MEN says that we haven't had the same starting XI for three games in a row since the first half of the 06-07 season. That's pretty incredible.

As for those pointing out that we have six days' rest after this, if you have an athlete on the edge of injury, that doesn't matter. Yeah, they might have six days, but if they get hurt in this game, it may take two weeks to get them back. Of all the games left, this is the "easiest" match on paper, not only because of their position on the table, but their form and our are going in totally opposite directions. We do have a few quality subs (though no more than three or four) and I can see him making a few changes. Since he pulled Pogba, Fernandes, and Shaw at 60 minutes, I don't expect it to be them.

Ole will probably go with the same squad and see if we can put the game away by HT then make subs.

I can't speak for others but I was talking about the six days in the context of resting players from the starting 11, with a view to playing them in the next match or bringing them on if we need a goal etc.

Obviously, if the data shows that a player is an injury risk that is a different thing.

From his comments, I think any changes he makes will be on a fitness basis and so trying to predict who he'll leave out is practically impossible as we don't have that knowledge.

I could see Fred or McTominay for Matic. Otherwise I think it's a case of trying to win the game early then resting players. If James is going to play I could see him being back-up on the left in future, more dangerous there.

Definitely in favour of resting Matic and Shaw in this one, potentially even Rashford.

In an ideal world we would play the same team as v Brighton & Sheffield Utd. But there's no way that same team could then line up against Aston Villa and Southampton, both of which are tougher games.

This is probably the only game we can be somewhat confident in resting players in.

Fred and Williams for Matic and Shaw, based on OGS’ press conference

Did he name who it was then who had slight knocks?
No, he didn’t. But he mentioned that he might play “one or two” of those who performed very well pre-lockdown - so it can’t be Daniel James. So logically, it’s Fred and Williams.

    I'm going to go with:

    De Gea
    Williams
    Maguire
    Bailly
    AWB

    McTominay
    Matic
    Pogba/Bruno

    Rashford
    Martial
    James

Feel like we'll rotate each game leading up to the Chelsea game so we have a fully fit team for the semi final. We'll likely make less changes than we did vs Norwich as it nearly bit us in the ass, but we'll make enough so key players get enough rest.

He can rest players if we’re winning comfortably. So, put the onus on those players to make that happen as early as they can.

We need to rest Matic. When he is fresh he is great. When he is run to the ground, his drop in quality is very steep.

    Why would you start James?

Incredible indeed. The last United team to start 3 league games in a row.

I think that stat from MEN is wrong as we played the following 11 three times in a row in the PL this season:

De Gea, Shaw, Maguire, Lindelof, AWB, Fred, McTominay, Lingard, Rashford, James, Martial

This was for Man City (A), Everton (H) and Watford (A).

After Ole’s presser today, it looks like we are going to see a few changes made to the starting lineup. The only ones I’d personally make are both Williams & Fred in for Shaw & Matic. The rest of the team remains as it is until the game is all but safely won then we can have the luxury to take off the likes of Pogba, Fernandes, Martial, Rashford etc. I’m of course like everyone else expecting us to win tomorrow but would like us to absolutely hammer them by 5+ goals. The confidence in our players is absolutely sky high and they are playing with a lot of freedom. Bournemouth look as good as down for me.

    Starting XI

    De Gea

    Wan-Bissaka
    Lindelof
    Maguire
    Williams

    Fred
    Pogba

    Greenwood
    Fernandes
    Rashford

    Martial

    subs:
    Romero
    Dalot
    Bailly
    Shaw
    McTominay
    Matic
    Mata
    James
    Ighalo

    Score Prediction:
    Manchester United 5-0 Bournemouth

Well why not? We're paying his wages and he's not going to find form sat on the bench.
But we’re playing a team that are going to set out to contain us & sit deep. Playing a winger whose one & only weapon is using his pace to exploit space behind the fullback seems redundant. We’d honestly be better playing James against Chelsea.

How's he supposed to learn and adapt to playing against the low block, if he doesn't play against teams playing that system?

ive put Williams in for Shaw and Fred for Bruno (who can still come on if we are struggling) I think we can still win this match without Bruno at a canter. I’d be tempted to rest Matic for McSauce too if I was Ole. This is one of the easier games we’ve got left. We should have plenty of the ball and at home. Rashford to get back to scoring ways. 3-1

He is not supposed to. It’s pretty obvious that his Calibre is well below Man Utd needs, so James is only a temporary solution as a squad player. He will be sold in a year or two, most likely.

The Caf with its obsession of selling newly arrived players. You don't even know how he'd look like in 2 years time. Same things were being said about Fred after his first year struggling yet he's managed to integrate himself well in the squad. You'd think people would start learning at some point but same old.

but with Fred, we were talking about a player with caps for Brazil. With Daniel, it’s a bit different.
He has pace, but doesn’t have good shooting, dribbling or ball control abilities, and also has a tendency to play on the touch line (detrimental to our system).

With attackers, talent is visible almost immediately, and then you just need to nurture it. With James... don’t know your opinion, but personally I see a relatively limited player, which is not an asset for our combination play. He is not “shit” (of course not), but neither a star (even in the making)

He's not supposed to learn, adapt and improve as a player, seriously?

He came in last summer after having to sadly deal with the passing of his dad, adapt to new surroundings and a new training regime.

Then he was heavily relied upon to perform when we had too many injuries and dragged us through some games with his goals, I'd say he's been a solid signing so far.

I also see him as a confidence player (something he's currently lacking) and the lockdown break came at a good and bad time for him, good time as he needed a break and a bad time as he scored against LASK and you could see the relief when he scored.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with being a solid squad player for United.

    He's also 21.

Have you not learned you shouldn't write off 21yr olds yet?
