Who is the best striker option other than Kane/Osimhen?

He's definitely Irish, you know. I know the IFA has gotten a bit creative with things in the past but Evan Ferguson is from County Meath.
I know and mentioned. Generally Irish players are looked at as home players. To be honest most people in the world lump Ireland with UK.

Why are you trying to trip me here. I refuse to use Robbie Keane or Niall Quinn.

Feel like we're going to sign two players who can play center forward/striker. They don't have to be top class and really just have to be reliable availability, necessary technical ability, ability to score goals, and be an outlet/focal point up front to play off of.

With Martial running down his contract (and inability to really shift him off due to wages and injury record), he can stay for his final 12 months, fine.

Thuram, Benzema, etc. on a free and paying for a young player such as Hojlund or Ferguson who still needs to develop under coaches that we've seen improve individual players (Marcus, Sancho, AWB, etc.), would be smart.

Then next season, United would have more than 1 primary goal threat coming from the bench. Garnacho is a match winner and goal scorer. Sancho really isn't that final touch/goal scoring threat.

As someone who has had my run ins with the Irish community recently I would like to distance myself from the comments made by my fellow poster here. I myself fully respect the autonomy of Ireland and its people.

This however is fair.

I think we agree on a lot of things about Rooney and I’m not putting them on the same scale. Rooney happens to be the only British(Irish) we’ve invested in recently who is gone on to do great things, by default he is the reference point for any perceived homegrown talent. Just like Messi now or Maradona before him for Argentines, Gazza to Joe Cole, Rooney, etc. So if we sign a prodigious Ferguson or interested in him as a forward, our reference as fans to justify such a deal becomes Rooney.
Whether you think Ferguson is a prodigy or not and whether he is better developing in our environment or Brighton, it’s centred on a personal opinion. I believe he should be nabbed now and trained by ETH because he has tools that will make him an outstanding striker for us if developed right.
I disagree on during his time at Everton Rooney was raw and needed refining. This you already acknowledged and I don’t think that raw unrefined Rooney was better than most strikers already a staple at the top level. What you’re doing is not dissimilar to when people compare Sancho to Garnacho forgetting they are judged by different metrics and the things we over look for Garnacho, Sancho or Antony can never get away with. He was a brilliant talent for his age and experience, that’s where it stops and let’s not elevate it to the levels he grew into at United. I think you might not be remembering the strikers around at the time and their performances.
I'm not forgetting them, I've even referenced some of them from the Premier League but the reality is some of the more established goalscorers would not have been appropriate for us at that time due to already having RVN and Saha, and some of the more promising younger players were also more out and out goalscorers which clearly would not have been the best fit. If we were going to bring in an attainable attacking player in the league at that stage to compliment the players already in our squad it was always going to be Rooney, realistically the only players in the league that were doing some of the things he was were Henry and Owen at the time who were unattainable for obvious reasons. I'm not for one second suggesting he joined us as a ready made world class footballer because he had a lot of improving to do but he came in to make us a better team there and then, as such it's unfair to say he was solely signed as potential. If you sign a player solely for their potential you don't throw them in from the start as soon as they are available after a longterm injury, and they certainly don't end the season as one of the top four or five appearance makers despite not playing until October.

I understand your general point on Garnacho vs Antony/Sancho but that's not me for the record. If anything I'm probably harsher on Garnacho.

Benzema & Hojlund gives us a blend of proven experience and young potential. I would only take Thuram IF we could still get one of top two targets

Benzema for one year
Rodrigo from Leeds.
Doesn't feel like Leeds would loan us a player, but if Sancho gets sold,, I do think loaning in a veteran like Rodrigo, Vardy or Iheanacho makes sense for depth:

Strikers: Big Signing, Martial, Rodrigo/Iheanacho
Wingers: Rashford, Antony, Garnacho, Amad

would give us quality depth and options in attack. Pellistri on loan I guess, with Bruno as the the 3rd string RW, Rashford a 4th striker option and not sure who the 3rd LW option would be, probably Martial, but we need every non-Rashford minute available there to develop Garnacho anyways.

This was just an elaborate example of how young prodigies get matched up with established pro whilst overlooking all substandard issues.

Hojlund.

He is only 20, and he scored 15 goals and 7 assists in 2470 mins (equivalent to 27 games) this season.

Average 0.8 goal+assist per 90 min.

If include international:
20 goals 7 assist in 2650 mins (equivalent to 29 games)

Average 0.92 goal+assist per 90 min

Exactly, and Marcus can fill in as a CF if necessary, but over periods of weeks or months.

Thuram has lots of suitors, however I think United has been in discussions with him for over a year and we don't hear much noise about his next team.

Should be interesting and fun knowing United have CL, winning trophy with potential of 1 more, and coaches have shown ability to improve players and squad. And they know the type of attitude and mentality that is required.

Unfortunately can't see him coming here when you see that eye watering offer from Saudi no matter what Rapha & Casa say about life at Utd

Why loan Rodrigo? We should just buy him imo. 1 year left on his contract - cant be that expensive

The options are shite, let’s be honest. If he wasn’t banned I genuinely would have called for Toney.

