PL D FA Premier League

Manchester United 2:2 Liverpool

Post-match discussion

Sun, 07 April 2024

I am proud of the players to be honest. We are missing 3/4s of our first choice defence. We seem to be set up in a way that defies all belief and the manager makes subs which we can all see are questionable. Despite all that, they found a way to compete and hinder Liverpool. Maguire and Kambwala outstanding.
Normally I'd agree with you. We're miles off of Pool tactically, physically and technically. But I can't tolerate such stupid mistakes two games in a row. It's such dumb decision making to go to ground in that situation. I'd understand if it was a last ditch tackle that went wrong. But it wasn't. I'll agree that our CBs and GK gave it their all. Maguire in particular has really stepped up when we needed him.

Nah, we did fine after Garnacho's sub. We needed to close shop and strengthen the midfield.
We didn’t do fine, we conceded a goal. Notwithstanding that, there were different ways of managing the game than taking off Garnacho. He should have subbed off Hojlund and brought on Amrabat. Casemiro was a liability and was lucky to play the full 90. Could have replaced with Eriksen.

Would have taken your arm off for a draw before the game started, but once we went 2-1 up I was hoping we could hold on for all three points for once. It's a worrying trend that we can't see games out. Why does EtH insist on subbing Garnacho when he's our best out ball and how did Casemiro stay on for the whole match?

Crazy last three games, we’re in position to win all three despite getting battered most of the time and somehow ended up with two points.

Were the most disorganised, poorly coached team in the league, today was one of those days when we got away with it, it’s same story every game and almost hard to believe it is allowed to happen.

First half is the same pattern as every single game, give away 20 shots, poor at everything and concede silly goals. Second half much better but same mistakes happening. Why do we always concede a shot on goal after every corner? Its almost a disadvantage getting them.
Stupid tackles in the box 2 games in a row now, I believe we would have seen the game out and won it 2-1 had we not gave away the pen.
ETH is not cut out for the job and needs replaced, good thing is that the team isnt that bad at least it has goals and fight in it.

Today Onana was very good, Mainoo brilliant, Garnacho was decent. Rashford was awful, his huffing on the pitch is a disgrace, get back up and go after the ball instead of wasting 5 minutes complaining to the referee about the decison. Bruno redeemed himself slightly in the second half, first half he was wasteful and off the pace massively. Kambwala was good today, great pace and do a very good job, same when he came on against Chelsea as well, hopefully one for the future.

Hard disagree. Liverpool looked dead on their legs and we launched several counters after he went off. Hojlund also looked tired and did nothing so we could have nicked another if ten hag kept him on.

2nd half stats something to build on and hopefully get the win against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Goals - United 2 Liverpool 1
Shots on goal - United 9 Liverpool 13
Shots on target - United 5 Liverpool 3

Bruno works his socks off and his high percentage style pays off often. However, he is a really hard watch because he gives the ball away so much, plays loads of balls to empty field, and is so stupid in his defensive third.

Why we have players crashing into and sliding in on opposition in their own box is anyone's guess. We are giving points away because our players are stupid.

Casemiro would probably still look class in Italy or Spain, but he struggles to keep pace in the Premier League, especially in a high line.

Harry Maguire played like the lower mid-table defender he is. Does basic stuff well enough, but his positioning is suspect, his passing poor, and his decision making below average.

Dalot has this weird thing where his general play makes me think he is good enough and then he does something that shows me he absolutely isn't.

Enough has been said about Rashford, he continues to sleepwalk through the season.

I like Hojlund but he is doing a thankless role at the moment. He works hard and does his best without having the service that helps him to be is best. He gets hardly anything in and around the box, despite being in good positions.

This is a forever statement on here. Whenever we have 1 good half or 1 good game this gets said. We can’t build on anything. We’re not good enough right now

Has been the familiar story all season alright. Up to the players but as a supporter I want to finish the season in 6th at least. We need to be honest the Europa League at best is the level of this group of United players. I don't want Europa conference or no European football next season.

