delusional, there are still a couple of seasons of improvements to go for that to happen.
7-0 loss to Liverpool is a disgrace
I think in a few days the reaction will tone down. Nobody in the right mind was expecting a title challenge this season. Its insane to even consider that. Liverpool lost 5 - 2 to Madrid and still gave a good performance today. I think we need to do the same. Just forget it as an anamoly and move forward. I genuinely felt we will take the 2nd half and come back with a draw. But I keep forgetting this a new team, still gelling with a lot of young players who are not used to winning much. The mentality was missing and I blame players like Casemiro, Varane, etc. in failing to calm the team. I wont read much into this result. Just a bad 2nd half and close it.

Absolutely angin result.

I’m not actually too bothered. Big picture. We’re class. Won a trophy and on course to win two more. They’re shite. They’ll be lucky to get europa league. This is their cup final. Goodnight.

Ten Hag being totally honest the players did not stick together and that’s what worries me more than such a crushing defeat. Those who do not have the right mentality will be shown the door, they have to support each other he’s so right with his words ! Watch the Glaziers try and push the button quicker now, that’s the one silver lining !

First goal wasnt on Varane. Fred has to close down Gakpo with Dalot trying and failing to deal with Robertson further forward. Varane reacted after Fred failed to close down anyone.

I was acceptable in the eighties
I couldn’t watch the match today and have just checked the score. Feck me…Was it bad day at the office/fatigue combined with Liverpool finding form or did it suggest something deeper and more concerning?
I recorded it and have just finished watching. I’ll admit at 4 nil I checked the score. I really don’t know what to think. I’ll need a few days to deal with it.

Yh Fred was in no man’s land but i blame Dalot more than him. Re Varane it was just a bit schoolboy, that’s all Gakpo does and he just let him do it.

Doesn't seem to be an issue with some of our players. Going back over the decades, can you imagine players like Robbo, Whiteside, Sparky, Steve Coppell, the Greenhoff brothers, Gordon McQueen, Big Peter, Best, Law, Bobby, Paddy Crerard, Eric and Keane rolling over and letting Liverpool stick 6 goals past us in 45 minutes? There would be blood all over the pitch before that happened.

I've seen some bad performances by various United teams in the past, including those managed by Sir Matt and Sir Alex, but I honestly can't remember one when we didn't even put up a fight.

I posted on another forum, yesterday, that I was worried about today.. just felt something wasn't so good about this game. Huge credit to Liverpool, relentless and clinical when we lost our way.

But I am quite shocked. That is a disgraceful result, should never happen. Reckless.

But, I look at those players, and that manager, and I expect that this will be considered a good, good lesson in the future. Because it has to be.

Unbelievable the amount of Liverpool fans I haven’t heard from for a long time getting in touch post-match.

Let’s hope the soppy bastards we saw in a United shirt that second half actually take a long hard look at themselves and never, ever put in a performance like that ever again. They embarrassed the entire fanbase and club tonight.

After being on such a high the last few weeks it makes it worse, shit can happen, the run was going to end somewhere, but you just cannot lose 7-0 to them.

Can't imagine what's going on in the heads of the players and manager after that shambles today.
From winning a cup to getting thrashed out of sight within a week is unthinkable!
Can blame some of it on tiredness I guess,
but 7 bloody nil, no way!!