Right, a small fee would make sense. My point is just that Martial has played alright but is too often hurt for us not to have a 3rd striker unless Ten Hag thinks Sancho can get back to Dortmund form and is comfortable with Rashford playing a lot of mintues upfront.

The best 3 options are:

Ramos. Underrated on here I think. He looks like a well-rounded and intelligent striker, experienced already at leading the line at a high level, good goal return, only 21. Problem is he'd cost Kane money, and he's not at that level.

Kolo Muani. An absolute handful, could be moulded into a dangerous weapon. Not convinced he's the reliable 25 goal central striker we need though, more of a Nuñez agent of chaos across the forward line.

Martinez. Suits the Ten Hag style, a warrior, technically very good, goals. Expensive.

Personally I'd avoid spending big money on Hojlund, have a feeling his top level isn't that high and he's certainly not ready to lead our attack next season.

I'd also avoid Benzema. Looked pretty obvious recently he's entering a decline now, and I think this squad does not need another aging superstar the others have to cover for and our tactics have to be adapted for.

I thought so too... and then I watched him. He's a slow Lukaku. Do not want.
He's about as fast as the other names thrown in here.....Kane, Benzema, Ferguson, etc....

None of who are speed merchants.

Besides, I'd argue we don't even need one.
What we need is a proper no. 9, someone who stretches the defense, makes physical pressure against them, and, scores fecking goals.

Ollie Watkins anybody? 2 years left on his contract, should be doable even though Villa will be reluctant.

Madrid is signing Joselu on loan after he scored 16 goals for Espanyol, Bayern did ok with Choupo Moting, surely there must be a midtable striker somewhere in top 4 European leagues who wouldn’t cost a bomb and score 12-15 league goals for us?

Vlahovic from Juventus. They can’t offer him CL and seem to have had a bad fallout. Seems big powerful and a good finisher

Seems to be at the top of Bayern’s striker list at the moment.

Yeah the good thing about Rodrigo is he'd be OK with being a bench player I think.

We should be looking at 4 options for striker with 3 of them being versatile/could cover other spots (Rashford, Martial, Rodrigo) so we don't need to resort to a Weghorst-striker again and so Rashford can play his natural/best position on the wing.

I'd take Watkins here if the fee is not insane. The thing is we can't possibly go wrong with any decent striker as we have almost no strikers available.

Kane would be great, but 80-100m for a player with 1 year left seems like bad business.

The time is better spent by pursuing a decent striker that can be backup/cover a wingspot after Kane comes, and then close that deal + convince Kane to come next year when his contract is up.

Benzema for a year and then reassess next season I think. Toney would be available again, Evan Ferguson would have had another year as the main man and Kane could well be available on a free. Seems likely Osimhen will move next summer too. It would also allow us to spend most of our budget on midfield (2 players), a right back and a GK.

I'm not averse to us doing something like this like what City did last year. Spend another year building the team and implimenting a style of play. Then next summer splash on a world class striker and hope they're the missing piece

Maybe Arnautovic might be an option. He still can score 15+ goals in the next season. He is a free agent, knows the league and has proven he can score. Old, but good enough for one season.
And next summer you can get Kane for free, or maybe somebody else. (Personally I am not fully convinced by Kane)

Getting Kane this summer is very expensive and the team overall is not good enough to play for the title. So I would rather spend less money on a world class midfielder, than for Kane.

Generally I dont see the striker, that covers the position for the next years, to be available at reasonable price this summer.

People saying these aren't great options but at the same time, pretty much all of them immediately improve us.

It's quite a low risk call in that sense. The tricky thing is identifying which of all the names mentioned has the biggest upside hidden within them.

2 Young strikers in Ramos and Hojlund. We could get both for what we pay for 30 year old Kane.

Actual realistic options that would work for us outside of Kane or Oshimen this summer.......In no particular order

1. Muani
2. Benzema with Kane on a free next summer
3. Hojlund
4. Ferguson

I'd be quite happy with any of the above.

I don't see Benfica selling Ramos as cheap as you'd initially think. Unless he has a clause, he could go for north of 80 millions

we sell Fred and get Mitrovic in? Mitrovic can get us 10-15 goals a season with good service from midfield. Seems a warrior type that ETH is looking for.

As much as I like Højlund, I don't think he's ready to lead the line every game in the Premier League. He isn't even a 100% starter for Atalanta yet.
I feel we need at least one experienced striker and a younger prospect. I'd probably go for Mehdi Taremi from Porto myself as the experienced one.

Mitrovic's main goal threat comes from his aieral ability and most of our players can't cross a ball. Also he's too much of a hot head for any top club to gamble on.

Evan Ferguson seems like the one.

We didn’t hesitate with a young Rooney, why hesitate with him?
Because he isn't as good as Rooney, and also he's just signed a new contract. No chance of him moving this summer.

Would prefer to see us take a chance on whichever younger striker we think has the most potential rather than settle for a relatively average CF like Mitrovic. Esepcially given his lack of mobility causes problems even for Fulham, let alone us.
