Mounts a good player TBF. The price tag is the main issue.

He hasn't been playing much though, what happened?

He used to be Chelsea's best player for the most part
If he was a good player Chelsea wouldn't let him go would they? Considering he's homegrown and English.

Since when did Chelsea ever do things sensibly?

Chelsea fans seem to want him to stay from what I can see as well. That's usually a sign that he's not the issue at the club.

I think we might sign Rabiot to cover the deeper role tbf
Which makes a ton of sense. He's suited to those roles in our team and he's a good player. Free transfer - all the better.

I don't get what we do with Mount. Fernandes is a much better player, I don't think anybody would find argument with that.

So if we don't play him in Eriksen's position which doesn't seem to be his best role, are we going to have him off the wing sometimes? I'm scratching my head wondering what he upgrades except the squad. I can see him being a rotation option for some positions, I see him as a good bench player, I don't really see anything definitive that tells me he outcompetes what we have. It strengthens us in some ways but it's kind of a weird use of funds unless he comes very economically.

So many better options out there for less transfer fee. We got stung on AwB and Maguire by paying the english tax. Only England international players worth paying big money are probably Bellingham and Kane.

Honestly, I don't think I'll ever be able to get to a place where I can agree that Mount is the best option for us when we're going to be spending this sort of money. If it was a case of him being available for £30-40m I'd understand it, but if we're going to pay this sort of fee, it's always going to be worth paying an extra £20-30m to get a Rice or Caicedo imo. Anyway, I'm hoping that this isn't going to mess up our other deals too much, but I'm not expecting much improvement to our midfield considering it looks like we're getting Mount and Rabiot for those positions. Both good players but both worse players than Eriksen in terms of actual ability, while being better athletes.

Once he's officially a Utd player I'll support him and hope he proves me wrong

He’s English therefore giflord doesn’t rate him.

Lets be real here. We are buying him to press. Most of our midfield players can't do that to the required level that ETH wants.
Only Eriksen can't press in our midfield. Case and Bruno press constantly. Fred and McTominay are also good pressers, especially Fred. Rashford, Sancho and Martial don't press but they're all attackers.

They know he's been shit for a long time now and don't want to accept his wage demands - apparently he wants 250k a week.

Mount is not like Bruno, by the way. I don't understand people who think he'd be a Bruno back-up at all.
Well where in all honesty do you think he could play? He has spent his entire career pretty much as an attacking midfield player or coming off the left wing. We have 3 players minimum who start ahead of him on the left, Bruno is going to play 99% of games as our most attacking midfield player so you are relying on Mount becoming an 8 which is something he has never demonstrated the capacity for. If he was 25M and happy to be a backup then sure but he won't be.

I think it's more the uncertainty of him suiting the next manager. If tuchel were around I reckon he'd keep mount and have him renew.

They offered him a contract. He ain’t signing it. So how is it Chelsea letting him go? They would keep him if he wanted to stay.

It's weird as I thought he was out of contract. Spending 50m+ would be ... Something

Unless it's a case of sell mctominay or vdb for something like 30m and sign him for 40-50m
If we're paying 20m for an upgrade it makes sense and then doesn't affect other business

He has 100% played as an 8 before. I've seen him play there a few times over the years. Not sure whether I'd say it's his best position necessarily but he has demonstrated he can perform the role at least adequately.

This is the kind of player who'd be a decent back-up to Bruno and rotate when he needs rest instead of the likes of DvB and Sabitzer. I don't really mind Sabitzer, but he's on a crazy salary and I think Mount is easily the better player. If we still can afford our other more pressing needs and still afford £40m for Mount, I think it would be good business.
Personally, I would prefer Maddison but I can't imagine him coming here to sit on the bench.
I imagine Mount will want a crazy salary too if he is coming here, particularly if the fee is lower due to his contract situation. I think Madison would be a solid addition, allegedly he is a supporter and after the season he has just had he would probably take a job as kit man to get out of Leicester never mind being a squad player.

Name one thing Mount does better than McTominay? Being w@nking fodder for Frank Lampard does not count by the way. I would put Mount on the same level as Donny and frankly I would rather we buy Garner back from Everton than pay actual money for this over rated show pony.

Got to trust the manager if he wants him. What else can we do?

Don't think Mount is a bad player myself. I just don't want to get fleeced.

They have let Robben, Salah and KdB go too at early stage of their careers.
One of these is not like the others.

He went to Real Madrid. He chose to go there. Real Madrid.

Did Manchester United "let go" of Cristiano Ronaldo at the early stage of his career?

The bolded is why we should not be in this at all. If our standards are someone who is adequate in the position we need him for then we might as well sign Tielemans on a free as he is actually a number 8 with a far better track record in that role.

He would be a flexible squad option, run his nuts off, and has good technical ability, but not great.

Depending on price, I'd be okay with it, but feel like these type of signings should be reserved for the kid from Bristol or Lavia or players will similar levels but cheaper...and feck Chelsea.

Its the ornacle though :nervous:
It's more of an opinion that if we did bid as much as Liverpool, he'd choose us.

We're not splurging £50m+ on him, especially not when we're spending big on a ST, quoted €50m for Frimpong, need a CM and GK. Plus the fee for Min-jae, its not happening.

People saying he'd be a good squad option but if we spend that much on him then I suspect he'd simply be our starting #8 ahead of Eriksen in most games.

I will now convince myself he's a really good player.

He's a really good player.
