    villatalk confident for this one:
That's a great read. Hopefully the Villa players have a similar lack of confidence.

Really looking forward to this game now. I'm glad we're entering the busy Xmas period, as our lack of games this season is getting to me.

Since Fellaini is out, I'd like to see Valencia to give us that strength in the centre of our midfield. All these formations with Carrick holding and Mata/Rooney/Herrera in front of him looks way too lightweight to me.

As I said in the Herrera thread, I don't see why strength has to be such a big deal in this game. Villa have a weak midfield (if not side in general), especially because of their current injuries. I'm hoping to realistically see something like this:
    de Gea
    Jones Carrick Evans
    Valencia Herrera Rooney Young
    Mata
    RVP Falcao

The only changes from the Liverpool game would be Herrera and Falcao.

Januzaj has barely been it this season, he hasn't the work rate to start at wing back, something Lingard was selected to do on his debut this season but sadly a huge injury robbed him. Januzaj has also played upfront this season, he has not impressed as he doesn't get in behind the defenders nor does he offer pace. Januzaj had Raheem Sterling-ish season last season under Moyesy,Rodgers 8th place side, now that the side is thriving Januzaj is not up to standard.

Why will Lingard contribute more? He can play wing back, winger, No.10 and be a natural forward player, reserve form and loan spell form as evidence. Also Lingard may not be a great dribbler like Adnan, but he possesses the natural blistering acceleration and pace to get in behind defences, something Adnan cannot do off the ball.

I've always thought Lingard has more promise than Januzaj in the youth set up, then again it could be a case of Rooney VS Ronaldo again.

A link? Quotes from ManUtd.com By LVG, Physioroom, training updates etc, however now my info is outdated as its been 3 days since my last post.
Well, ok. I don't quite get your first paragraph at all.
And the second and third ones are your opinions mate, not facts that are for certain.
Also this season Januzaj has been having field trips in the reserve games.

Do you think Lingard (who I think is promising) would have done the same Adnan did last season?

Would like to see this, unless Rojo is fit he should start instead of Evans.

We are missing Hutton, Cleverley, Richardson and Westwood so will be struggling a bit.

Think we will go for this-

    Guzan

    Vlaar Okore Clark
    Bacuna Cissokho

    Sanchez Delph

    Weimann

    Agbonlahor Benteke

Expect to see you lot beat us convincingly, Falcao will destroy us if he starts.
Love the confidence. Every year Villa seem to step up a gear against United, make it very difficult. It is almost as though they don't believe in themselves. They can go ahead convincingly 2-0 and still lose 2-3.

I will take any win, but I would be surprised if it is by more than 1 goal.

Yeah, same here. I think it hasn't been helped by the seemingly never ending international breaks and getting knocked out of the League Cup way back in August. Hopefully we go far in the FA Cup this season as well, sick of having one game a week at the moment.

Not got a great feeling about this one. Not arsed about the performance tomorrow as long as we get the 3 points but I can see it being a scrappy 1-1.

First game I'm not going to be staying up for since I've moved to Australia, well assuming someone can help me first:

Is there somewhere I can source a good quality recording of the game when I wake up while still avoiding the score?

    It may be:

    De Gea
    Jones--Carrick--Evans
    Valencia--Herrera--Rooney--Young
    Mata
    Falcao--van Persie

but it worries me not having a natural defensive midfielder and I'm not a big fan of the 3-5-2. The good thing is though is that it can change to the diamond formation if needed.

I know a lot want us to play the diamond but I can't see that happening with Valencia and Young at fullback.

I wouldn't mind seeing a 4-3-3 with Januzaj starting but that would mean Falcao on the bench.

    De Gea
    Valencia--Jones--Evans--Young
    Carrick
    Mata--Herrera--Rooney--Januzaj
    van Persie

I'd play with a back four: Rafael-Jones-Evans-Young. Carrick just in front of them, and then Herrera, Valencia, Rooney, Falcao and VP to interchange in midfield and attack, I actually see them doing that well, in some specific order, of course.

Still think Wilson will get the nod over Falcao which is incredible. I'm dying to see him full force. Hopefully see Di Maria at some point.

    Team to play Aston Villa:

    de Gea
    Rafael - Jones - Evans - Young
    Carrick
    Valencia - Herrera
    Rooney
    van Persie - Falcao

Subs: Lindegaard, McNair, Blackett, di Maria, Januzaj, Mata, Wilson
I'd ditch the 3-5-2 for this game. Carrick was excellent as the sweeper centre back against Liverpool, but man-marking Benteke with his strength and power will be a completely different proposition for Carrick and I think he might struggle to contain him. Plus, we are playing a team that are primarily a counter-attacking side with plenty of pace and they might be able to exploit us on the flanks with Agbonlahor and Weimann penetrating in behind.

Rafael would return to the team at right back, with Valencia compensating for the loss of physicality in midfield following Fellaini's illness and absence. There's no need for any other changes in defence, even though rotation will be important over the next few weeks.

It's probably a bit harsh to omit Mata from the starting eleven after his goal and assist against Liverpool, but the prospect of Rooney, van Persie and Falcao lining up together could be devastating upfront and I think Falcao is in a position to start matches now. Unfortunately for Mata, he just isn't as deserving of a starting place as Rooney and RvP.

I'd imgine it'll be the 3-5-2 again. Carrick/Evans/Jones at the back. If Rafa is fit to start then I could see him start, with Valencia pushed into midfield to take Fellaini's place. I also reckon Falcao will start this one.

Have a feeling tony could play in midfield and Herrera could once again find himself on the bench cause Louis wants presence in midfield.

United to win 4-0. Rooney, RVP and a Falcao brace. This should be a good game for us.

If Fellaini isn't available then I think LVG will play Fletcher instead of Herrera.

He seems to think of Fletcher as a solid defensive player as he keeps bringing him on towards the end of the games.

    Rafael Jones Evans Young
    Carrick
    Valencia Rooney
    Mata
    RVP Falcao

    My prediction lineup.
With fellaini out, obviously LVG is going to put in someone with similar attributes and the only one who fits the bill is valencia. Luckily Rafail is fit now and we can play back a back four with Rafael as RB and Young as LB.
Valencia tke over fellaini position and form the 3 men midfield with Carrick and Rooney
mata as number 10 and 2 strikers (RVP and Falcao)

And the formation above can be easily converted to 3-5-2 if needed:
    DDG
    Jones Carrick Evans
    Rafael---------- Young
    Valencia Mata Rooney
    RVP Falcao

Or maybe we wil lstart with the 3-5-2 and change to back 4 if needed..Any one might be possible

Do people believe we won't play 3-5-2 or is this just that everyone wants 4-3-3?

It's obvious LVG is in love with 3-5-2, and we're getting results now. He'll continue with it.
