Think the series has got worse as it's gone on and i can't see the ending being anywhere near as poignant as it is with the game.

The relationship between the characters just doesn't have enough time to flourish like the game.
Feels like they could have extended the season but it is still very good. I fear more about season two where the story is more scattered and way more action based. I'll be honest, I doubt season two will be anywhere as good as the first if they stay "true" to the game.

On another note in the first few episodes i was very sceptical of the actress playing Ellie, but she's only got better as the shows gone on.

Interesting interview with Pedro, Bella and creators Neil and Craig. Well worth it just for the first five seconds...

Fun little Easter Eggs:

This week: James was played by Troy Baker (game Joel)
Next week: Anna will be played by Ashley Johnson (game Ellie)

Well hell, I think I knew he would make an appearance and didn't even cop on to that.

Nice episode. Pedro was pretty vicious.

Really glad they kept the torture scene. I thought they would, but they have cut other good content.

I thought it was the best episode of the show so far. Ellie and David were fantastic.

So apparently Johnson's character is Ellie's mom?? Now that is some serious metagaming right there.

Yeah. It's obv gonna be a flashback but will be interesting as she's (the mom) not in either game.

Aside, I've watched 8 a couple of times more today and it's better than I thought at 3am
Yeah, I saw a quote from Druckman that he wanted Anna's story to be told but he just couldn't do it in the game. Kudos for you for rewatching it, I don't know if I am ready to watch that last 3 minutes again. Not surprisingly, it hits differently than in the game. You could just hear her breaking inside. Should win an Emmy for that scream alone.

Subtle change to last minute that i would have preferred if they kept as it was in game that Joel comforts Ellie inside the hall rather than outside. Kept expecting for him to show up and stop Ellie.

Ok, there's the violent Joel I was worried they wouldn't show us.

It looks like Joel is running around with an assault rifle. Odds on him going completely blood ragey like he did with the guard in Episode 1?!

And we had the guy who played Tommy in the game as the 2nd in command to the Melanie Lynsky character earlier in the season

i think it’s the first time I’ve ever seen Troy baker in a tv show/ movie but his voice is in hundreds of games

Currently playing part 2 for the first time and it's one of the first things I thought. It would be very difficult to translate this to TV

Where have you got to?
Game two would certainly be interesting for TV especially the reactions of people given the game thread

One thing I think they haven’t gotten as well as the game is the bond between Joel and Ellie. Hasn’t felt like enough time was dedicated to it.

Very early on in fairness. I'm in Seattle with Ellie and her squeeze. Trying to go through gates and shit!

The second game has undoubtedly the greatest bad guy ever; The Agendas.

Didn’t feel rushed at all. People are always underestimating how much time it takes to do very little in video games.

I mean the place was on fire. He would have just pulled her out of there to save her rather than comforting her.

We finally got it. I gotta save Bella has removed any doubts about her having the grit to pull off TloU2 as well.

Her name was Anita Sarkessian not the Agenda's! Never has one woman carried so much shit for something she had nothing to do with.

Part 2 is more like a spin-off than an actual sequel, sure they use Ellie again but her personality is so different that it could just as easily be a different person. It will be very hard to translate as you say.

Not that it mattered, but I actually thought Pedro’s reading of the “I believe him” line was played slightly more comic than in the game…. It still worked, but it lilted away from being proper dark.

Yeah, if anything it had a huge impact because Joel hasn't spent the last few hours smashing bricks over people's heads. Bella is bloody amazing too.

All she ever did was say that gaming had a problem with sexism, intentionally or not, and she was bombarded with sexism in return. It's fecking mad.

Yeah, you're right. It was a little jarring but like you say it still worked. I imagine his "you'll just come looking for her" in the final episode will be played a lot straighter, or I hope anyway...

Officially the best poker player on RAWK.

There was all sorts of madness going on, especially when certain "leaks" came out and the "agenda" nonsense started.

Bit like when Ingram Moses was asked about racism in the Star Wars fanbase, then got racist abuse and some people had the nerve to try to say "well she started it!"

Anyway I overall like what they've done with the show. I think the only way to have made it more loved from all angles would be a few more episodes (fleshing out the opposing characters and a bit more combat) and honestly it would have been nice, but then they always run the risk of doing a Walking Dead on it and having 90% filler. Some already think that about it, and it's a fraction of the length of those seasons

There's something I can't quite put my finger on about Pascal playing Joel that is slightly off for me. But I'm glad people have come round to Bella as a whole. I would like a few more of the quip interactions between them too, but obviously they've had a lot to cram in. But all in all I've enjoyed it. I do wonder if I would so much if I had played the game anytime recently though (only ever did it on original release, and even then got bored or the gameplay at times so played it in bits and pieces), but the Mrs has recently ran through them both again in prep for this and loves this version too so maybe I would.

I agree on Pedro as Joel, I don't wanna say weak link because he's been far from weak, but least convincing so far. I do think maybe its down to the writing and tamer take on the story we got in the first 7 episodes but also he's very soft spoken l too. I'd say a nitpick more than a criticism for me.

It’s probably because Troy Baker is absolutely insane as voice artist for Joel. Its quite difficult for anyone to say the same dialogue and do it better.

I had that start of the second game spoiled for me, very jealous of the people that will be going into that second season blind. Will be red wedding levels of shock factor.

Have to say it's tailed off the last few episodes. 3 looks like it'll be the peak

Inevitable really that one episode per game chapter (roughly) wouldn't be enough to make the things that happen in these episodes resonate in the same way.

Do you honestly think so? I think it’s only gotten better each week, with the exception of maybe the LeftBehind episode

Agree, the last few minutes of episode 8 was just gut wrenching. Bella is just phenomenal. The look on her face as she brutalized David was only surpassed by the emptiness that jumped off the screen as she stumbled outside. It really impacted me in a way so few movies/shows ever have.

Obviously I cant help but compare them with the game and how the relationships and characters got developed there, which then meant the big moments had a big impact.

The only part of the tv series thats really resonated was the one episode that was pretty much new material.

Im with you on this. I think its gotten better and better (except for ep7 as I think that dragged on too long given the flashback element)

The calm before the storm was needed in my opinion. But can understand why people didn't like it given it was a character development episode.

Enjoyed that episode. Was hoping they delivered it well as it’s one of my favourite parts in the game. I thought they portrayed David really well in it too which I had slight doubts over. Still prefer the game version of him. Maybe only slight downside albeit a very minor one was I had hoped with this episode they had the scene when Ellie & David double team together at the start to fight off the runners & clicker’s. That’s mainly been my major down part with the whole series in fact. Nowhere near enough encounters with the infected or moments of crazy ambushes by them.

Looking forward to the finale though. I wonder if they will stick close to the source material for it with a good strong finish.

I don't mind character development. Think they could have achieved the same thing in less time though.

I honestly think you cut it by half and you get the same outcome regarding Ellie's character
