Reminds me of the Ole situation where Woodward jumped the gun after the PSG game and we ended the season horrendously. There was no way Ole would've been appointed permanently had the decision been left to the end of the season. And Woodward, incompetent as he was, could never take that decision to sack Ole and appoint someone he thought could do better.
Hence, even if its wrong, respect Bournemouth owners for at least taking ownership of the future when O'Neil would've been the perfectly safe option. Very harsh on O'Neil though, feel really sorry for him. Hope he gets a chance to prove Bournemouth wrong.

I'm sure O'Neill isn't the only fella in football that can have a good bash at not getting relegated. It will depend on transfers as it always does.
It looks to me like they've taken a pretty cold, calculated view that as good as he did, they've got somebody better coming in. Which is a big decision they'll have to stand behind depending on the outcome.
It's nothing short of a miracle that squad survived last season, O'Neill was the driving force behind it. Would have them down to finish in the bottom 3 for sure now.
Same as when they gave Jose the new contract before Christmas.

I always find it funny how many fans of elite clubs moan about pointless clubs in this league then pull the "what do they expect?" line when said 'pointless' club try to better themselves.
I wouldn't call it a miracle, there are always a handful of squads that are shite so it's a case of not being the most shite, which isn't a miracle I don't think. Evidently it wasn't a worse squad than the ones that went down. It was a good job he did though.
As a more general point It looks to me like they're the kind of decision makers that like to get out ahead of things rather than sit on their hands. They obviously don't rate him to build them up, which is probably a slightly different job to simply being tasked with avoiding relegation.
Either that or they simply think there's a better , more accomplished manager that wants to be Bournemouth manager. We're quite happy when clubs turf out players as soon as someone better is identified but suddenly when it's a manager - cue faux outrage. They've put themselves on the chopping block with this one so I admire that they take a risk in truth.
For both Ole and Jose, there were multiple occasions prior to their new contracts that they should've been fired or at the very least, not been extended. Hence, we're now seeing the real cost of Woodward's cowardice as the FFP chickens have come home to roost.
I remember people were baffled when Southampton sacked Adkins for some chancer caller Mauricio Pochettino. Didn’t turn out too badly for them.

This makes sense to give themselves the best chance of getting a more experienced person in from the start. It doesn't always work out, but that seems to be the logic. They'll probably be looking for a new manager by Christmas anyway.
This must have come as quite a shock to O'Neil. When he got told the chairman wanted to see him, he must have thought that they were going to offer him a vastly improved contract. Awkward conversation that.

Eh i get it. He did well to keep them up but I'd say the only real thing he did there was give them good vibes which doesn't tend to stay in for long, so it's not a bad idea to make plans to improve and start that with a manager who does more than vibes and rely on variance.

I agree. I don’t think he was a sustainable option and this is perhaps a decision they’d rather make now than during October international break.
