Reds trio pass the test

Edwin van der Sar, Ryan Giggs and Patrice Evra all appeared to come through training unscathed as United spent an hour on the Stadio Olimpico pitch on Monday night.

Michael Carrick, however, was forced to watch from the sidelines after picking up an injury in the Reds’ weekend win over Aston Villa.

Earlier on Monday, Sir Alex Ferguson admitted there was some uncertainty surrounding Giggs and Evra’s fitness but neither showed any sign of discomfort during the evening session. The Reds began with light stretching before progressing to some basic ball work and a small-sided game.

Mikael Silvestre, with only two Reserves games under his belt since damaging cruciate ligaments last September, looked sharp, as did Rio Ferdinand, despite nursing a black eye sustained during Saturday’s league win."

There's absolutely no way we'll start in Rome with Scholes and Anderson alone. Hargreaves will definately start, alongside both of them if Carrick doesn't make it.

Yeh im pretty certain that will be the team tomorrow, cant see giggs starting this one ahead of tevez especially after his good performance and gigs coming off looking very tired,....and nani and carrick being out

Hargreaves probably would have played anyway even if Carrick was fit. Don't think Scholes would have done but the only thing I am basing this on is that he played the full 90 against Villa.

If Carrick isn't fit then I would love it if we played 4-4-2 of:

Ronaldo - Hargreaves - Anderson - Giggs

---------Rooney---------Tevez--------

Though can't see that team being played.

Shithouse. We could really do with Carrick against Roma.

Hopefully Giggs does not play because lets face it his performances aren't good enough for him to start any game anymore. We should stop playing him for sentimental reasons. Tevez should play and we look a far better team with 2 strikers anyway.

Think it'll be a three man midfield away from home. Just like our away to Lyon.

Get an away goal. Then bring Roma back to Old Trafford and finish them off.

Although Totti being injured might take some pressure off our midfield defensively and induce SAF to go with Tevez over a third midfielder.

Away matches in Italy are exactly when you need a cool veteran head like Giggs.

If you play Tevez instead of Giggs, then where is your width going to come from? The last thing you need is a lack of width and an inability to get through a packed Roma midfield.

I read somewhere today that Fergie was keeping Carrick from training so as not to aggrevate his injury and that he would have a test close to the game. Read so many links today I'm dizzy. If he's fit he'll play imo.

Well, i know i've posted this in the matchday thread, but this is how I'd line up, get width even without Giggs playing or Tevez on the wings...

How you ask?

This is how I would line up...

-----------------------Van Der Sar---------------------

Brown-----------Rio--------------Vidic-------------Evra

-----------Hargreaves----Scholes----Anderson-------

Ronaldo-----------------------------------------Rooney

-------------------------Tevez---------------------------

Rooney on the left is actually NOT a bad idea. Plus don't forget that Ronaldo and him can switch every now and then, not to mention Evra who will also be supporting on the left to provide even more width.
And knowing Anderson, seems like a pure left footer and can touch the line occasionaly as well.

I would play a 4-3-3 formation also, and let’s not forget, we’re not a regimented/rigid side as per Chelsea, so the 4-3-3 formation is a very loose term indeed, we like to swap and switch our players around during the game, so expect Ronaldo to change wings constantly and Rooney and Tevez to drop off at will to feed one another throughout. I would play Scholes in the middle, with Anderson left-sided and Carrick/Hargreaves on the right. This side to me has enough bite, width and creativity to score, hold the ball and control the opposition.
