can't remember the last time we scored there to be honest.
Have we ever scored there?
Last in the Leauge Monday 19th April 1976 Lou Macari 0-1 win
Last in Cup game Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the League Cup 3rd December 2002
Fearing this game, they'll have confidence seeing our performance yesterday, our missing and tired players. They are the 6th best team in the league at home, two points better than us, having played one less. Definately not an easy game.
That being said, it's away where we for some reason are better than at home. Rest Rashford for the City game and hope Martial steps up.
DDG - Young, Baily, Blind, Damien, Shaw - Herrera, Fellaini, Pogba - Martial, Lingard is what I think we'll see
I'd love to see Mkhitaryan start and Tuanzebe instead of Blind because he can't possibly be worse at CB, but I doubt they will.
I think we may have to take a gamble on Rooney for this one if he's fit. Relying on a 19 year old rashford to score every game is putting too much pressure on the lad.
That already happened with a 18-year old Rashford last season, so he's fine. The fixture congestion might be too much though, even for a young player. So we need goals from Micki and the midfield. Would be the perfect time for Martial to wake up, but unfortunately I can't see that happening.
Martial - Mhky - Lingard
Pogba - Herrera
Shaw - Blind - Bialy - Valencia
I could see Rooney starting this, very worried about the back four if anyone gets hurt my guess is Carrick at CB.
Do you give up?
Spoiler: When you open this you will shit bricks (not really)
Manchester United have scored just once in their last four league games at Turf Moor, with that goal coming from Lou Macari in a 1-0 win in April 1976.
Alright, so we don't play there very often, but at least Lawro thinks we will score.
I can see something like this;
Young Bailly Blind Darmian
Lingard Pogba Martial(?)
José has come out and said Young & Herrera will play, which we all expected. Tuanzebe and Fosu-Mensah are pretty much guaranteed to be in the squad as well. Martial will probably be given a start, more due to lack of fresh players than anything. Lingard only played an hour so I think he's in, along with Rooney, Blind, and Darmian. Bailly and Pogba are likely going to have to play again, with Fellaini and de Gea making up the XI.
Darmian Bailly Blind Young
Herrera Fellaini Pogba
Depleted squad, but Mkhitaryan and Rashford available for the last 20 minutes if it's tight gives us some great options.
Anyone fit and reasonably well rested should start. Rashford and Mkhitaryan for last 30 mins if required.
As an absolute minimum we have to match their work-rate.
Carrick, Valencia and Shaw looked exhausted so I'd be concerned if they started.
Is there a pre-match press conference?
It was held together with post Anderlecht. Should've been released at 14:00 BST. Some quotes are out, but haven't found the YT clip yet.
He mentioned needing Tuanzebe. Rooney needed due to his experience even though not 100% fit yet.
Re: Rashford and U21 euros in the summer:
Valencia Bailly Blind Darmian
Lingard Fellaini Young
Thank you very much, I hadn't seen the Anderlecht post match presser. Appreciate the summary.
edit: Thanks @kundalini
Typically the Sunday papers get some unique content that gets an embargo until late on Sat evening. Not sure whether that is still the case.
I think it is usually, but when we have one on Thu night after an EL match, the whole pre-match presser in embargoed till 2PM Friday. As far as I know.
Agree on him with Rashford quotes. I was sure that would be his opinion. Also it's better for Rashford to stay with the team to prepare for the next season rather playing in a competition that will give him nothing new imo. He already has enough experience of such age and should be aiming forward now.
Heard nothing about Rojo injury? Is there any updates?
Apparently he has a serious ligament injury and he won't be playing this season again.
The fact you'd play Rooney, ever, is beyond me. Exactly, he's 19, what's the need in resting him, sub him off if we need a defender or at around 60 mins anyway, don't you see how reliant we are on Rashford and Lingards movement recently. No one in the squad, not even lazy Martial gives us that intensity, movement and speed. Rashford and Mkhi need to play.
I think this is what we'll see.
Says he has the same injury has Zlatan on this website.
Mensah Bailly Blind
Valencia Herrera Fellaini Pogba Young
With Rojo is gone, and both Smalling and Jones are still injured, I thought it will be better to play 3 at the back. I'm not too convinced with Bailly and Blind as a pair for now. Blind hasn't play much as a centre back this season so probably go for 3 at the back.
Sean Dyche previews the match:
Just seems a bit strange to go "we're short on centre backs... let's play 3 at the back!"
Haha. I know but that's how it works.
Mensah - Bailly - Blind
Valencia - Herrera - Pogba - Young
Rashford - Martial
It does and it doesn't.
You tend to play 3 when you're not confident you have 2 good ones, so its safety in numbers.
We have Bailly. Blind is not a dominant centre back, so positioning him, and a similar player on the other side, both more at home wide sort of makes sense.
It'll certainly be an interesting lineup tomorrow.
One of Rashford and MK will surely have to start, even though both have put in big shifts 2 days ago.
Get through this with whatever we can, play the best possible X1 Thursday, then we can rotate v Swansea. In theory!
I'm amazed people are suggesting Rashford should start on the bench.
He's 19 so fatigue won't be an issue plus he'll be on a massive high after the Anderlecht game, if I was him and got dropped for the game I'd be livid!
Hope Rooney is no where near the starting 11, Martial starts and TFM/Axel get some minutes. I'd also like to see Shaw start but I think it's more likely Young will be at LB.
We need to be as up for it as we were against Chelsea, huge 3 points at stake.
Rashford will start for sure, even if he is a little fatigued. The alternatives have not been exactly convincing this season to say the least. Plus the fact that he will be brimming with confidence after the past weeks exploits.
The main reason, though, is that we're very tired, so most probable we'll sit at the back ‘comfortably’, and then hope for some counterattacks.
All the people with 3 at the back have to acknowledge that right now that option implies playing Darmian as wingback.
Without Ibrahimović, and playing in a system that benefits Rashford's style, the most obvious substitute for the kid is Martial as center-forward. Rooney would imitate Ibrahimović lack of pace quite well, though.
Went for a 4-0 win.
I'm not so sure he will start. He'll be probably more useful late in the game, if we hold the fort before. And it might be risk in terms of injuries to play him so much, before the away City game where he's expected to cause chaos for Stones and friends.
Absolutely. I'd keep Rashford on the bench, he looked shattered at the end of the game and we just can't risk losing him to muscle injury.
2 games a week from now on is going to be really tough. We could really do with a youngster grabbing the opportunity.... if any are given one.
