How well are you handling the 'banter'/ribbing?

Receiving bombardments of texts, calls, messages on WhatsApp, some from folk I've not heard from in ages. Not all intended to stick the boot in, but most are, however politely worded/goaded.

Reminds me of days in rival - or ABU - pubs where keeping your composure was essential.

I'm quite numb, so going through the polite motions hasn't been that difficult, but how's it going for you?

How about the self-reflection where you realise you're not quite the grown-up you masquerade as most days;l? More your triggers rarely get pressed so hard it's like you‘re tap-dancing across a minefield.

I honestly dont really care. I am fuming over the result and the way our players let us down last night, but the banter from rivals fans doesnt really touch me.

I have had so much abuse today it’s been rudiculous but all you can do is laugh and take it.

my partner is a scouser, so all that side of the family are pool fans. My brother is a die hard liverpool fan. I also work in a prison and football banter is very very real. Even today as I walked on to the landings the prisoners were loving ripping into me. It’s been non stop. Ain’t escaping this for a little while I feel.

I’m not on any social media (it’s shite) and I’ve heard very little from my Liverpool-supporting friends because we’re not children and they know they won’t get a reaction out of me anyway (plus most of them realise they’ve been shite all season and we’ve already won more silverware than they will).

So I’m doing great, thanks for asking.

More fuming the players basically gave up after 3-0, we created enough first half to be at least level, got sucker punched with two goals and then capitulated.

All these overreactions to ETH are mental, the players should know at 4-0 to basically try and see out the game, but we just folded all over the pitch.

I have reminded several people both today and yesterday evening that United have won the only trophy that's been available to win this season so far.

One game a trophy does not make. Even if it was a shocker.

I’m handling it better than I expected. Though it’s annoying how my other colleagues at work are constantly ridiculing me especially this Chelsea fan who just can’t shut up about it. It’s like they’ve been really waiting for a chance to dig in and boy have they got their chance.

It really sucks :(

2,3 even 4-0 i'd be yeah "well done".

7-0 has a bit of surrealism to it, so my response atm the moment is either ignore/silence or FECK OFF....sooooo, not well, i guess.

My ethos with football is living in the here and now, so I don’t crow about 20 times as it’s consigned to history.

If any Liverpool mate comes up to you with banter, retort with how many trophies their team won this season (laugh if they say Community Shield), ask them what other competitions they’re in and ask them about their chances in the Bernabeu next week.

Question, do they get to watch the football in jail?

The only conversation I’ve had with a Liverpool fan since yesterday was very normal, he mentioned it obviously, but to his credit he then accepted that we looked tired and said we’re trying to fight on too many fronts and said there’s way too much football being played.
I randomly got a load of replies on a tiktok comment I left about ten hag like 10 weeks ago, which was strange.

Ah man and I’m guessing the majority of prisoners are scousers as well?

Whilst acknowledging that the capitulation was very much unacceptable and self-inflicted, I laugh at how a bad 45 minutes brings all the idiots to centre stage. I include our own fans in that as well. Any good that proceeded yesterday was a fluke, sell all the players, sack the manager etc.

Even Blackburn fans and Wigan fans have been ripping me today. I mean come on ffs. Not only do they live in inbred backwater towns, they see us as some sort of rivals

Slowly going around the bend!
I've got away with it fairly well so far.
After the Carabao cup game I was on a call with a Newcastle fan and another guy asked if we wanted to talk about the game first, to which I said 'no, as these things tend to come back and bite you in the arse'. How right I was, just didn't expect it so soon. I think that cleared me a little.

Apart from a couple of work colleagues and old uni-pals, I don't have any friends/acquaintances supporting Liverpool, so I've not had to deal with any private messages/banter thankfully.

There's the odd social media post taking the piss, but that's understandable. I'd have done the same thing tbf.

We support a club that only exists when we lose. Said it many times. When we win they didn’t catch the game….lose and my phone buzzes all night. Even West Ham fans are all over me. Never respond. Just wait until we have something positive to text about back…

Not a shred of humility between the 6/7 lads that have messaged me. I’ve been humble in success this season and I’ve also not stuck the boot in to the scousers either. Most of them are 5-10 years younger than me to be fair and think that’s got a bit to do with it. They’ll dine out on this for some time, no hiding from it. We need to go out and win a few on the bounce now. Liverpool only have Bournemouth before playing City at the start of April so they’ll be buoyant for some time. A second humbling by Madrid would ease the pain.

Strangely I'm the only United Supporter at my place of work. Monday morning meeting, dragged into the boardroom & everyone was taking the piss even the non football supporting plonkers were at it. My work nemesis is a dipper but to be fair to him he was holding back the most. What a horrible day. I'm just sat in the pub on my dinner nursing a pint of shit lager and staring into space. I cooked a shoulder of lamb for a roast dinner yesterday and didn't touch it. I might just go home and give it to my dogs and get an early night.

How can you be taking it from a Chelsea fan with how they are playing at the moment? You've got to chuck it straight back at him with spades.

Got a haircut with a Liverpool fan in an hour. Can't wait.

I absolutely tore him after their 2-5 recently so I have to take this...

Not accepting anything off any cnut that wasn't at Anfield yesterday. If they were there, fine I'll take it, if they weren't they can feck right off.

That being said, in my experience the match going proper Scouse Liverpool fans tend to be more pragmatic & realistic that the internet bellends. Not dissimilar to United really.

It's a difficult today but this is due to the Bin Dippers being the most despicable club & fan base in world football. The positive press they get is galling when taking into account their fans & players behaviour. Any other club in the world would be pariahs if they had murdering fans & openly racist players but this lot seem to be beyond reproach.

I had a chat with my seven year old walking to school.

He said that he was going to get some jeering from his little school pals - I asked him what he was going to do?

He said - well United are still ahead of them in the table and we have a cup so I will remind them of of that and that United beat them at Old Trafford.
Dont worry be happy

It doesn’t help when said “fan” wanted Chelsea to lose last week so they could get rid of Potter.

Keeps coming back at me with no matter how shit they’re now, they’ll never get thumped 7-0.

I’m quite surprised how much is being let go on the Caf tbh.

Should have been a fair few bannings. Plenty of sleeper oppo fans who have blatantly come out of hiding having not posted in months/years.

Place is too soft on the cnuts these days.

It's been non-stop here. Can't avoid it. I normally do not care for banter but it's getting too much. The worst part is people who couldn't tell you the number of players a team is meant to have are in on it.

I hope it all goes to their heads and papers over the cracks so they don't try to fix them.

Have had people who don't even follow football chip in with their two cents.

To be honest, well deserved after what is the worst result we have seen in our lifetimes. Means feck all in the grand scheme of things, but as a match itself it is truly a shocker.

Treating it like a death in the family.

I'm ignoring it and in a few weeks after pushing it deep down with everything else I'll forget it ever happened.

Magical Manchester United.
Probably too old and too far away from Manchester to care much, there have been some messages by Liverpool supporting mates, but it’s just banter, and I just gave it back by telling them they’re still seven points behind us and we won a cup just last weekend, while they will win the grand total of feck all come May. I never hand out much banter the other way though, so most friends are quite nice and quiet even in victory.
