Pretty much what I'm hoping for here. Jones I would be worried about picking up an injury playing again. Midfield no other options, wingers I want both martial and rashford, then mata should replace Miki after his struggles today.

The fact that we have two wins already and Benfica two losses, makes me think Mourinho will go for an even more defensive setup and will be pleased with giving them the control of the game and just getting a point, more or less like with Liverpool.

Yeah, I’d be happy with resting a few players for Huddersfield - that match is more of a priority since we got six points already.

Would be happy with a bit of rotation.

    De Gea
    Valencia - Lindelof - Smalling - Blind
    Carrick - Herrera
    Lingard - Mata - Rashford
    Lukaku

Carrick was injured for today, so surely won't be fit for Wednesday. Think the midfield picks itself as we are down to the bare bones.

Looking at our calendar later in the month and our injuries in midfield, I have the feeling Mourinho just entered survival mode.

Feel mourinho will have mercy of those cnuts so a boring draw is probably on the cards. They have been pretty terrible mind you. Just survived a 1-0 win against a 3rd division side tonight.

I don't think United should worry too much with this game. Benfica defense is slower than a snail, specially the cbs. Rashford/martial + mikhi + mata will destroy.

They played only 5 of the probable starters on Wednesday.

I wonder if Mourinho's going to keep the 4-2-3-1. Three in midfield in 4-3-3 or even in a strict 3-5-2 seems impossible without some miracle recovery from injury. He could go for 3-4-3 again in order to protect our depleted midfield, although he usually does it just against three at the back teams and Benfica play a flat 4-4-2.

Benfica is passing through an awful awful phase... Ederson, Nelson Semedo and Lindelof haven't been replaced at all

Lack of confidence across supporters, team, directive board... Oh well, expecting a very uneven game

If we win this one, we'll finish top of our group as the next two games are at home. Likely lineup imo would be

    DDG
    Valencia Lindelof Smalling Blind
    Herrera Matic
    Mata Mkhi Martial
    Lukaku
More time for Rashford to rest as he has a knock. Jones should be just used for the PL as far as possible. Blind to come back into the line up. Expecting a 0-2 away win.

Good to have the CL back. Should be a good game and I'm going 2-0 to us. The reverse fixture is sandwiched between two big PL games so a win here would be great.

We should really win against these but I’ll take a draw providing we beat them at home in 2 weeks time. They were perhaps a tad unlucky against CSKA but were absolutely annihilated by Basel last time out. 4 points off them and we’re as good as through to the knockout stages.

Jose was a Porto manager, surely he'll want to win there.
He was also a Benfica manager for a short spell, actually the first job he ever landed as a manager (won the Lisbon derby with Sporting by 3-0) and was dismissed in one of the stupidest decisions ever. He was almost always nice to the club, despite being an adversary while at Porto, and maintains a friendly relationship with the direction, namely by picking lots of its players for transfer through Mendes. It is understood he might have a new spell there, after or before he gets the Portuguese or English national team, just before retiring.

No, after this one we play Benfica at home and then Basel away. CSKA at home is our last game in the group.

Benfica fan here. I expect a bloodbath. We're coming off a difficult win against a third tier team and it's obvious the squad is pushing the manager out. Plus we will be testing RB Douglas alongside 36-year old Luisão who's is finished, so anything not 0-2 or 1-3 is a surprise.
Scared to death of the visit to Old Trafford. Another 5-0 in mind, if not worst.

Why are we playing wednesday ? last time we played wednesday in Moscow ! can't wait for the game to start so that the mood on the forum improves a bit. people are insufferable!

Re the game, i think it'll be a comfortable win for us. getting our mojo back. it'll prepare us for huddersfield next and the spurs game at home.

Really want Matic to get a rest.

Is Carrick back yet? Would prefer him and Herrera in midfield.

    DDG

    Young Lindelof Smalling Blind

    Carrick Herrera

    Mata Lingard Martial

Drop Mhki for this game. It's time he starts earning his game time. He's been bad for a while now and it shouldn't be tolerated.

Oh, sorry. I thought the fixtures just reversed themselves after the first three games. Maybe they have changed that system now.

Will probably never happen as Mou has never played Blind in Midfield, but we need to rest Matic and Valencia IMO and Benfica have been a bit shit.

Not exactly never, he featured him there for a bit in a disastrous Borussia Dortmund friendly in China.

Inverting those wingbacks would make more sense, Grimaldo (on our right) is pretty good and Douglas (on our left) very shaky defensively. Anyhow, I'm convinced Blind, if fit, will play.

Also, those centerbacks would probably align like this: Lindelöf–Smalling–Jones.

Looking forward to watching Lukaku and Rashford against that crappy Benfica defense.

Yea, just like we looked forward to seeing them against that crappy liverpool defense.
Believe me Lovren and Matip are world class players compared to Luisão and Jardel. Luisão used to be very good but he's too old now. Jardel is painfully average. They really miss Lindelof.

    Let’s sell him back. £30m.

No offense to Lindelof, but if he was their best CB last year, then we need to be putting this team to bed.

Should win but a draw would still be a decent result. Beat them at home and then we are nearly through.

Wait..... Luisao and Jardel? That feels like a 1990s defence. It seems they didn't sign a replacement for Lindelof?

I do agree with this, we should try out Mata in the games where we're gonna have possession and Lingard where we're going to counter.

Mkhi should try to earn his place again.
