Mainoo is gonna need protection from the fans and the club as a whole.

He's already being touted as someone who can go to the Euros for England. If he goes and has a bad game, the same people building him up now will probably want him shot.
Thought for a while that he'll be a surprise pick. DM is a bit of a weakness for us, if you take out Rice.

He’s looked very good and I do think he’s a top level talent. I see some being overly concerned about his physical qualities (pace, strength etc) but personally I think that’s unwarranted. He covers ground well and most importantly reads the game better than any other midfielder we have bar Casemiro. My biggest concern is his ability to get on the ball to start controlling games. We can naturally assume this will improve with age and experience, but I’d like to see him impose himself more on the ball and having the most touches every game. This is something that Amrabat does really well and is an area which shows up Mainoo currently.

Was asked to do too much, he isn’t ready for such a big role. Hopefully with Casemiro back things will be better.

His reading of the game is something that can't really be taught past a certain age. It's far more important than physicality at this stage of his development in terms of judging his future prospects.

I think he's guaranteed to be a PL level player long term, but how good will depend on whether the coaching staff are able to develop him and also how good the players around him are.

He could really stagnate if he's stuck in a midtable level team for too long and I don't think playing alongside someone like Bruno will be great for him long term either. He's so composed and it would be a shame to see him embrace the chaos around him, but he does actually seem too level headed for that, thankfully.

Both together on form would be quite formidable. I have a feeling though Erik is too stubborn to try that.

How long before he gets an England call up?
I was thinking his performances must have caught Southgate’s attention.

But with Phillips and Henderson both going out on loan, which should see them getting more minutes and keep their England place.

It might result in Mainoo having to wait a little while longer.

Probably not until next season, next call ups will be essentially a provisional Euros squad, wouldn't be surprised to see him called up for the first internationals of next season though.

he doesn't need or deserve a call up just yet.....let the young lad just play with his club and get the experience and confidence

too early of a call up could completely feck him up mentally and psychologically

He'll get one and he'll pair perfectly with Rice and Palmer / Foden. No one with his skillset in the England setup currently. Drop Henderson / Phillips / Gallagher and get him in.

I think he will be eventually, would like him to be more demanding of the ball at times.

Last thing Mainoo needs is an England call up. He needs experience and the love of the fans here at Utd at his age. Imagine him having a mare in an England match and the ABU and media on his back. That could affect him negatively in his football afterwards. Let him get at least a couple of seasons under his belt first, before the call up

Think we’ve got an absolute star here. He shouldn’t be this composed at 18

So so good. We haven’t had a central midfielder do the things he can do in a long time.
