The 'How you getting to Bilbao' thread

I'm currently waiting for my Wednesday morning flight/transfer package email to arrive which should've done an hour ago. Won't settle until I know exactly what I'm doing but any minute now surely...

EDIT: here it is

I'm going Dublin - Santander on Weds morning then a bus from there to Bilbao but my bus isn't until 4 so if i can get an earlier one or rent a car i will. Don't have a ticket but ya never know how far a wee bit of optimism can take you. I also have no way back from Bilbao to Santander apart from a bus in the morning at 6:45 so might be a marathon instead of a sprint...

Sounds like quite the adventure! Good luck to you and I hope we make it worth your while!

How much journey time is that?

Actually getting to Bilbao from Barca I've taken slow and paced it out. First was a train to Zaragoza at 90ish minutes Saturday eve, but today's leg Zaragoza to Bilbao was closer to 5 hours (3+ on train, 90mins coach). The way back Thursday is pretty rubbish though, 9 hour train back to Barca and a flight home first thing Friday from there. But so many options were sold out by the time I pulled the trigger, this was the best of what was left.

But it'll all be worth it, right? Right?!

PS reading everyone else's creative routes over is making me a very proud red - never appreciated the efforts required to make it to these finals when they come around.

My confirmed travel plans are a 9.20am flight from Manchester on Wednesday to Santander and then a 75-90 minute coach to the fan park. Return flight departs at 4.30am local time on Thursday. Hopefully won't be hanging around waiting for the coach at the fan park back to the airport but is what it is and hopefully the atmosphere then will be a good one.

Just one more night shift before my first flight out to Barcelona tomorrow!

On to Bilbao Weds morning before a long 24 hours and a coach to Madrid on Thursday morning

Metro running until 3am if that helps anyone out hotel wise. Look at the end of the lines.
Do you have a good source for reading up on the extra transport they're putting on? My nearest stop is Sodupe about 18km outside the centre but it really isn't clear if there are any options post match to get back.

It's not the destination, it's the journey.

Have some nice beer/wine and some Spanish nibbles etc.

There's a ride share app popular in Spain you could try. Can't remember the name.

There's an fan zone being set up in Bilbao so you could hang around there and try to find tickets.

The Spanish authorities are meant to be putting buses on back to Santander Airport after the game leaving from the fan park at Extebarri Parkea. Thats what the fan guide says anyway

I think those are for chartered flights and would be surprised if they accept people not on those specific flights. My info is that they will call people to the coach on a flight by flight basis so there's no overcrowding in Santander airport

Fly London to Toulouse this afternoon. Hire a car and drive 4 hours to Bilbao.

On the return, drive back to Toulouse, drop the car off, then get the train to Marseille. Fly back to LHR

Nice one. I'm heading into Bilbao at the moment, so a couple of days of drinking pre-match.
Got here last night, just a load of media and club staff around at the moment so it’s a bit quiet, only highlight so far was sharing a lift with Robbie Savage this morning.

Ormaetxe, Dorre Kalea, 4, Ibaiondo, 48005 Bilbao, Bizkaia, Spain

There's a triangle there in the old town that's a lively spot.

I was there on a week night and that was the only spot with a crowd.

Word of warning for anyone checking out the united fanzone tomorrow, it's quite a steep climb up if you've already had a few.

Just popped my head up there and doesn't look like much atm, barriers stopping anyone have a proper nosey. Centre of town feels very spursy just now

Utd are all over the old town. 80% red, Spurs are dicking about jumping on cars towards the ground.

Bar after bar in the small streets, really nice and 4 euro pints. Prices have not gone up.

Good stuff lads n lasses, great to read. Wonder what the % will be over there for Reds v Spuds. Favourable but not massively I'd imagine, they've not had so many trophy opps since Gazza got injured.

Enjoy all. I'd say Stay Safe but United v Spurs in Bilbao sounds fairly safe already, all things considered.

Quite a bit of trouble already. Mainly in San Sebastian.

The players should be forced to read this kind of stuff…and there’s a good amount of it as well

Think it’s easily and often forgotten the lengths some people go to. Not to mention the cost. Fair play to you

Good luck…and enjoy

I will be unashamedly sat on my couch.

Pretty ugly scenes coming out from San Sebastian. Not unexpectedly as it's United - Spurs abroad.

Hopefully, you all have a great time worthy of such trip considering all the effort to get there.
