That is what I said as an example. We also have a statue of George Best outside our stadium. Eric Cantona jumped into the crowd and has sarcastically said the since "the only thing I regret is not killing him."

I firmly believe that this culture of binning people off is wrong. I think you have to get to the root of the issues at hand. I have family members who have suffered with anxiety that leads to anger issues and we have confronted it and seeked help the best we can.

I think the club should have gone down the rehabilitation route with this case and used that line a lot more and a lot sooner. As I said an outside barrister and professionals could have assisted with this in terms of making the club look like they are professionally investigating the matter a more objective manner.
Weird lie to back up your wrong viewpoint.

This is a big thing for me. You have some outlets saying his contract has been released, yet some say it hasn't. The whole situation at this point is so unclear we don't know is he for sale, loan, or even under contract as things stand. It is ludicrous what the club has done with this statement/situation.

If the investigation has found him not guilty, what grounds would they have to terminate his contract?
Maybe the club should have kept him and damned if they do damned if they don’t

The club statement says that we will work with MG to re-commence his career away from Old Trafford. We therefore haven’t released him and continue to pay his wages.

It does leave open whether he will be loaned for the remainder of his contract or will directly join another club but, presumably, that’s because we don’t yet know what other clubs are going to propose.

I don’t see the club can be criticised for that element of the statement.

What happens if we are unable to find an agreement with any club over a sale before the window closes?

I'd expect we are going to be lowballed due to the circumstances so what if the offers are so derogatory that the club does accept them?

Will be be treated as any other player still, be available for selection etc until January?

His talent is probably long gone, I'd be amazed if he came back to a good level. Also, was too slow for the very top level anyway.
I really liked this kid and followed him in his last year's in the youth team. When he broke up in that first season it really looked like he could be a generational talent.
But then the second season came and "second season syndrome" which for me is only another way of saying, "yeah he's not a goat level".
I don't remember Messi, Ronaldo 9, Ronaldinho, Cristiano, or whoever is a player in contention for a balloon D'or to have a bad second season. Nor Mbappe nor Haaland had it.
Then his third season was in the same level as the second, so no improvement in those 18 months.

Now, outside of the football area, this kid had some real problems and they started way before this. Norway, the daddy's D video... he had too much fame too young, and the guidance was really poor.

Guy hasn't played or trained in a first team environment for like 18 months. No serious club is bidding decent money - especially with United pretty much not having room for negotiation. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go for free or close to it - but more likely a loan is what I expect

Losing another top talent for free would be gutting especially in our dire financial situation

A loan is the best solution as it provides the Club with some options before his contract runs out in 2025.

Quality control
Be great to see him in a really well coached side surrounded by quality players.

I’d be fascinated to see how he’d develop at Real or Barca.
At Real he would became a super star and win a lot of trophies.

At UEFAlona he will learn to dive, cheat, cry and buy referees.

I wonder if those calling for masons sacking have given any thought to his partner and child, i find it perverse when I hear Andy Mitten saying he hopes he is allowed to continue his career elsewhere and learn by his mistakes, If this guy is the ogre some make him out to be how do you think that will impact on them. Personally I think he's already learnt his lesson, and the only people that are likely to be affected but this are his family.

You need to find some better outlets, the statement is quite explicit in saying that he hasn't been released

The masses’ desire to be judge, jury and executioner to another human being is a result of disempowerment in the era of financial capital. To be disempowered is to lose self-determination, and to want to make up for it by wreaking revenge on another.

To all those of you who have mob-judged Mason, despite the state refusing to do so, you are taking advantage of easy social approbation enhanced by new social media.

I have been a devout fan since 1977 and have remained one through this awful Glazer era. However, by treating Mason so unfairly, United has gone too far by not being what they are, a football club, not an instrument for woke mob rule.

Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. If one of ours, a young black man and his family,, cannot be treated fairly and with humanity then there is no us. I am not, no longer, a fan.

Bye Felicia. He should be thankful he's not in prison.

Yeh, getting back to the level required is going to take months and there are no guarantees he even will.

As he's still young, there is value in his potential so I can't see the club allowing him to go for next to nothing.

I know part of the reason the charges were dropped was that a key witness (most likely the victim) refused to cooperate, but it also was said "new material came to light". Feels like that part is ususally ignored, but I wonder if that's the reason the club believes he didn't do it.

Yeah I worry for the girl who's probably gonna get beat on again seeing how she has practically ruined his career by exposing him.

Have a bad feeling this won't be the last DV incident regarding greenwood.

He’s left by mutual consent. No sale or loan, he’s effectively been sacked.

Thats not what it says in the United press release, he has not been sacked United say it was mutually agreed he should continue his career else where and that they will work with him to achieve that, no where does it say he will LEAVE BY MUTUAL CONSENT in law as an academy graduate United are entitled to compensation from who ever he sign's for.

So many people defending MG.... Good lord....

It's football, many things are more important than football.

The world is a terrible place isn't it?

The only sin these cringey cnuts won't forgive is being shit at football other than that anything can be explained especially if you're as good a player as greenwood.

They aint terminating the contract. That would be a law suit waiting to happen. He is paid and told to stay away until he gets a loan move or he's transferred out

Genuinely one of the worst posts on the forum.. but not surprised.

