I get what your saying however the game is changing massively in the last 3 years. Players are playing more games at higher intensity and are soon to have a new club World Cup. Five in games subs will soon be 6 or 7 and 9 named substitutes will soon be 11 or 12 . If the club starts playing 65-70 games and you play 8-15 games for your country then having two players for each position where they both play 35-45 games a season is actually the way forward to progress the game.
There's a lot of truth in what you say and I agree with lots of your post. However, I don't think it will really work in the sense of both players in each key position splitting their time 50/50. It will most definitely be a first choice + a rotational option or two, in my opinion. No first choice player will ever really be satisfied with only playing half the games, the better players will want to play every time they're fit, even if that does mean more games a season. The players at the top level are ultra-competitive. Another angle is that whilst there are more games, players are also getting fitter and training methods are adapting along with this. I don't think we're quite at the model you're suggesting just yet, but I agree that the game seems to be heading towards a direction of more games being played during a season, which I generally don't feel is that helpful at the top level, personally.

Matheus Nunes (38 mil + 4 mil to wolves) and Palhinha (20 mil to fulham) are two players I would have loved us to sign instead of going for Fdj, or signing Casemiro for the same fee.
Along with Bruno, this portgueuse midfield trio would have had a good balance and great communication.

Watched him yesterday against Arsenal (know the game was on saturday), and he is certainly a limited footballer overall but he is a tank. So strong defensively. Important player for Fulham.

I’d love him here. He’s defensively probably the best 6 in the Prem. Just a monster. While he’s somewhat limited on the ball, he knows his limitations and just plays simple which is something our players don’t do.

imagine the CAF if we had two options

1. 5 times champions league winner, Casemiro

2. Relative unknown Palhinha

and we opted for the latter….

Did you guys really watch him? Is slow and terrible at build up play.

I think most posts in here indicates that they know who this guy is and what he is good at. He is defensively a rock and tries to keep it simple.
We should probably try to find a player that can do more aspects of the game well than Pahlinha can, but fact is, we are very vulnerable defensively and could, at least in some games, benefit greatly from having a guy that can defend as well as he can.

Let’s go by your logic
1. Mason Mount, 1 time CL winner, should have an immediate impact for us

2. We are linked with 1 time CL winner [Irrelevant point], should be a decent cover for LB, we should definitely go for him

3. Ronaldo, many CL times winner, couldn’t fit ETH system and demand, and was sold

Judging by CL titles, priceless

Like Onana at Everton a defensive beast but not good enough on the ball for a top team.

So who can we realistically get who has that positioning but good enough on the ball
Unless we want to bench casemiro as a starter we need someone like a Frankie de Jong for me. Very tough to find that profile of player.

The caf overrates players who have good games against only us.

He's put in brilliant performances against several top teams. He's got the best defensive stats of any midfielder in the league. He was Fulham's player of the year. He stood out for Sporting in the Champions League before he ever came to the PL and was one of the core reasons they won their first league title in 20 years.

But yeah, he only actually turns up against Man Utd.

I'd have been perfectly fine with it. Casemiro is old and worn out. Palhinha was just coming into his prime.

Signing a new DM won’t solve our defensive issues.
We are purposely unbalanced. The whole game Ten Hag is trying to play is to overload in the opponents half, have a very high press and getting the ball high up the pitch.
Our defensive woes come from our wings not tucking in to press once we lose the ball, and the collective apathy once the opponent gets into our half.
No single player will be able to solve our defensive issues, as it’s a collective issue

Surprised Liverpool haven't gone for him. Wouldn't be a flashy signing like a Caicedo but would definitely walk into that number six role for them.

Bayern on an oil club-esque spending spree?
Only €50m net spend currently. Only €40m last season.

edit: Pavard‘s sale brings them to €20m net spend and if Gravenberch leaves for another €25m-€30m…

Even though my comment was a bit tongue-in-cheek, that's suprising.

I only saw after I answered that it was you

I was surprised myself, but 45m for Hernandez, 30m for Pavard, 30m for Mané, 19m for Sabitzer and 6.5m for Sommer.
Kane + Kim are 150m.

As of now €22m net spend. Sell Gravenberch for 25m and bring in Palhinha for €70m would be net spend under €70m.

Last summer they sold Lewy plus dross for €100m ( Nianzou, Roca, Richards, etc.).

Bayern is getting good at selling.

Great engine, tough tackler can shoot. Also tends to get bypassed against better teams but perhaps he has fixed that for this season. He will be driven on by the improvement in lukic also

Mate, I don’t think Bayern is in for Lukic.

I think he’s class. Brilliant signing for Bayern if true.
