Can you really blame his tactics when it was Onana who fluffed two goals?
Yes. At 3-1 he should be getting a message to the players to just calm things down, take the sting out of the game.. all those cliches. Instead, we continue to go looking for the next goal and allowing ourselves get drawn in to a basketball match. Really poor game management. Of course he can’t be blamed for Onana throwing two goals in.. though he did spend big on him.

Onana single handedly kicked us out off CL.
Pellistri was criminally selfish when coming on, we should have scored 4th. Unforgivable miss aswell.

Overall absolutely nothing wrong with our manager today, we were set up brilliantly and we should have won comfortably. It's all on a couple of players this one.

But of course the clowning in this thread will be unreal, I expect 25 pages before the weekend.
Except Ten Hag bought Onana

He bought Antony(tho he played well today, that’s quite unusual)

Up by 2 goals twice, no formation change, that’s poor tactics mate.

We aren't compact at all. Against Everton also after Garnacho scored that goal, we almost instantly conceded. It's an almost constant theme, we constantly play like we're 5-0 up. It's utterly shambolic at this level.

HELLO
The attack is a disgrace and he has to take some blame for that. In the latter stages of that match there must’ve been about 5 or 6 shots from outside the box against one of the most open teams I’ve ever seen. Infuriating

We played well but feck the manager, nice. Did you expect him to expect Onana to make 3 costly mistakes when he's not made any since Copenhagen penalty?
Did you not?!

If you only have to go back a few weeks for his last big mistake, how can you be shocked that more are just around the corner?

That might be fine if Gala didn't have plenty of chances too. We probably had the better chances but that defensive performance was a shambles. Our midfield was being cut open time after time.
I don’t think they did. 2 set pieces and nothing much else. We were creating all the chances in that last 20 minutes, we were actually defending well during that period as well

I realize he is responsible for the how we play, why we are so open and not compact, and for signing Onana but this is the worst luck I have seen since Fergie left. Onana dropping clangers....us creating so so so many chances but not scoring...I guess it's ultimately on him but I feel like we have been so unlucky.

Onana is a bozo - but you people are insane if you watch United playing like a basketball team and have the gall to come on here and write "we played well"

We are fragile as feck, no midfield - lucky this was against Gala - a serious team would have given us a pasting, like it has happened plenty of times under his watch.
We scored 3 goals, all of which were very well worked back to front. I didn't say we were flawless, we gave 2 goals away because of stupid stupid errors. Considering how bad we've been this season we played well. No need to exaggerate.

I am happy to blame when he deserves it, but this was not on him. Before anyone says Onana was his signing, countless managers before him have made bad keeper signings. Only one person to blame tonight, Onana.
If you replace your brick walls with wood and your house collapses, is that your fault or the wood?

It's sad really. A club with such an illustrious history, reduced to being a tinpot European team struggling against literally everyone. And some people not only bend over and take it, but fiercely attack anyone who dare criticise the terrible manager responsible for the humiliation

How does this guy have them at 12 goals in 5 games in the CL and realistically could of had a fair few more..... but 16 in 13 in the League, which actually looks kind

What a flip flop team.

He’s just not good enough at managing games (or being a top level football manager). Did well last year at in game management but has performed a full 360 this season. To take off your defensive holding midfielder after going 3-1 up is just beyond idiotic. We immediately lost control of the game, regardless of what Onana (his signing) did. One win from four games against Copenhagen and galatasary is an absolute shambles. To be knocked out of this group is seriously embarrassing. To think we may not even make Europe too.

He's been largely improved recently. The bar was low, for sure but he has mostly been error free since the Copenhagen penalty. Anyway, I agree I don't like him. Needs to be dropped.

Probably should have started Mainoo. You've never going to keep the ball with a midfield trio of McTomminay, Amrabat and Bruno
He is not trying to keep the ball. People have to change what they are expecting to see. A lot of the issues are down to the players and their failings but plenty are system born.

I don’t think it’s surprising that once again the team crumble under pressure. ETH has failed to address that side of the game and surely everyone can see this?

Set us up fecking perfectly too but we end up squandering easy through balls as if we are Chelsea v 9 men Spurs.
This entire CL campaign feels like self sabotage
I thought we overpaid too much to get Onana. But I didn’t foresee he is so error prone. Again, what a waste of the previous transfer window!

At 3-1, an extra defender? Nope. An extra midfielder? Nope.

Totally agree. I guess the silver lining is that after we finish last in the group, we’ll have to watch less matches, which is a blessing.

Actually played well there, more what you want to see, but ultimately United have conceded 14 goals in the CL, not anywhere near good enough.

Over the course of the game they had plenty of opportunities or good openings. I can't come away from that game and think we played very well and were unlucky. We had the better chances but it was a chaotic match.

For all the years supporting this club, I can't recall seeing another game where we were wide open as that. Something about the set up just wasn't right. It was like a freaking basketball match and this is man utd we are talking about. This is on the manager, unfortunately.

Well we didn't for sure but he was no where near this busy at Inter, but Ten Hag has worked with him for years and knows him, so surely he knows what this guy does when his goal is peppered
If you check the transfer thread, many posters pointed out that he looked suspect in handling and were questioning his performances at Ajax.

Wolves, Fulham, Sociedad and Betis.

The grand total of Ten Hag's away wins against European and top 14 PL opposition in the last season and half.

This next month of games is going to be dreadful.

Honestly, this just makes you realise most people lack any footballing intelligence. Yes, it was entertaining for the neutral but we did not play well beyond the first 20 mins.

We are an Onana bottle job away form having a good season so far. It’s infuriating. It’s not as if he shits himself in the biggest stage, he was one of the best playmakers on the pitch in a fecking CL final only a few months ago.
I’m scratching my head how we didn’t win that, Onana could have gifted 2 more goals on top and we still should have won comfortably

Galatasaray and Copenhagen are massive teams. It should be expected we struggle against them. And only pick up 4 points

A brick wall is the last thing I would call De Gea the last couple of years.

Not suggesting it is ten Hag's fault but to score three goals in CL away games against Bayern, Copenhagen and Galatasary and not win any of them is scandalous.

Dreadful game management once again by Ten Hag. Why on earth take off Amrabat? He was playing fine. Kamikaze stuff yet again. Onana an utter travesty in Europe. Drop him. It's not professional. Lindelof is so weak yet again. Ten Hag doesn't know how to shut up shop away from home in a big game. Absolutely farcical. It keeps happening.
