No idea how that is still 0-0. Both teams should have scored. We look wank playing out from the back, mostly because our CMs can't play football. Should obviously be doing better with that talent in our squad but we know Ole's not getting the best out of this team for a long time. Must be patient and hope for some individual brilliance.

Sloppy half and the Shaw injury is worrying

Think we need to drop Pogba back, take Fred out, bring Cavani on

I wonder what our first half stats are the past 20-30 games. My gut says its below average at best.

Pitiful performance. Should have conceded at least 2.

Varane has solved nothing in that defence. We're still a jittery mess who can only play out from the back 1 time out of 10.

Decent game. Villas formation causing problems but if it were 1-1 then no side could complain
The midfield duo of McFred is simply not good enough. If we play Pogba against decent sides we need to move the ball faster and play two forwards instead of three.

Need more patience and better decision making when we get near the box. Too much of that half was just hit and hope and it would bounce off an Aston Villa player... just get playing some football, get the passing going and create some good chances... there's a reason we've had a load of shots but hardly any on target.

No control in the Utd game. Plenty of dangerous moments and some very good play at times but it is super open and Villa are a live threat. Making for a great watch.

We really need Rashford back in the front 3 as the lack of pressing that Greenwood and Ronaldo bring is causing issues. Sancho won't help in that regard but the space in this game is made for him as an attacker, need someone who is going to be a little more patient and probing to take advantage of the space instead of trying to rush everything.

A lot of criticism of the midfield but is has been a weird game, front to back quickly from both sides.

I think this head injury rule has to also come with common sense. Ings was went down holding his head to a nothing foul, stopping the attack and using up 40 secs of the stoppage time which wasn't added on just like the other day.

Not pretty to watch but we should be up 1-0. Villa have to feel great about how the first half.

Fred plays against Villa when they have the ball and for Villa when he has it.

McTominay isn't imposing himself on the game at all. None of the progressive passing he showed in the West Ham game. Completely invisible.

Pogba has just sort of drifted around and not done anything noteworthy bar the massive chance right at the end.

    TL;DR: Midfield is an issue.

Solid enough first half, though with 2 horrific mistakes that really should have been punished and we were lucky to not be behind. They only have 4 shots but 3 of them were clear cut chances which isn't great, meanwhile we only had Greenwoods (which he rushed) and a couple of half chances.

Shaw was the worst player on the pitch while he was on. Fred needs to sharpen up. Maguire as well.
How long do we need to say this about Fred? It’s every fecking game. Ever since Wolves he’s looked vulnerable and poor in just about every dept.

He must tear it up in training that’s all I can say because he’s sure as hell doesn’t in matches

That was a strange first half. We could've been 2-0 up but Villa could also have been 2-0 up.

Midfield is becoming a glaring problem for us. It gives the likes of Villa that incentive to push up knowing they can rob the pockets of McTominay and Fred time and time again.

another one of those games, that if we had a proper CM who could do the dirty work, but also pass the ball and facilitate our counters, we would be so much better off. seems a waste of all that attacking talent if we cant get the the ball without it all being a rushed and off the cuff, or waiting for a mistake...

    Greenwood - excellent
Varane, Maguire, Bruno, DDG - good
    McFred, AWB, Ronaldo - average
    Pogba, Shaw - poor
Not sure I agree with some of them but I do agree with Pogba.

Normally, if Pogba performs, the team plays well. He's unplayable when he's on it. He needs to step it up.

This commentator twat is ridiculous. Every time a Villa player goes down it's "Yehh, [United player] is claiming his innocence, but that's a foul for me." Every time a United player goes down: "[Villa player] saying he went down easy. Might have a point."
Glad I’m not the only one to notice it. Also if I have to hear “Michael Dean” one more fecking time. Jog on you wa**er!

I didn't forget. Amad is injured and Pellistri is out on loan so we'd still be struggling for chances and goals early on.

The Saul thread is 42 pages long. Plenty wanted him.
Not many wanted him as first choice. He was last on the list for most. Amad got injured in the last days of the window mate.

Decent half, but we really should be putting away one of those chances.

Surprisingly enough, i think AWB stood out in that half. Some good involvements in both ends of the pitch
Yep, he's been excellent since Young Boys.

There are some incredibly toxic people on redcafe lately, it's just astonishing.
City and Chelsea are doing feck all, 0 shots on target for the first half. Yet there are some posters here wanking over their "amazing setup" and "looking well organized".

We have 15 shots vs 4 for Villa (3 of them coming from individual mistake, not because Villa's coach outsmarted Ole), we've had much more possession and yet the same people claim that "Villa is dominating us".

I mean, c'mon. We should easily be 2-0 up already. We are winning this in 2nd half, and comfortably.

Fred needs to be replaced by VDB and Sancho needs to come on surely.

Hectic game. We're playing fine. Just unlucky not to have the ball in the back of the net yet.

Really hope Shaw's injury is nothing serious.

We'll get the job done 2nd half.

We would be free scoring by now had Greenwood squared it to Bruno.
You can make that kind of argument for every single game. And Ole used to make that argument all the time with his "small margins". Greenwood was right to take on the shot as that's a bread and butter striker chance and he's a lethal finisher. No one would have said a thing had he put it in the corner, as he tends to do.

Yep AWB going forward has been excellent considering he's by himself all the time.

I'm not anti Scottish, I just wanted Moyes out.
They've had 4 shots, only one of which was on target and we really should have had a couple of tap ins with better decision-making. You're laying it on a little thick to say we're lucky not to be behind.
On target.. that so misleading though. The Maguire mistake was a sitter, the cross they missed, just cause he sent the ball over the goal posts infont of an empty goal makes it an of target shot even though it was also a sitter.

Pogba also not really into the game or doing much when he gets it. Need more width from him, or that side. Bring on Lingard or Sancho for him, and Matic for Fred as Fred is always just so shakey.

What? AWB has been very good so far alongside Varane.
Maguire almost gifted them a goal but you say he’s been good?
That was on De Gea and anyway Maguire was otherwise very good aside from that one moment. He’s cut out loads of chances.

    How we doing?
We are shit, not coached, not bothered, no idea, no passion, no desire, world claaaaasssss players all over the pitch but shite manageeeeer. Look at other game, soooo well coached, with no world class players at all. Just brilliant managers who win every game while their teams are well Oiled machines.

This is the exact type of game he should be in the two imo.

We need someone who can pass back there

He was but that’s the dilemma. Too many players having erratic games from one match to the next. You never know who it’s going to be next match

Fred is in a very bad form right now. Everything he touches turn to shit. Matic on maybe.
