I would start Rooney because I just think he's playing better and Falcao deserves his chance. van Persie has been pretty poor for Netherlands and United so far so that's my mind made up.

I would start Rooney and RVP - Falcao to come in for RVP in the second half. He needs to be eased in slowly in the next month or so. Eventually I expect him to start over RVP, but some rotation with Rooney is possible too. I expect the default sub at around the hour mark to be one striker for another, so all three will get enough minutes and the competition will keep them sharp - I'm not a big fan of Rooney in the number 10 role - Mata should have that nailed down with Januzaj getting some minutes there as well. If one of them gets injured I expect Wilson to get some minutes too.

For Leicester I expect the same team with probably only Blackett dropped for Shaw (if fit enough) and Rojo at CB. Smalling for Blackett and Rojo at the LB is possible too, again fitness permitting.

I voted for a 1-2 victory. I'm expecting a really tough game having seen them vs Chelsea, Everton and Arsenal. Oh and they beat Stoke away.

They play with a lot of energy and will actually press us so it'll be interesting to see how we fare. For too long when teams have pressed us we've been appalling. I hope with the new players and manager we'll cope better. I can't wait for the game.

My prayers were answered and we are back to playing with 4 at the back!!! I was sure van gaal would stubbornly persist with the 5 for another few matches at least. Rafael with Herrera helping out on the right is such an enormous improvement on Valencia/Fletcher and ditto young/cleverley< di maria and rojo on the left. Blind kept things ticking over very nicely too. He was even seen passing the ball forward a few times after getting it from our defenders!?! Madness!!!

I'm so much more confident that we can cause teams serious problems again (if we can field our best 11 at least) and that the fear factor about playing United will be back, especially at old trafford.
    Very exciting times!!!!
I'm going 3-1 to United with falcao opening his account. I'd really like to see any of adnan/pereira/wilson get some minutes if we do go a few goals up. They have all been really impressive in the reserves/u18s and first team cameos since the season started....

    Hi,
A Fox here just come to see your thoughts :-)
I recall my 3 visits to Old Trafford.
a 5-1 defeat in the league cup
a 1-1 draw in the league where our full back (Mike Whitlow scored with his backside) and a 1-0 WIN for LCFC with a Tony Cottee Goal.

My memories of you visiting us are not as good although we did beat you 3-1 in the league cup when Heskey and Claridge linked up for a lovely goal. :-)

I think you will win but you will have to work harder than you did against QPR.

Hopefully our pace up front will cause you some problems and maybe we will be able sneak a win :-)

Your attack is already giving me sleepless nights though......

Leicester are a very well organised counter attacking side and some posters are guilty of overreacting to our win because this won't be anywhere near as easy.

My memories of Leicester are basically Martin O'Neill, Neil Lennon and Muzzy Izzet. Oh and Heskey. So that's how long it's been since they've been up.

Just need to get Forest and Leeds back now and we're laughing (imagine getting to beat Leeds twice a year?).

    Fantasy football bargain par extraordinaire.
True. Every 'smaller' club seemed to have more 'fancy' players than they do now. That's probably just nostalgia making me think that though.

Yeah they did. I wasn't mocking Forest there by the way, the way I've structured that post implies that I'm including them with Leeds in the 'beat them twice a year' sentiment when I wasn't intending to. I'd just like to see clubs like Forest join Leicester in the premier league.

i wouldn't mind someone mocking forest :-) i would like them to be up too tbh, its teams like QPR i hate :-) (and was glad to see you stuff them, just wish Barton had played cos you would have scored a few more).

I am just happy to be back in the premier league :-) it has been a while since i have been this excited about the weekends. :-)

after a trip to stoke and reading their forum...i now dislike them too....they have a cheek moaning that a team was too physical with them when they have shawcross permanently have a handfull of a players shirt....and calling us an average championship team......winning the league with 102 points is slightly better than average. I know they feel they should beat us but they are not exactly world beaters even though they consider themselves a 'top 8' side to quote. I definitely dislike them now!!! RANT OVER

I like Leicester....a good ol fashioned English side....if there is still one.

I expect us to win by the odd goal though.
I think that's a likely outcome. The optimist in me thinks we could sneak a draw

That match was the pits! The 10? year old me was absolutely gutted that day. I used to actually get pretty angry when United lost back then (which thankfully for my family wasn't that often, apart from in europe!) Collymore, Brian Roy, Stuart Pearce.... That was a pretty decent forrest team to be fair. I thought when we got it back to 1-2 that we'd go on to win but it wasn't to be after all.

I want RVP to start and prove he is not on a decline. He needs a goal for his confidence and self belief and hopefully it happens.

My first ever game was United Vs Leicester in 1963.

Be very interesting to see how you guys play, looked the best of the promoted clubs so far. However, I remember the start Hull had a number of years ago and then they sort of bottled it.

I would very much like to see Januzaj in the starting eleven sometime soon.
But van Gaal will most likely go for Rooney in this match.
So this is what I expect our lineup will look like..