Could have been a win had they not given away a penalty. And yes it was a clear penalty.

Will 6th get us Europa? If 5th doesn’t get the other CL spot? If we have a new manager though maybe no European football is best. Gives him more time to develop and focus on the league.

Just did some random maths purely out of curiosity:

This season against Liverpool;

Over 3 games

Liverpool have had 87 shots against us and scored 5

We've had 43 and scored 6

So we've scored 14% of our shots

They've scored 6% of theirs

So ya know, quite funny actually.

Norwegian studio expert pundits (well, Bojan Djordic and Roger Helland) heaping scorn on EtH for his post-match interview, specifically his insistence that it was a good performance and even in the first half the right game plan, just not implemented well enough because of "mistakes by young players." They point out that United has allowed more shots against in 2024 than any other team in the top division of Europe's top 6 leagues, and that he's effectively pushing all the blame on to the players. Visibly irritated by what they consider to be a transparently whitewashing narrative. Quite right too.

We were battered to be fair .Two moments of individual brilliance almost got us another unlikely win. Fantastic goals. Hope they lose it on goal difference!
Sad that you just knew we would concede after Kobbie's goal. Bad error from AWB.
Casemiro is finished I'm afraid.
Happy enough after it though.

Just shows they've no business being in a title race. How bad have City been this season that Liverpool are still top after all this.

Good ol Bojan, always tells it like it is.

Unbeaten in three games against Liverpool this season. Shame we didn't win but I'd have taken that before the game. Would've been even better had we held on against Chelsea or Brentford.

You have to take that and be happy once you've had time to sit back and think about it.

That game was all about taking points off them. We've done our bit and if they win the league from here it's not our fault

Wasn't a pen

Apparently some think it’s a clearcut one but there’s nobody actually saying what the foul was.

If “wreckless tackle” warrants a penalty by virtue of it just being wreckless , then the near volley by a city player on a Liverpool player should have been an easy call to make.

Garnacho was pretty poor today.

The young guy has been flogged this season often playing twice a week running up and down, often chasing lost causes.
It is not a surprise that he has a less effective game now and then.
Is he 19/20?

This what happens when you don't have left backs. Back 2 back penalty conceded. 2 points from 9 instead of seven.

Should have been 9 from 9 really.

7 points fecked away by stupid decisions and poor defending.

Awful 1st half, better in the 2nd half and looked at times, cohesive. We had our moments but literally just flashes here or there. Cant sustain any real performance or decent passages of play for more than 10 mins. Midfield was pretty shocking, Bruno in the 1st half and Caseimro in the 2nd half. Worldie from Bruno but came because of a Liverpool defenders error. Mainoo holding the MF again by himself. Garnacho was a decent runner and grafter. Good result but terrible performance at home again. I miss the days when we called OT a fortress.

Not sure how bad City are. But I'm pretty sure Liverpool aren't top.

Did he really say that? I thought our senior players were the ones letting us down. Casemiro and Bruno were terrible with their passing and positioning. If he has to blame anyone, blame himself for this set up that he's gone with this season. I've always been behind a high press tactic, but push that defensive line up as well ffs.

So true. I was really elated after the cup game and felt it was the start of a good thing but I could tell a lot of us didn't share that optimism.

Looks like they were right. Very sad.

Was at another game and could only watch the first half. From that utterly appalling half, 0 shots to 15, we have to be happy with a draw.
Puts it in Arsenal's hands with goal difference now.
Shame we couldn't have squeezed out the win to put City back level with Liverpool for extra security. But any game they don't win has to be good.

They’ve got the hardest run in out of the three of them, I know they’ve been very good but can see City getting 4 on the trot.

Who is they?
Arsenal I assume, with us and Spurs away, plus Chelsea in there too?
Liverpool, bar unexpected madness surely only have another couple of games they could slip in.

This was a huge round of the league though, as Arsenal and City both came back superbly in aways they could have found tricky, and have before.

Liverpool have the look of us just before Fergie left, they'll convince themselves otherwise but I can see alot of years in the wilderness to come for them.
