Electricity off in all of Spain and parts of Portugal

There are a lot of waiters being shouted at by ex-pats right now.

:lol::lol:

Hopefully places like hospitals have back up electricity for situations like this.

All as in... all? That sounds monumentally dangerous. Is that affecting hospitals, ATC, train lines etc?

FFS I hope they fix it before our match on Thursday

Eesh. That's horrific

Chaos on the roads in Madrid too. No traffic lights working.

People are stuck on the subway, phone calls not working. In Azores I have power but some online things are finicky.

Looks like it's the national grid that's failed, so places like Mallorca can switch to the local generators.

Lisbon Airport out as well, so it's a pretty wide hit.

I'm going with failed software update over cyber security breech for now - but not looking good.

Yes, because that's the first consideration.

Don't worry about the collapse of infrastructure, make sure the football is on.

Mind you, the BBC seems to think a tennis tournament being suspended is important. :nervous:

Priorities innit

“The cause is yet unclear. Domestic media are reporting issues with the European electric grid, which affected national grids in the Iberian Peninsula, however. A fire in the south-west of France, on the Alaric mountain, which damaged a high-voltage power line between Perpignan and eastern Narbonne, has also been identified as a possible cause.”

A friend of mine near Perpignan has just told me their power is out.

If the big cross border export cable has failed in some way, then that will have been a big instantaneous hit to the grid system.

And the added joy for Spain of being able to blame the French

Real Madrid are already preparing a special episode on their network to blame the refs for it.

The French have just sensed an opportunity to do no work and have just turned off the power at the wall. Expect Greece to follow shortly.

Now is the time to invade, brits. Repay them the Anglo-Spanish Wars. Je suis Oliver Cromwell.

Looks like it's currently localised to the Catalan coast of France (Perpignan area) at the moment. My friend's power is already back on so it looks like they're recovering at least for now.

It could mean they've closed the Spain/France cable that runs through the region for now as well - which is a pretty big deal.
