Could Ten Hag guide United to the Premier League title?

Numerous threads and discussions have been made regarding the potential dismissal of Ten Hag. However, INEOS has opted to keep him. Therefore, it's worth discussing what Ten Hag could accomplish at Manchester United moving forward. Admittedly, this season has been marred by poor performance and results. Many overlook the profound impact of the significant injuries to our players on our overall season. Without these setbacks, it's highly likely that we would have secured a top-four finish. Even in such adversity, we finished the season just eight points from the top four.

Ten Hag has already demonstrated his capability to guide our team to a top-four finish in his first season. Our improved performance in the FA Cup final and in the latter part of the season suggest that Ten Hag is adaptable. Arteta, in his initial two seasons at Arsenal, finished eighth, and in his third, fifth. His journey is a testament to the fruits of patience and backing for long-term success. Under a proper footballing structure and support from INEOS, I firmly believe Ten Hag can easily secure a top-four finish and add to our trophy cabinet next season. Ten Hag is a winner and has all the qualities needed to lead United to success. Three finals and two trophies in two seasons under difficult circumstances are no easy feat. With his winning mentality, there's every possibility of Ten Hag bringing the Premier League trophy to Old Trafford within the next three to four years. This is a statement I stand by confidently.

Yes he could but will he, is another question but let’s get behind him.

Nah. He's not good enough. Would take a Leicester freak season with everyone else capitulating and a low points total for someone of his sort of talent to become a PL winning manager.

I doubt it. We looked shaky since just before the league cup in his first season. Almost every other game is a basketball match with us. Some of the stuff he’s tried to do looks incredibly naive for someone with a supposed deep knowledge and understanding of the game.

We can probably answer this post our pre season. If we manage to dominate games and be defensively solid, which is the first thing he should look at doing, there is no reason why we cannot compete.

Given a good enough squad, luck with injuries and less bullshit refereeing killing momentum he could.

Can't see us finishing above City while Guardiola is in charge. It will be tough but certainly not impossible to finish above Liverpool or Arsenal in the next few seasons.

No, but I could see him winning more trophies and leaving behind a squad with several excellent young players and lots of potential. I don’t think he’s good enough to be the guy that steps up when Pep leaves.

The smart thing to do which I’m convinced is the plan would be to allow him to nurture the likes of Mainoo, Garnacho and let him bring through more young players and the likes of Martinez, Hojlund whilst also waiting for a better replacement to come up. As I’ve said for a while United need to target the period in 2-3 years where Pep is gone from City rather than winning a PL before then. At the moment Ten Hag could get every signing right this Summer and our squad could have the season of their lives and get a club record number of PL points and still be pretty likely to fall short. Then when things likely open up more in a few years I think there’s other managers at other clubs who are more likely to be the ones to “take over”.

The injury excuse sounds like he had a bunch of league two players and some 17 year olds to use during the season that he performed miracles with.

Probably not.

My prediction for Ten Hag though, unlike any other manager post Fergie, is that he will leave the club in a positive state and in a overall better mood than it was in when he took over

The next boss will ultimately benefit from a more settled club and also manage us when there's no outright favourite for the title.

If Pep goes and City nosedive, Liverpool and Arsenal drop off a bit, and Chelsea don't have any sort of resurgence, then he may be able to if we build a world class squad with more players with individual, maverick talents like Bruno. If we have a team that stick strictly to his game plan then it will get found out too many times throughout the season. If you took Bruno and his ideas out of this team, we'd be atrocious.

We aren't atrocious as it is? :nervous:

I don't think United will win the league until the late 2020's. And I don't think ten Hag will be here then.

We need at least 2 of Mainoo, Garnacho and Hojlund to fulfil their potential and be supplemented by talented signings.

Wtf is this thread, did you actually watch any of the games last year?

Thanks for letting us know I guess.
Better off not replying really.

Pep hopefully going, Klopp gone. There's definitely a whole there to be filled. I'm still positive with most of the moves INEOS are making here. I think we've got a chance of being in the mix in th next 24 months. Very optimistic, I know. But what's football without hope.

Ten Hag will be gone by Christmas.

The league will have a somewhat different landscape when Pep goes I reckon.

The problem with this statement is that it ignores the fact that our position on the table completely flatters us. If our opponents had taken their many many chances, we'd be in the bottom half of the table.

Well, let's just say then that if we didn't have Bruno I don't think anybody would be backing Ten Hag and he would have been potted, as his creativity and his ideas paper over all of our attacking deficiencies. I dread to think where we'd have finished last season if we had replaced him with, say Mason Mount.

You have to be able to deal with injury setbacks to be able to begin to challenge in this league. How many times had SAF had to field makeshift teams during title runs. ETH proved last season that he totally crumbles when one or two key players are missing from his system.

Oh here we go... 1/2 key players missing myth.

having make shift teams for 2/3 games in a season is different to not having a LB all season, not having your LCB playing most of the season.

Fergie also lost the league multiple times 98 being one of them because Keane was injured.

We played alot of the season with no CDM, LCB,LB. Fergie had 4 ST to chose so if 1 was injured he can play other 3 on rotation.. Ten Hag had 2 and 1 didnt play all season.

Quite confident Teh Hag will not be at Utd in 3-4 years time, let alone win the prem.

Utd are 25/1 to win the prem next season which realistically says where we are in terms of winning. It’ll take a huge turn around to defy those odds over the next few years.

Sounds like Pep will be leaving soon, which will significantly boost chances of everybody else, including Arteta and Erik

It's not a myth. Martinez in particular being missing for most of the season seemed to have the biggest impact on what was a total team and managerial collapse. We're talking about Fergie who never dropped outside the top four here, who was still able to maintain standards despite injury setbacks. He managed to beat an almost full strength Arsenal by fielding two young full backs on the wings and a makeshift back four and wrestled with Real Madrid's midfield fielding the likes of Tom Cleverly. That's what a Manchester United manager needs to aspire to, but many fans seem to forget what standards the club used to hold.

People also need to move on from SAF. He was the best ever manager.

You need to understand football has moved on along way since those days... more clubs have money now, emergence of ME money.

This is another reason we cannot progress, people keep going back to "During the Fergie Days" I mean that was over 11 years ago, lets move on. It was great time in our history, with one of the best ever managers produced.

No one is claiming Ten HAg is the best manager, Pep and Klopp are. We are not competing against the best manager, we dont have the best.

Please come to reality.

i wouldn’t trust him to guide me into my mum.

No one is guaranteed a title, but there's been nothing to suggest that he could even challenge for it, let alone win it. Next season there's nowhere left, so we will have definitive proof what he is all about.

Edited my post at the end. Basically we will never have another SAF, but that doesn't mean that we don't aspire to his standards. We are currently so far away from that standard, light-years away by accepting that a manager who finished 8th, with a negative goal difference is worthy to lead us into another season, and will somehow bring United back to the top challenging for leagues titles and CL's. It's actually laughable.

Right so who was your choices to be manager then, clearly you wanted him sacked for someone?

I believe it was the correct in the end decision given the candidates we were left with, and will just have to fasten my seatbelt hoping for the best. This doesn't mean I believe that ETH will get us anywhere near a title or CL if he lasts past Christmas.

Fair enough. See that is where I stood in terms of candidates. I can see why he needs to be sacked. The football was horrendous.

Then I see fans screaming standards of winning the league and CL but will not mention a suitable candidate. No manager we were linked to win us the league in 1/2 years, so why hire them?

We would spend 10m sacking Ten Hag for a sideways move?

If he gets past christmas, we can win the league under him because no way I see him in the job unless by then we have massively improved in our play.
