NBA 2023-2024

I'd imagine you could make a better offer than the Clippers, who are short on picks and have no real players to offer (I know the Timberwolves gave up a lot of assets last year but still have Towns and some other pieces), but New Orleans surely can make the best offer from those teams given the draft capital and young players, potentially including even Zion, that they could offer.

Based on what the Blazers may need the Wolves seem to have the most to offer with the Celtics. If i'm not mistaken they wan't youngish forward talent and I would assume picks. The Celtics can offer both while the Wolves can offer the better player alongside a pretty good prospect like Minott. The part that I don't understand is where Conley lands?

But that part isn't even that important, this indicates that KAT or Gobert are trade pieces for the front office. They are the two contracts that allow any deal.

The Wolves are allegedly among the teams inquiring about Lillard. I wonder what the offer would be.

Probably Towns. If you hadn’t traded for Gobert last year that deal would have easily got you Dame.

Miami are probably working with OKC to unprotect the pick they owe to them and move it to 2026 so they can offer us 3 first round picks and more swaps. They are trying to send Herro to Nets, that might be another pick for us and cap relief.

Bill Simmons yesterday proposed Towns for Lillard with Portland adding picks and swaps. Found it quite amusing to think that we would be the ones adding assets to make that trade when nobody would even take it straight up.

I really don’t see dame going anywhere but the heat. which sucks because their picks aren’t the best value in terms of returns.
Yeah me neither. The franchise has felt hugely indebted to Dame for years and even though the noises are that we are focused on getting the best deal, we will cave in once more and accept whatever package Heat can muster.

I just hope they remove protections from the pick they owe to OKC and move it to either 2024 or 2026, so they can give us three firsts instead of two, and somehow include Jaquez in the deal too. Herro I think will maybe get them a projected late first from somewhere like Nets or Pelicans. Duncan Robinson is unfortunately negative value. It's going to be a horrible return, not even remotely comparable to what Jazz got for Mitchell and Gobert, or any of the star trades from the last 5-6 years at all, but at this point I'm just prepared to get whatever and move on.

If I was the Wolves I wouldn't want to add anything on KAT, both players contracts are less than ideal but KAT is 6 years younger. If the Wolves need to add prospects(or a good role player) and picks then the Heat are welcome to get him.

it must suck to be in cronin’s place. people already hate you for not building a team for dame. now if you trade him for peanuts the fans will be at your throat but if you don’t trade him the entire media will blame him and the organization for not doing right by dame. this guy just cannot catch a break.

Yeah Portland would be dumb to take that deal without any further incentives. Regardless of age difference they're levels apart as players.

I reckon when the dust settles after the move he will be able to breathe a sigh of relief, for the last couple of years Dame's presence has been more of a nuisance than anything IMO. The constant begging for a big move that just wasn't out there, we almost traded Sharpe, Simons and further assets for OG last year, almost traded Scoot for Siakam/Zion this season, it was just all based under false premise that we were 1-2 pieces away. The worst was moving picks for Covington and Nance at the time when basically any player we would have drafted at the time would be a bigger contributor now, and possibly even during those years (which would not have been hard considering we got next to nothing from either of them).

That's also why I don't want any win-now moves currently, I just want young players and future assets, and to let Scoot and Sharpe play. We will suck this season, probably win 25 games or less, but it'll be way more fun than the purgatory we'd been in for years. It's probably the season I'm looking forward to the most in the last 5 years.

Which is fine, I hope you get what you want or need. But that deal would be terrible for the Wolves when it comes to team building and asset management especially in the context of building for Ant.

Wolves are not in win-now mode anyway. You add Lillard to Gobert and Edwards, that's probably still like a second round exit, and Ant just got a hefty contract. I think the idea should be to build around him for 2-4 years into the future, not try to win immediately.

the thing is, while I fully agree with you, but if you take blazers history as an organization, we have always been stuck in this same position or worse. it was the same when lma left us high and dry. if you think about it we never signed a decent pf or center since then. blazers as an organizer are the perfect combination of bad luck and dog-shit decision-making. yes, we got lucky with scoot falling to us. but we also were lucky to have dame for this long and we did feck all to help him win. so I am just a bit weary about our future. it also sucks that after tanking for two seasons, we are going to be mediocre again for the foreseeable future. but I guess that’ll pass once we see scoot and shaedon linking up together.

