Matheus Cunha | Deal close with United (Sky Sports)

Will he actually sign if we don't win the europa. He must be concerned by how bad we are and the prospect of amorim not lasting long

I hope he would still be interested. We desperately need goals next season and he will be a very good addition to our goalless attack.

As someone mentioned he has another good quality that he can still shine and carry his team despite the team underperforming. Something Bruno also does and we desperately need.

Yeah that's very good point

We need:

ST - Viktor Gyökeres - (He is the perfect striker for us, any other option like Delap are definitely not at the same level)

CAM - Matheus Cunha - (If Rashford leaves, Cunha is a must, but if Rashford stays at Old Trafford then Cunha would be a plus)

CM - Morten Hjulmand - (If he became Sporting CP's captain there is a reason, as second choice there is Wharton but he is more expensive and not as good as Hjulmand)

LB - Rayan Ait-Nouri - (We already have Dorgu who is not a good option imho, we should consider buying a top player in this position)

CB - Charlie Cresswell - (He would be a backup choice behind Maguire, De Ligt and Yoro, but he is a cheap signing, and a promising English CBs and i'm sure that his value will be much higher in a few years)

GK - Joan García - (His last season was outstanding, he would be a great signing)

Outgoings:

Mainoo - He is overrated and still has a good market price to be sold
Garnacho - He could be useful, but I would let him go for a good offer
Hojlund - If we sign Gyokeres, he is the first one who should leave
Onana- Too many mistakes, he is not Manchester United material
Dorgu - He was a mistake, he is not Manchester United material
Antony - He is imho a good player, but he needs a team that trusts in him.
Lindelof - free
Eriksen - free
Evans - free

Like this is getting done so early - even before Wednesday night

Very interested to see how he turns out - at least he will add some much needed goals!

Happy with this one. We need more players who can compete physically while still being good on the ball. He doesn't look that imposing but defenders seem to just bounce off him.

Not just goals, it will add much needed technical ability in that forward line.

How many times have we seen Cunha receive the ball in tight spaces and manage to dribble his way into the opponents half?

Yeah that ability to move with the ball will be massive. Should open up our attack so much.

I just hope we don't expect him to be some pressing machine. It won't happen.

This is my main concern about him, I saw a stat where he walks the most in the PL...

Tbh.. with pressing, its more about positioning and cutting passing lanes.. Also, if the whole team pushes further, you don't need to be a pressing monster..

The problem we have is, our CB's are scared to follow forwards so they receive turn and drive at our defence.

I hope the theme of getting stuff done early continues. The hierarchy should absolutely know who we’re going after. There’s no major international tournament to get in the way either so no excuses to not have the majority of transfer business done before pre-season starts.

As for Cunha, I’m happy with his apparent addition. He fits that Amorim style and it looks like he’s been earmarked for quite some time. Wasn’t it noted when we played Wolves away that Amorim and him had a notable interaction there too?

I had concerns about some of the ways he's acted towards wolves but honestly he's a really good attacking player and my god do we need some.

He's an excellent player and I'll be so glad when this is finally done. Don't care if he is a pressing machine or not, as long as he creates and scores goals.

Get it done! so it can drop on Thursday morning.

*Will it be the cherry on top after the Europa win or a consolation prize...time will tell!

He won’t press, I can tell you that now but his ball control and ability to go past people is phenomenal, he has that ability to suddenly up a gear and glide past people.

Also don’t worry about his attitude, yes he’s had a couple of run ins but they were down to frustration at losing which is what you want from a player, and he’s posted a couple of things on instagram that’s upset some Wolves fans but it wasn’t that bad, ultimately at Wolves he’s a huge fish in a smallish pond but he won’t be like that at United, I think he will behave as you have some big personalities to reign him in.

He’s extremely popular with the players and we often see BBQs with all the players there that he’s the main man doing the joking about.

He’s a big personality and I’m gutted he’s going but we need the cash, and if he has to go then I’m glad it’s United.

Admittedly not the singing I wanted due to his disciplinary issues and his lack of pace to be a LW if we switch formation. The cynic in me thinks he'll be benched by the next manager who won't be able to squeeze him and Bruno into a 4-3-3.

Got to try to be positive when we sign a player though. At least he'll offer a much needed goalscoring threat.

If we add Cunha with another mobile forward it would give us a better balance forward.

My issue with Amad and Garnacho are that they are too close to the touchline and still act like wingers, leaving spaces for the two midfielders to push high when we lose the ball.

These two 10s should play more centrally with the wings back pushing higher.

So tactically it would be great to have him, and especially if he's announced before June.

I don't care about the price, as all the players are now between 40-60 nowadays

Thanks for that Wolfie, always good to hear from somebody who has followed the player closer than those who choose to contribute after watching a YouTube clip or two!

I have seen him play a bit. As soon as he was initially linked with United, I tried to catch a few more Wolves games and as you say, despite the negative moments (which are interpreted questionably in certain areas), he looks a very talented player with great instincts, skill, creativity and finishing. These are the qualities that United are so lacking right now, so if they can get the deal over the line, I for one will be happy.

What is this about?
He's publicly made it pretty clear that he would like to leave. He posted on Instagram something about it's time to follow his dreams and maybe made a few other comments alluding that he wants to leave.

Seems like a bit of a dick. Looking forward to him being our dick.

Oh, that's not an issue for me.

Class player…can see a pass, can dribble past 3/4 players, can keep the ball in tight spaces. He can transform our way of playing. Exciting

Is he a sign we're not gonna pursue a press then, or do we think one can still be effective without everyone doing their bit?

Remember over Xmas him doing bits and wishing he was playing for us! Over the moon to be honest.

I'm actually pretty disappointed with this. Seems like a panic buy to me given that he doesn't fit many of the criteria Amorim seems to look for.

Also possible he is a player that will thrive being the main man in a smaller team and may struggle here.

I expect Amorim wants a player who might save us points on his own with individual brilliance when the team can't break opposition down, which is nearly all the time. Kinda a classic united signing of the last ten years in that sense, for a big fee.

Definitely a Fergie-like panic buy great signing who will likely struggle but be brilliant for us. Given the massively inflated fee he could be an absolute bargain.

a panic buy, before the window even opens?

The guy has been excellent all season and is a perfect fit for the number 10 role. Its anything but a panic buy

I think everyone can at least half-agree with this.

Nice to get it done early. Striker next
The weekend will be telling. If we win Europa, the target scenario should be dispositioned to begin contacting agents. At the very least:

Win EL -> Gyokeres
Lose EL -> Delap
My preference: I’m still holding out hope for Osimhen.

A win Wednesday night should propel INEOS to make the necessary resources available so this campaign is never repeated again. No excuses.

Don’t think anybody can say he won’t press. He’s scored goals directly from pressing and winning the ball this season. But ultimately we don’t really know what he’s asked to do at Wolves. In terms of his physical traits I see no reason why he can’t bee dangerous in the press.
