Self interests would be aligned, it would be an easy way to increase club income in order to spend more money elsewhere.
Or, get rid of competetion. Don't assume their interests are aligned. This is sportswashing, after all.

Only vaguely related to City but I can understand why they would vote against the APT changes, as they're clearly using shareholder money to inflate their income to get around fair play rules, and it seems that their current court case involves this too. And I can see why Newcastle and Villa did - they both have hyper rich owners but relatively poor income when compared to the "big 6" so can inflate theirs too. But why Forest? Their owners are not very wealthy at all for Premier League standards. Wouldn't Ipswich, who voted for the changes, benefit a lot more than Forest due to their owner's wealth? Are Forest making more use of shareholder transactions than the other teams outside of Newcastle/Villa/big 6?

Relegation to the championship wouldn't even count as a punishment. It would be a total laugh for them. A season of thrashing every team, then right back to the usual shite in the PL. If they're not decimated, they've won.

Even if they are relegated to the conference, they will still likely be in Europe every season if they can keep some of their squad together.
All they need is a cup win and they will be in Europa. And if they win the Champions league, that's another season for them. Then they just have a jolly for a few years battering teams 8-0 every game until they are back in the Prem.

It won’t happen that way, not in this instance. Perhaps it might, in the long run, depending on the mood music and the politics. But don’t forget alll the clamour (and votes) when some in here thought Qutar might come knocking.
If they got relegated to the Conference neither Gaurdiola or any of their top players would stick around. They have a mostly ageing squad and they wouldn't be able to sign top players anymore.
I'm pretty certain his time at City has made him a billionaire, plus whatever assets they've given to him and his brother; he's finished the game and has already got his legacy wrapped up. Any smart narration can absolve him and even make a martyr out of him - how noble he would look taking them back up to the PL if the fantasy of them being relegated actually happened, for example.
Serving a bit of "time" but getting to keep all of those ill gotten gains is a trade off he'd probably take 10 times out of 10. If the worst came to the worst in the eyes of them being punted out of the league, Pep can easily come out of that smelling of roses. He may also have a clause that has him able to exit should it happen.

If found guilty the only acceptable punishment is expulsion from the EPL with re-entry only available with new owners with no contact with the old owners.

They should have an additional year's ban from promotion to the PL for each year that they've refused to cooperate, meaning their first x promotions won't count. That's 6 years and counting.
That’s my position on it as well. It shouldn’t be a timed ban - but open ended while owners who have held the sport to ransom, costing the rest of the league tens of millions in costs with their deceit and cheating are still involved in any way.
I’m happy for Manchester City the club not to be relegated at all, so long as the state who own them currently and have been behind the cheating end their involvement.

Point deduction over 5 seasons - say 50 points pr season - no possibility to play in Europe for 5 seasons and banned from transfers for the first 2 years. That would be a suitable punishment imo.