That's what I think and why I wouldn't trade KAT plus assets for Lillard. I don't mind selling KAT "low" but it has to be for either picks or prospects that fit the team, basically a starting PF and/or primary ball handler that are around Ant's age.

Any news on the Mavs roster moves after the decision to sign Irving?

I feel 2023 is the turning point Mavs fans will look back to as the reason they eventually lost Doncic. I just can't see him sticking around like Dirk when year after year they're gonna struggle to get past the first round.

He’s pretty good. Athletic as feck. Loves a crazy dunk. He had a great understanding with Sengun, I’d bet half of KJM’s points last season were from Sengun assists.

Yeah I’m sure the Rockets would be all over this trade

Harden to Clippers stories mounting now.

The guy is shameless.

Portland would be smart to take up Minnesota on a Towns offer if one materializes. Dame and Nurkic for Towns and Conley and some pick swaps is way better than the shite Miami has.

Can Herro be used as the primary ball handler in a good starting 5?

No imo. His ball handling abilities are really not that great, nor is his passing. He is also at times somewhat timid in the way he plays (if he is in a shooting slump, the rest of his game suffers as well).

Think he has room to improve and to become less reliant on his shooting, but I don't think he is best suited to such role.

Dame’s agent calling teams around the league asking them to not make offers because Dame only wants Miami is quite cheeky. He can go from hero to villain quite quickly… or just from hero to Herro.

I feel bad for the Blazers and I'm losing a lot of respect for Lillard. At the very least his agent should call all teams and try to find a serie of deals that suits his client and can send him to Miami but the strategy that they are seemingly using through the press and behind the scene is to basically guilt trip the Blazers into making a deal that will hurt them.

The silly part though is when people pretend that the Blazers will be punished by future FAs or their current players if they don't trade Lillard to Miami. The Blazers aren't a FA destination in the first place and how will the current players react to their team not taking the best offers when it is going to have an impact on their careers in that franchise?

just announce it already. I don’t even care about us getting fleeced.

Yeah I don't care about the way free agents perceive us, nobody is joining us anyway and us doing what every other team would do is not going to matter either.

Or maybe we should just try to keep him and offer Sharpe, Simons, Scoot and five unprotected firsts plus 30% on all Moda Center revenue for OG.

I thought that I wouldn't care but now I'm invested in the Blazers not getting fleeced.

We will 100% get fleeced. I won't be surprised if Miami present us a reduced offer, like Lowry, Robinson and two protected firsts, after we've lost all the leverage. I want this to be over.

It's depressing especially when you consider that the Heat can only trade their 2028 and 2030 first round picks. NBA teams can't have two consecutive drafts without first round picks.

good chance those picks are going to be late frps. just tells you the kind of terrible assets we will be getting from this trade.

In 2028 and 2030 Butler and Dame will be long retired, the 2030 pick may be a later pick but that 2028 pick looks perfect for this team aging out and Miami suffering a couple down years like they seem to do.

The issue is that their reload is more likely to happen around 2026-2027 based on Burtler and Lillard contracts and age. I actually think that Riley and Spoelstra are setting a nice trap, even if you take those picks you should get rid of them before 2025, as an example to climb in the draft. Otherwise you are gambling on the Heat not knowing exactly when their stars contracts and what age they have. It's the Heats not the Timberwolves.

True, depending on how those draft classes are shaping up then that could be the move. However Portland may be in a position where two extra instances of 4 cost controlled years could be pretty vital.

He’s done more than enough for Portland. He owes them nothing. He deserves to get his wish.

let’s hope that actually happens. heat have missed the play offs just six times in the past 28 years. I really wish the nets or any other team would be on dame’s list.

Watching this Dame situation unfold, I feel pretty lucky Harden was cool with going to a team that were flush with assets. I’d be sick to my stomach if he forced us to accept that Philly package that included Ben Simmons and some garbage picks.