    --------------De Gea
    Rafael---Evans---Rojo---Shaw
    ---------------Blind
    --------Herrera---Di Maria
    ---------------Mata
    ------Falcao---------Rooney

Leicester will be a tougher game than QPR, but I am sure we will get the 3 points if we play like last Sunday. Our pressing game was was quite impressive against QPR, it will be needed even more against a well drilled Leicester side.
I am hoping for some points to be dropped by the teams involved in Europe this week, might just help us reduce the gap. Go United go...really feeling upbeat after a long time

I am excited but realistic, staying up is the target and if we can manage that then it will be an awesome season :-)
I am sure we will upset some teams and get rolled over by some that we feel we could beat but i would rather it happen in the premier league rather than the championship :-)

don't they have an asian suggar daddy who bought them back into the PL? They won't be here if they still were a serious and fair working football club.
No, Pearson took us to the Premiership. Our owners have helped greatly in other ways but we haven't thrown money at players to get here. We did take that route with Sven and we haven't managed to shake it off since apparently, but the owners have learnt from that and we weren't near the top spenders from last year in the Championship even.

Team from last year that won us the league:

    Schmeichel

De Laet - Wasilewski - Morgan - Schlupp

    Mahrez - James - Drinkwater - Knockaert

    Vardy - Nugent
Only two of those players came from Sven's reign of throwing money at whoever moves and can kick a football (Schmeichel and Nugent, the rest of them being cleared out by Pearson), 3 of them we got from you for cheap (Matty James, Danny Drinkwater, and Ritchie De Laet), Schlupp's a youth product, along with Andy King and Liam Moore who both played a part last year and are playing a big part this year, Knockaert and Mahrez were great finds by our scouting network (Mahrez costing a rumoured £300,000 and later in the year playing for Algeria in the World Cup), and Vardy came from non-league football for a little over a million. We have rich owners but they haven't exactly done anything mad to get us here.

Hoping to see a diamond with:

    De Gea

    Rafael
    Evans
    Rojo
    Shaw

    Blind
    Herrera
    Di Maria
    Mata

    Rooney
    Falcao

Van Persie drops out only because Rooney and Mata both played well and Rooney/van Persie as a pair up front hasn't really worked out so far. Would still give him half an hour and hope him and Falcao get a goal each with a clean sheet. If Smalling's fit enough to make the bench maybe give him some minutes if the situation's right.

im not expecting a clean sheet against the foxes .... but i think we have finally found our shooting boots. confidence is high the squad is missing only a few players now. i think we will outscore leicester. we need to start getting the fear into these teams. too many times have "weaker teams" decided to have a go at us cuz of a perceived lack of threat. need to have them shaking in the boots again.

this will be a better test for the likes of blind and rojo who for the most part had little to do sunday, i suspect herrera and di maria to bring there form into this game , rooney looks decent as does mata, and el tigre looks really hungry . would like to see a good cameo from januzaj as he deserves it and maybe a start for shaw tho maybe blackett doesnt deserve to be dropped.

this may change after fridays presser

    but

    de Gea
    Rafael Evans Rojo Shaw
    Herrera Blind di Maria
    Mata
    Rooney Falcao
unfortunately rvp gets the drop and blackett. but i really think falcao will set the stage alight as he seems perfect for the prem... and i dont see why he wont destroy that Leicester backline

I would keep the same line up in defence. Continuity could be key. Plus Rojo and Di Maria seem to have a great understanding, shame to break it up...

The same midfield that dismantled qpr. We have kept a clean sheet from our past two games so defensivley we are settling in. Qpr only created one clear chance. If shaw is fit enough to start, i would like to see rojo and blackett as our starting CB partnership. Smalling might start but he might not be at 100%.
If we go with 41212, rooney and RVP even though robin isn't at his best, Falcao is still not match fit and probably would be wise to bring him on off the bench untill he starts to look sharp. It would've been good to see him bury that chance and score on debut but at least we saw Di maria and Herrera score thier first goals for united.

Reading one of their forums and they reckon they can cause us some problems with their pace. We do look extremely open when the opposition run at us, Traore did it a couple of times and we just backed off him. Evans and the rest really need to pick up their games or we will struggle. Can't see them standing off us as they saw what we can do with space against QPR, and we've been shite when pressed so far this season. This one game a week malarky is shite

If you have noticed that don't you think the staff might have noticed it as well? This one game a week malarky is good in this sense because we have an entire week to work on our weakness without interruption.

I thought 3rd week of September was his initial diagnosis and he started training last week didn't he?
started training is a bit too far-fetched, he just made his first steps without the protection boot. Running and recovery stuff, but he is still far away from the first team training. No chance that he will make it this month, LvG seems to really let the players play when they are match fit. I think that the 3rd week of September was the date til he could start training again.

Blackett has played well enough to keep his place in the team, so I would leave Shaw on the bench. Rojo looked solid at LB and has the strength and speed to hold off the Foxes.

Falco needs games, he should play in a mid-week reserve match and then come on around the 60th Minute again.

So I will probably stick with the same team as QPR. But Evans really needs to step it up, because he hasn't produced yet as a United player and he is 26.

Well yeah I clearly meant from a spectator point of view. Obviously it should help us with our weaknesses but we still need to improve considerably at the back or we will really struggle against the better teams. Time will tell I guess.

Blackett will be dropped for this. Rojo and Evans as CBs, Shaw back at LB.