Tries to seem intelligent with the use of such phrases as the "era of financial capital" and "To be disempowered is to lose self-determination" in order to try and confuse you and grant the illusion that the post has any depth. Hangs over your head the fact they've been a fan since 1977 and are therefore more qualified and superior to the new social media born fan. Then brings up eloquent right wing phrases like "woke mob rule" to talk about how good you had it back in your day. Then tops it all off by bringing in the race (??) of the player which has absolutely nothing to do with this case whatsoever.

Cannot be treated fairly and with humanity? Are you taking the f'ing piss or what? Woe is me Mason Greenwood should have thought twice before being a disgusting piece of shit, convicted or not. Please listen to the audio again. Mason Greenwood has not been treated 'unfairly' the fact that you even think so speaks volumes about you and your relationships in real life, I dread to think.

Manchester United are a Football Club as you say, regardless of how poorly they handled this situation they made the right choice by getting rid of this absolute shit show circus which would have been a dark cloud hanging over this club for many years to come, and for what? A 21 year old with a little bit of talent that's almost done nothing for this club. I absolutely have no idea why people like you get so attached to players like this. Are you a fan of the football club, or individual players?

The 'State' refused to do anything because it was pretty much a case not possible to pursue once the key witness refused to testify, which conveniently came after Greenwood broke the law and broke his bail conditions by visiting the victim, what a coincidence huh.

This isn't 'woke mob rule' it's the fact we are living in an age where actions have consequences and people are making sure those consequences are actually put in place because for too many years vile people like Mason Greenwood have been getting away with it. Just reading this post makes me realise further why people don't come forward with abuse cases, and why abusers are barely ever convicted.

A massive "Back in my day" post full of shit, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

 That's the thing isn't it. They're going to bat for a 21 year old that showed a glimpse of talent who has barely done anything for this club because he's 'Starboy'. God forbid this was Harry Maguire though, they'd be foaming at the mouth to condemn him asap

 spot on. His post gives major Jordan Peterson horseshit vibes

We probably made the correct decision but it humours me that there's no murmur at all from anyone about a certain Arsenal player even though there's evidence online about his extracurricular activities.
Can you dm me this please.

Forget Maguire. We had a poll on the Caf and 85% wanted to get rid off Rashford. We also had an initial poll a couple of months ago on Greenwood and 50% wanted his return.

Yeah I worry for the girl who's probably gonna get beat on again seeing how she has practically ruined his career by exposing him.

This and the other similar takes posted earlier as as bad as any.

Maguire was actually convicted of an offence. Which is legally worse. For consistency, he should have been given the same treatment actually. And kicked out of the club.

What would have been funny is if Greenwood were allowed to come back and play. Wonder how some of his defenders would have reacted if things didn't go well.

Say he went for a string of five games without scoring, looking shit in general and getting abused by all fans in the stadium. Maybe half the team doesn't even walk with Greenwood when he steps out. When the likes of Bruno or Cas put an arm around MG's shoulder when he's close to tears - they start getting booed themselves. Maybe next game someone leaves a leg breaker on MG, and he's out for half a season - and the assailant gets a hero's applause and gets away with just a red for three games for it.

Our results are shit, we can't score goals, we lose to everyone and Greenwood doesn't look like he can play in the Championship, never mind the PL. And all our negativity seems to be focused on him.

If we had a poll then, 'Was it a good idea to let MG back?', I'd bet all my net worth that most of the folks defending him now will be baying moral high ground to get rid.

Google it. It's literally every outlet bar espn.

They said mutual termination. You are right though, it is a damned if you do damned if you don't situation.

There's just a lack of clarity. That could be the fault of news outlets though as most of them are saying we have terminated his contract.

By the same metric though. What would the people who are playing moral high ground say if he came out and scored a hattrick against City or Liverpool? I bet they would change their tune as well.

Where do you want me to start? Club Size? History? The fact that Manchester United should hold itself to a higher standard then other clubs? Sponsor Pressure? Media? The fact that we're a worldwide brand?

Playing football for Manchester United is obviously quite different then playing football for say, Torino in Serie A

Club size? - what does the size of the club have to do with it? As if bad men can only play for small to medium-sized clubs. If he goes to one of those smaller clubs and absolutely does the business what happens then? You seem to think that a big club wouldn’t come in for him. The reality is that they will.

History? - Of United being a club who everyone loves because their players are the perfect gentlemen? Possibly at some points but the reality is we’ve often not been that nice a club and have had a lot of players who were pretty dodgy but winners on the pitch.

The fact that MU should hold itself to a higher standard than other clubs? - I wish it did in football matters. Off the pitch? Player behavior wise? We’ve had plenty of bad ones. You could also argue that rehabilitating a young man who’s made a massive transgression is a good thing to do.

Sponsor pressure? - Sponsorship will look after itself if/when we sort the football out. It’s hardly something for fans to worry to much about.

Media? - Yes, they’ve got what they wanted here. We should have ridden it out. There’ll be other stories all the time. It would have blown over in time. SAF would not have given a feck what The Athletic’s view was.

Worldwide brand? - Our “brand” will be better when we sort the football out and this isn’t as big news worldwide as it is in the UK.

We’ve fecked up letting Greenwood go because we were weak. He’s done wrong but we could have helped him become a better man, and he would have scored hatfuls for us.
