Onto the group stages!

Group 1:
Dark
South Park
The Shield
Star Trek: The Next Generation
The Americans

Group 2:
Parks & Recreation
Better Call Saul
The Wire
Chernobyl
X-Files

Here's how it will work:

Each group has 5 TV shows selected at random.

List your top 5 from each group (1st = 5 points, 2nd = 4 points, 3rd = 3 points, 4th = 2 points, 5th = 1 point).

You do not have to vote 5 shows. If you don't vote 5 shows, the scoring will be adjusted to reflect this. For example, if you only list 3 shows, the scoring will be (1st = 3 points, 2nd = 2 points, 3rd = 1 point).

The top 2 will automatically make the finals.

3rd place will go into the knockouts round as a top seed, starting with +5 points.

4th place will go into the knockouts round as a bottom seed starting with 0 points.

5th place will be eliminated.

The rounds are below (BOLDED IS THE CURRENT ROUND FOR THIS THREAD):

Round 1 - Free For All
Round 2 - Group Stage 1 & 2
Round 3 - Group Stage 3 & 4
Round 4 - Group Stage 5 & 6
Round 5 - Group Stage 7 & 8
Round 6 - Group Stage 9 & 10
Round 7 - Knockouts
Round 8 - The Finals

Each Monday, I will set up a new round for the contest and the voting closes at 11.59pm Friday (PLEASE stick to this, don't make me miss out on time with my children on the weekends  ).

At the opening post of each round, I will put in the results from the previous round and start the voting of the current round.

In the event of a tie, I will first refer to how many picks they got in the first round then if still a tie, I will refer to their iMDB scores.

If you have voted, then want to change your vote, please quote your old post and write your new list and let me know by tagging me, otherwise I may miss your vote by accident.

Remember, I have 2 kids and a full time job so there may be times where I miss deadlines or post later than anticipated. Apologies in advance.

I hope this is fun and you guys enjoy it :D

I did think this exact thing but have to keep it fair and impartial. But even with 5 amazing shows in group 2, there's still a chance that 4 of them will make the finals and only 2 from group 1 may make the finals.

On the eliminated shows: I can't believe that Malcolm In The Middle, The IT Crowd and Mindhunter didn't make the top 50! Boooooo!

I can only vote for the shows that I have seen at least one season of so...

Group 1:
1. Dark
2. South Park

Group 2:
1. The Wire
2. Better Call Saul
3. Chernobyl

Group 2 is brutal but I expect these 3 to make it through anyways.

If The Dutch national team were in this competition they would definitely have ended up in group 2.

I havent watched even 5 shows in total from Group 1 & 2. How the feck is someone to rate them?
Just whatever you've seen enough of to make an informed list. See my first reply, I only voted from the shows I've seen at least a season of. These had plenty votes in the opening round so there should be a fair spread by the end.

Do what everyone does on the internet. Read 2 lines on their Wikipedia page and form an aggressively worded opinion on them and defend it passionately against all comers.

If I wanted to do that I would participate in football drafts and eventually end up doing a Tuppet

Frasier losing out is a damning indictment of this whole forum. You all should hang your heads in shame.

Randomizing the groups was a strange call. Should have been some kind of seeding system, even if it was rudimentary like RT score or even IMDB score. As it stands these look like very weak groups.

Parks & Rec is amazing, very sad to see it in a tough group and also even bottom of some people's lists.

It's been a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. In the gaming version of this a couple of years back, people wanted RNG/KO bits so it's not as predictable so I introduced that in last year's movies contest and again this year but I think people are starting to see that it's maybe not such a good idea. Think I will remove it for next year's music contest and see how that goes.

With that said, there's a chance 4 shows from one group can get through so all the best shows should in theory make the final.
