You don't know that it was the club that leaked the notification. And of course he's not obligated to extend his contract. But nor can he reasonably expect PSG to sit on their hands and wait for his contract to run out. If he doesn't want to extend, then he is engineering exactly the situation he claims not to seek - one where he must be sold this summer. Nor can he credibly claim to be happy at PSG - if he's happy, then why isn't he extending? Either he's just full of it, or he genuinely doesn't understand (or care about) the implications of his own actions.
He is not engineering anything. He’s fulfilling his contractual obligations. So there’s really nothing to criticise here. If PSG are pissed that they don’t receive a nice fee for him, that’s their loss and fault.

The information comes from PSG's mouthpiece and the article is literally written from the POV of PSG.

And someone can be happy to be somewhere and also want to try something else in the future. Unless you think that anyone that plans or think about doing something else in the future is unhappy with their current situation?

Also it was a binary situation he either triggered it or not, it's pretty strange to criticize someone for picking one of the two options possible. And he isn't surprised by PSG reaction, he responded to what he described as a lie from Le Parisien.

Oh come on, of course he is. He is creating a situation where he must know that a sale this summer is really the club's only option - unless they are prepared to try to oil him up even further than they already have.

That's the part that makes no sense, he didn't change his contract. PSG knew that the current end of his contract was 2024.

So basically he's trying to get out of a fixed price contract by saying he doesn't want to sign another one, what is wrong with that?

There is a way you reduce risk on both ends, PSG get their money, he gets out of the farmer league, I don't see the issue.

It’s not the clubs only option. The other option is for them to honour the contract they signed.
Don’t get me wrong, I understand where you are coming from and what Mbappe is likely trying to achieve. I just don’t believe there’s anything wrong with it. He has signed a contract, he intends to honour it. There’s nothing more you can ask from him.

And PSG should stop pretending to be upset about it. A club playing with unlimited funds should have no issue to find a replacement. And even if they do, that’s their own fault. If I spend all my money on greedy players who only join for money, I can’t expect loyalty. PSG are like a John who’s upset that no whore wants him after he pissed all his money away.

Even if we accept your logic and the article was influenced by PSG, you still don't know who told them the salient fact that he's not extending. It might just as well be the case that this came from Mbappes camp, that the journalist then contacted the club and that they decided to give their spin on it. You don't know.

Sorry to say the rest of your post is just strawman bullshit. No one is remotely criticising Mbappe for choosing not to extend with PSG. It's just that choice has consequences and implications.

PSG got some more playing time out of him before the WC and offered what they did to get him to stay that bit longer. It's crunch time again in the contract PSG accepted and offered, PSG could cash in and fill in Madrid's striker hole, keep him another season and lose out or try to convince him to stay again. These three options happen no matter what.

He has been their for 6 years, I don't think that loyalty should even be the point, most players don't stay that long in clubs. PSG knew the terms of the contract, Mbappé had to notify them before July 31st, he did.

He doesn't want to extend his current contract, and why would he? There's the potential to negotiate an even bigger deal with either PSG or another party. He's said PSG haven't offered him a new contract or open negotiations for one as of yet.

I expect the extension option was there to give him another year in the event of a bad injury. That's the only way I could ever see it making sense for him to execute an extension of current terms.

Well, if Mbappe is exactly what they deserve, what does that say about Mbappe?

Again your last paragraph makes no sense, Mbappé signed a contract that ended in 2024 and you are definitely criticizing him for not triggering an extension otherwise what is your point? PSG knew when the contract ended and they also knew when Mbappé was supposed to notify them. So unless you think that Mbappé had the obligation to trigger the extension clause, your points make no sense since PSG entered this offseason in the exact same situation than they currently are.

If they want to sell it's their choice which is based on a contractual agreement that they signed 13 months ago.

If this is still unclear to you, I'm happy to state yet another time that I'm not criticising Mbappe for not wanting to extend his contract.

A good yet greedy player who is playing the sheiks like a fiddle. While I don’t like him and probably would not want him at my club, I’m enjoying this very much and I hope he keeps it up.

That's exactly what you have done. You stated that his action put the club in a certain situation when his action don't change his contract.

