Varane hasn’t done well with a passive defender like Maguire or Lindelof playing with him (where they expect him to be the aggressor). He does well with an aggressive partner (always has)

I find it quite strange. Martinez won't be back for a while. Maybe he will return at the start of 2024.

I think today is more about the fact that Amrabat and McT struggle to progress the ball- they have similar attributes. With Eriksen, Casemiro and Mount being out Mainoo is the only option to do that

You need to look at the situations. ETH has fallen out with Ronaldo and Sancho. Was it ETH his fault Ronaldo didnt want to do what ETH wanted him to do and then did a crazy interview? Sancho felt like he had to make a social media post against the manager. Those are valid reasons for a manager to ''fall out'' with a player.

Its abundantly clear Varane and ETH have had a fall out. No other explanation for him not playing today or in the last few matches he was benched.
I like the fact ETH is a disciplinarian but a good manager tempers it with some balance for the good of the team.

Garnacho and Mainoo are great to see starting, Rashford has been dire and is only starting because all other attackers are even worse than him. About McTom every word is one too much... Is it? Varane and Maguire are both options to play RCB. Maguire has been playing a lot better than expected and is starting games because of that. It is up to Varane to get his starting spot back. I dont know if ETH see Varane as an option to play LCB but it doesnt look like he does. He didnt see Maguire as an option to play LCB and might not see Varane as an option either.
