@massi83 I didn't even consider tactical voting as this is purely for fun but I see what you're saying.

I'm leaning to averaging out the non voted shows, so in the example I put about it would be:

The Wire 5
Chernobyl 4
X-Files 3
Parks & Recreation 2
Better Call Saul 2

I'll see what others suggest but this is probably a good compromise.
Yup. Average in this case would be 1,5 for the last 2 though.

So, only 1 option voted: 5, 2.5, 2.5, 2.5, 2.5
Only 2 options voted: 5,4,2,2,2
Only 3 options voted: 5,4,3, 1.5, 1.5
Only 4 options voted: 5,4,3,2,1

But you can round them if it is easier, close enough.

That seems fine to me. Could also be 1 point instead of 2 in that example. Just to avoid the more niche shows sweeping up plenty of points by the ones who haven't seen it and getting top scores from the ones who voted the show through.

Even discounting tactical voting, there are bound to be some posters who don't know that they are allowed to leave blank spaces but would have done so if they knew it.

I didn't know omitting shows was allowed. Can I simply edit my list or what's the procedure?

I also think that it would be wildly unfair if, for example, philistine nerds with nothing but Star Trek on their list drag down all the other shows in the group with 0 points, while others try to rank all of them and as a result impair their top votes.

Don't want to do half points so I think 2 for non-voted shows makes sense in any iteration of rankings bar someone ranking 4 shows, in which case, the non-ranked show gets 1.

Whatever way I do it, people can always tactically vote but they'd have to be tallying the votes in other to do it accurately... In which case, PM me the tallies so I can chill on Monday morning

Screw the ones people dont vote for.

Zero the feckers

Or split the difference and just give 1 point to any that dont get votes

No I have mentioned above how I can try get round this. It's not a perfect solution but I can't think of anything fairer.

But yeah, no point voting for a show of you haven't seen it. I can't separate Star Trek from The Americans because I've seen neither.

I hoped people would just be honest with their voting but this doesn't seem the case

So anything that doesn't get a vote automatically gets 2 points (unless it's in a list that the other 4 shows get votes, then it will get 1 point).

You can just edit your vote as I haven't started tallying yet.

That was the original plan but I don't want a thread full of complaining.

Like I said earlier, I didn't consider tactical voting and thought people will just be honest. I'm an idiot

If people havent seen a tv show why does it deserve 2 points.

It's actually crazy to give a show twice as many points for not getting any vote as one that's ranked 5th.

But like someone said, if a load of Star Trek nerds come in who've not broadened their horizons why should those other shows suffer and all get zero while a soap in space gobbles up the 5s.

It doesn't, but this thread has already proved that people can't be trusted  If tactical voting is a thing then it might actually be necessary.

I don't know :nervous:

Nah, this was the original thinking, but as a few mentioned above, if they don't get something, people will just tactically vote for 1 or 2 shows even if they seen the others just to get their shows through...

Didn't even think of that. People will add shows in they've not seen to make sure they don't get 2 points

I'm not going to change my list and be completely honest for the integrity of the contest.

I'm pretty sure there's a law that says "The Wire" automatically wins any tv show rankings anywhere on the internet. Hopefully we're all law abiding citizens.

I think all 15 shows I had was binned so I'm selling all my votes to the highest bidder.

I knew there was a reason I despised you.
Just going on personal enjoyment. I could have given the imdb approved ranking but what's the point of voting the way everyone thinks you should vote.

I'd be surprised if The Wire doesn't go into late stages
