People talk as if we don't have a DM, but we do, actually, Ancelotti sure has done a good job making people forget that he is here though.

Tchouameni needs a consistent run of games next season.

Ancelotti basically did a pep and outsmarted himself with the rudiger and camavinga decisions.

The match felt like one of those moments in time in football when you realise time as finally caught up with one too many of these players.

I find it hard to believe that he has so much support.
Starting a season with a project you don't firmly believe it usually ends before Christmas.
There will be peace because something was won and there will be expensive signings, but as soon as they lose a big game or don't ride in the slipstream in la liga it will be bad vibes

Bayern took Tuchel off the market and there's no obvious upgrade around for Ancelotti, so we stick with him which is sensible. Just back him during the season and it should be fine

That's like keeping Juande after the 4-0 against Benitez's Liverpool and overlooking the failure in la liga.
He already had full support from club and press.
If there are no candidates we invent one.

I think Nagelsmann would be the perfect choice for Real to start a new cycle. He is a system driven modern type of a coach and most importantly he is well balanced in his ideas of how football should be played. Also he was wanted by Madrid before so its a no brainer. I am not buying this vote of confidence in Ancelotti. The moment he finishes third in La liga he would be gone.

Hardly. This is sticking with a manager who is liked by the team, won everything at the club including not 1 but 2 CL. We got demolished by one of best teams ever, playing the best game of their season(and the Guardiola era at City in general), it happens

We could repeat another season 15 points behind the leaders, repeating the "the 15th is coming" and still would be loved by the players (maybe too much) and by some of the press.
Even the fans! He's an endearing, good-natured man, who you can see, loves the club. Impossible to hate him.
But I only go by the numbers, I don't mind the level of the opponent or any other conditioning factors. 4-0 humiliated in Europe with a pasive approach and someone has to pay for it, the big defeats need consequences.
Continuing with numbers he has thrown away la liga, won a cup and a minor trophy, losing the other one.
More than enough to consider the cycle over and look for a new impetus.
If he continues it is not a drama but does he have a solution to compete in la liga? Does he have the guts to sit certain players? The plan is to roll the dice in May 2024?

Maybe he doesn't. The issue is there is no clear replacement right now. With Ancelotti we could expect to be competitive. If we're not he's gone, and maybe next year there will be a Klopp available, or maybe someone like Gallardo will have cut his teeth in europe and given a few more guarantees...

These kinds of gut reactions never work well for us anyways

I think deep down inside Florentino and co. know even though Ancelotti may have this faults this season, it was a matter of time to see the likes of Benzema, Modric, Kroos not sustaining the spine of the team anymore. Personally I was very surprised they could keep this level for such a long time.

These new circumstances mean improving the squad should be the main focus rather than the absolute need of a new coach if there is not a clear candidate in the market. Better the devil you know than the good you don't know.

In the golden years that was not entirely the case, the squad had one of the best three players in the world in pretty much every position. Today we can speak about Vinicius and Courtois being in that category. Perhaps Militao when on tune, which is not guaranteed anyway.

The dino board is too conservative to give the job to an untrustworthy coach.
Coach "x" could be free and they would be thinking about Raul/Arbeloa/Xabi/Mourinho/Zidane again.
Klopp has lost a bit of consideration. Fans like Naggelsman but I'd bet a high percentage of madridistas have no idea how he plays.
We may be competitive, but this year a Barcelona side with Xavi and in a historic institutional crisis have destroyed us in La Liga while in the Champions League they've fallen like a small team.
They should have signed a couple of full backs and a striker? Sure, but the plan this year, as Walker has said is to give Vinicius the ball

It reminds me of a case(there are many) that happened here in Coruña. Last year they played the play off for promotion, which they lost in the last game.
He was a young coach, very promising, a smooth talker and people also said "but if you sack him, who are you bringing in". In the end he stayed, but that didn't stop some of the fans and the board of directors from being worried, I think the modism is smelling a rat.
In the end, he was sacked in October and the season had to be rectified.
In short, It has to be accompanied by strong support, and not with Pedrerol and his list of coaches after three games.

Apparently Modrić played medicated and under heavy pain. So stupid from Carlo.

Read that too. He had two hernias and visited a famous doctor in Belgrade to get better from the injury.

He played unusually bad for his standards, at first I thought it was because of his age but now everything makes more sense.

Could you guys please keep Benz for another year and stay out of the striker hunt? It is already too crowded there. :nono:

are they about to have a genuine transition season

i think if Benzema goes they should go for Firmino for a year before Mbappe, they should let Modric go to, I'd be looking to keep Ceballos and Nacho though

The plan was Firmino as Benzema's backup. He can't be a starter, if Benzema leaves we will have to go hard after a Kane or Osimhen

I think Benzema, Modric and Kroos will retire / leave in 2024. I might cry :( What a generation.

Pretty much everyone but Marca had reported Benzema would leave, so I'm still taking this story with a grain of salt and assuming he's gone.

I've seen variations of this comment in various places. They drive me insane. What world do these people live in?

Barcelona will finish the season with a minimum of 88 points. That is a higher point tally than Real Madrid have had in the last five years, including the two title-winning seasons. If they win their last game, they'll finish the season with 91 points. That is a higher point tally than Real Madrid had had in all but two of the last ten years.

The objective, quantifiable reality is that Barcelona are a very good team and have had a very good season.

They have done very well, but we cannot base or justify our successes or failures on what others do.
If Barcelona are consistent and keep up the pace we will have to do the same.
Maybe the reason is the impossibility of fighting for la liga + champions, an advantage they had by being in Europa, we'll see next year

So, what do Madrid need now?

A striker definitely, an attacking midfielder which should be Bellingham, a right winger and a right back but those are unlikely.

All of Hazard, Mariano, Asensio and Benzema will leave.

Hence, many replacements in attack are needed.

Joselu and Brahim will be two of them, let's see who else Madrid will be targeting, but a couple of them should be starters or candidate for starters at least to complement both Vinicius and Rodrygo.

I was thinking about this last week. Madrid have gone stupidly big on potential by buying hundreds of millions worth of midfielders and have neglected the rest of the team in a way.
I can see you going for Mane or that Juve striker but it’s very last minute. A lot of other targets would have been approached by rivals months ago

The offer was too good and as the comunicado says he has earned the right to do what he wants.
Nacho's departure will probably be announced today. They are trying to get Vallejo to agree to leave and Mendy is for sale.
A fun summer ahead

Has Real Madrid ever had a purge like this one in modern times? Depending on who they bring in, this might be the biggest offseason for you guys since 2009?
