...to the Premier League for tapping up Berbatov and Keane.

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_3835579,00.html

Liverpool and Manchester United have been reported to the Premier League by Tottenham Hotspur following their respective interest in Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov.

Spurs are unhappy with the conduct of their top-flight rivals following speculation linking Keane with a move to Anfield, and Berbatov with a switch to Old Trafford.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez has expressed his interest in Keane, while United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken of his optimism of concluding a deal for Berbatov.

However, Spurs have criticised the two clubs, with chairman Daniel Levy feeling they have to take the matter up with the Premier League.

Sheer arrogance
"Today's public comments by Manchester United's manager, announcing that he has made an offer for Dimitar and is confident that the deal will go through with time working in their favour, is a blatant example of sheer arrogance and interference with one of our players," said Levy in a statement on the club's official website.

"It is also probably one of the worst offences by any manager in the Premier League to date and is unbelievably hypocritical given his recent comments in respect of Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid.

"This comes after a series of events, dating back to last summer, which have shown Manchester United to be in breach of Premier League (PL) rules. As a result, we have today made an official complaint to the PL about the conduct of Manchester United.

"Benitez made similar comments in respect of Robbie recently and we made an official complaint to the PL about the conduct of Liverpool earlier this week.

"The behaviour of both clubs has been disgraceful. We told both clubs very early on that we had no interest in selling Robbie or Dimitar, respectively, and that they should refrain from pursuing the player. Both clubs arrogantly chose to ignore this request and we now have evidence that both clubs have systematically been working to prise the players away from us, outside of PL rules of conduct.

Negative influence
"Our subsequent position has been severely compromised by both clubs making their intentions widely known and indeed making contact with the players and their agents, without the club's permission.

"I have absolutely no wish to sell either player and to date we have not accepted any offer for either. However, when a player's head is turned and their commitment is absent, particularly when they occupy key positions such as that of striker, they become a negative influence in a team dressing room in which they were once a positive addition and influence.

"This is the situation we now have on our hands, with both Dimitar and Robbie having made it clear that they wish to leave for Manchester Utd and Liverpool respectively.

"Irrespective of the outcome and futures of Robbie and Dimitar, we are continuing to seek to bring in quality, talented players for the future, who want to play in a Spurs shirt."

This is bullshit. Levy is taking quotes in The Sun as gospel, as if Custis interviewed Fergie.

We all know Custis got the fecking quotes from a dodgy Norewgian website that later removed them.

I thought Sir Alex hasnt actually said officially that berbatov is united's target
making these allegations seem retarded

Obviously he didnt say it was Berbatov but the fact that we made a bid says it all.

He didnt have to speak so confident about us getting him, like the deal was all done. Damn now we look like fools on the Ronaldo saga even when he is staying.

Why is it a dodgy Norwegian site? It's the official Scandinavian United website and they have close ties to Fergie. They removed the quotes because they feared that English media would twist them around, unfortunately that has now happened and the damage is done.

since when are clubs not allowed to make a bid and feel confident about it though?

as always im sure Sir Alex knows exactly what hes doing and it will end up being the right thing

He says it dates back to last summer, which makes sense really. Fergie's alluded to it on more than one occasion, though never naming Berbatov outright. It's been a bit fecking obvious to be fair.

He seems resigned to losing both players aswell, judging by those comments.

There's no doubt that neither Liverpool nor United have been playing by the rules. Nobody ever does

No worries... if Real didn't get sanctioned then we have nothing to worry about here.

The scousers should get points deducted though.

Do you honestly think Fergie would have said anything like this to those noggies if he thought they were going to pass it on to The Sun etc. as quick as they could??

He would only have said something like this off-the-record, and that's why they removed the quotes.

Without meaning to sound hypocritical, I don't see that we've really done that much wrong. We've put a bid in and then confirmed it. Its not as if SAF, Gill and Uncle Malc have been spouting for 2 months in the media that we want to sign him. Unlike Madrid, United have put forward a request to buy the player, which as yet has not been refused. So for Levy to compare it to the Ronaldo saga is nonsensical.

Well, I think so anyway.

who fecking cares.

ferguson never one said utd bid for berbatov or even named a team. More paper bollocks.

Either levy will sell or he won't berbatov wanted out last season and not just for utd spurs already knew that and nothing has changed. As usual the media painting utd as the bad guy. How much you want to bet that all the liverpool supporting journo's will play down the shit storm benitez launched.

Hardly the same as naming a player.

Just getting his excuses in early so all the fans think he tried oh so hard to keep the players. Just like with Carrick.

Blackburn should report Spurs over Bentley then... horses for courses

They were cnuts over the Bostock deal and all. Palace had every right to be pissed off.

No mark cnuts.

He is guilty to a certain extent, these comments came after press reports that we had made a £20million for Berbatov - Fergie played smart but still crossed the line, we would be complaining if it was done to us.

As for Benitez with Keane, all clubs seem to get pissed off with the way Liverpool have unsettled players through the media - must be a typical Spanish trait.

When did he cross the line? Fergie said we bid for an unnamed player. He never told any journalists from The Sun that it was Berbatov.

where did he say he made a bid for Berbs? Other than The Sun claiming that he did?

it's all media speculation that's done this. if Spurs did report us, we shall be vindicated.

To be honest Palace shot themselves in the foot on that one... they could have done a deal for 4 - 4.5m for him but Jordan got greedy.

This all sounds like high grade bullshit to me

the fecking dumbass media at work again in the slow season

If Gill has any sense he'll be waking up the United press office to release a statement questioning why Levy has publicly admonished United and Fergie based on quotes in The Sun of extemely dodgy origins.

Reading this and on rawk I think something has finally united the two teams (on one thing only). Quite a lot of similar comments.

circumstances seem to be different though as it dosnt seem that Sir Alex ever officially named a player

Spurs think they are in the big time now.

This will only annoy Fergie - lets hope the Spuds are on the recieving end of the same treatment the barcodes got from us last season :D

United issued a brief response to Tottenham's claims with a spokesman saying: "We are aware of the allegation and will co-operate with the Premier League as necessary."

 That's just poor. You should respond ASAP and publicly question the source of The Sun's quotes, which seems to be the only "public" statement that Levy can complain about.

I guess they are playing safe and don't want to say anything until they see exactly what Levy is accusing them of, but it's a rapid news cycle and we're going to see a ton of negative stuff in tomorrows newspapers about how awful Fergies quotes were without anyone questioning The Sun's sources.

BBC: "Ferguson announced on Friday that United had made Tottenham an offer for 27-year-old Berbatov and that he was confident that the deal would go through."

Did fergie actually say this?

No, he publicly said we had bid for an unknown player. That's just a lie.

Where did you saw/heard that?

Looks like Maurice will be dusting his suit off again.

Just had a look at The Sun, strangely no mention of their 'Exclusive' interview with Fergie.

Levy states “This is the situation we now have on our hands, with both Dimitar and Robbie having made it clear that they wish to leave for Manchester Utd and Liverpool respectively".

Yeah, tomorrows Sun just says "Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed United have made a bid for Berbatov and eventually expects the deal to go through. "

Surely to feck they should be mentioning that they are the only newpaper who says Fergie confirmed this! Surely this "exclusive" interview shoulld be something to be bragging about?

God, half of me is angry about the ignorance of Levy and the crapness of The Sun, while the other half of me is just laughing at the absurdity of it all.

Some posts from a norwegian United fansite end up in The Sun via RedCafe and suddenly we have 3 clubs at war!!! It's just surreal!