Feels a bit like Pogback to me at the minute. We’ll pay exorbitant amounts, he’ll be hyped to kingdom come and will show flashes of his genius but will ultimately disappoint. Probably. Maybe. :wenger:
Unlikely as Mbappe has aspirations to be the best in the world(and most people would probably say he already Is the best in the world) unlike Pogba who cared more about his social media presence.

Seriously. Yes, he's perfectly within his rights not to continue at PSG, if he doesn't want to. But he can't talk as if this does not create a situation that more or less forces a sale this summer. Because frankly it obviously does, and to pretend otherwise, which he does in his statement, is just bullshit. That's all.

Landing Mbappe could be a modern Henry vs Ruud situation except this time United would have the more talented player.

Madrid is the only club he has been linked to since he joined PSG. I don't recall any rumours about another club. It does feel like if/when he leaves, it will be for Madrid and nowhere else.

He did reject them a few times but he had good reasons to do so on at least two occasions: going to PSG after Monaco for a 19-year-old who grew up in the area was a logical move, and last year, staying meant he would become PSG's all-time top scorer and the world's highest-paid athlete.

That being said, I don't believe he dreams about Madrid anymore. He's too big for that now. I mean, he's bigger than PSG and his national team and he knows Madrid need him as much as he needs them. I wouldn't even put it past him to suprise everyone and sign for another club. Few players would have turned them down at the last minute like he did last season, although I think it was a mistake.
That's the only point that I made. The point was in response to a post about him pushing for a move to Real Madrid if he joined United. Mbappé's action demonstrate that he wouldn't automatically chose Real Madrid.

The guy is a generational talent. In overall game he is above Haaland. Put Haaland in that PSG team he doesn't do any better. Mbappe has proved himself on the highest stage.

There is nothing wrong with what he is doing, footballers have short careers, why not maximize his earnings if his current owners are willing to pay it.

He has also probably realised even with Messi and Neymar they couldn't win the Champions League, that will now only diminish. Time to put in the ground work to engineer his next move and it's respectful giving your current employers 12 months notice. They can sell now or lose him for free in 1 year.

His statement is in response to Le Parisien claiming that handed a transfer request, which he said is a lie and that he intends to fulfill his contract.

And he didn't create any situation, the contract that PSG offered him in 2022 ends in 2024, so unless you want to make the point that he created the situation and that PSG didn't then your point makes no sense. PSG started the season with Mbappé being in the last year of his contract come summer 2023.

To make it simple, you are swallowing PSG's PR.

The Qataris have to be thinking about keeping Mbappe within their brand structure if they complete the takeover. Mbappe's brand is huge, he has the potential globally to rocket the brand of Qatar and United even more.

This is a once in generation signing, we have to fight to the very end for his signature. The return of Championship League football couldn't have come at a better time.

Give him the number 7 shirt.

Pretty grim for PSG this. They’ll be losing Messi, Mbappe and possibly Neymar. They have spent an absolute fortune and I’m struggling to think of any positives for them given the state of the rest of the squad, which they neglected whilst they were pandering to the big three.

Can't argue with that. The boy is a special talent.

Didn't you hear? The Qataris might have found themselves a new sport washing project with greater global appeal.

If we do land M'bappe there has to be some trickery involved.

choice between United or Madrid....he would choose Madrid clearly

even after spending 100m on Jude, i'm sure they'd have no issue dropping another 150m on Mbappe if necessary

Our new owners will want a Director of Football and expertise seated on the board. Madrid won't offer him that.

Very true but even with Qatar ownership we are still massive underdogs for him against Real. Having said that I don't think he's totally ruled us out as suggested by Romain Molina earlier
I agree, but this is on the hypothetical assumption where we actually have a chance to get Mbappe. Turning him down is nuts.

I think this narrative is a bit tiresome. I think it's simply the case of Pogba not being as good as was hoped or expected, injury and tactical problems to add too. Pogba was very good at Juventus and France but it's fair to say what we've seen of Mbappe at PSG, France and Monaco is a player on a much higher level.

I think it's the part where he insists he wants to play at PSG next season.

I assume you mean it will be Mbappe vs Haaland? I’d say Haalands a better goalscorer and finisher but Mbappe is probably the better all round player.

Yeah the president would call him to stay  Who believes this shit?
Wasn’t that reported at the time? There were jokes about a state asking a player to stay at club owned by a different state being the low point of football.
