We’ve spent 60-70m on two new centre halves since JM joined and are still no closer to knowing what our first choice combination is. We also play a failed winger at left back.
Jones and Bailly are our first choice combination. The problem is in consistent injuries to our CBs since last SAF years. I don't think even during those last SAF years we had a consistent 2 CBs starting all games. As long as those who play perform, what's the problem ?

Yeah, playing off the right. He's drifted centrally from that position a few times and looked good. Ibra could play second striker with Lukaku up top, but wouldn't surprise me to see Ibra up top, Mata in the middle, Rashford left and Lukaku right.
He did that for Everton too

Strange lineup. We do indeed have a few injuries, but this team really makes it evident that we need some new players in sooner rather than later.

Our individual players have too much talent compared to Burnley though. We'll batter this lot no matter who we play from the first team squad. Won't be anything like last season.

    4-0.

We shouldn't be playing Mata, Rom and Ibra (as well as Matic) at the same time really, IMO. It will slow us down quite a bit. Hopefully there is a plan to get around the lack of mobility.

Lukaku has a good top speed but we haven't seen him run much so far. He seems to be told to stay put.. maybe we'll see some of his diagonal movement today
Lukaku is rapid, as is Rashford, there's plenty of pace in the side, if utilised correctly. But as Burnley will sit very deep, it won't be an issue, as you can't get round the back if there sitting that far back. We'll need aerial power and a bit of guile to unlock that defence.

It also allows us to play the long-ball tactic to more attacking positions if we are forced to go that way.

    -Lukaku---Mata---Rashford
    ----------Zlatan

Way I see it is that Mata might play where Lukaku is, Zlatan where Mata is and Lukaku up top, but that all three could interchange without many problems (except Mata as a 9). Very fluid front four as Rashford can play 9 if needed.

Not true. You’re implying that Jose buys players without a thought. Given that 2 of our defenders were SAfs signings, 2 were LVGs and 2 are Jose’s, it’s always likely to look a mish mash of styles. He can’t just get rid of all his squad.
I don’t understand what style Mourinho is trying to institute. His signings are very much a mixed bag at the moment. I also don’t have any faith that he will stick around to see through what he may be trying to do.

Hoping for a good performance from Zlatan. Loses the ball a little much for my liking. Needs to hold it up well for Rashford, Pogba and Lukaku.

Hope I am wrong but expect the game to be a grind. 1-0 or 2-1 to us.

I agree and tbh, I would love to see that front four, but Rashford to be in the place of Zlatan and Martial on the left. Don't think it will ever happen though.

Burnley shouldn't stand a chance. Too many injuries and it was evident against Tottenham that they aren't up for this level of competition. They are too good to be underestimated (like for instance Bristol City) but not good enough to take any points at Old Trafford.

I look forward to seeing Zlatan again. I think he still have a couple of seasons on elite level in him. Look at the pure power in his free kick against Bristol City. He still got it.

I don't tend to ask for rivers but I'm on my iPad today.

Anyone willing to give me a helping hand to give me an iPad friendly link for today? It's the season for giving after all.

We won’t be seeing that combination for a good while. If you can’t hang your hat on these players to stay fit then they shouldn’t be at the club. Jones and Smalling are lucky to be at United for that reason alone, while Rojo isn’t really up to it. We have heaps of depth but very little reliable quality.

Ahh it turns out I have done my line-up prediction! I thought it had slipped past me.

Interesting to see how Zlatan copes today, plenty of players out there with points to prove too.

As long as any CB we put in the defense always perform and never fails, I don't find it a problem at all to not have a 2 fixed CBs starting every game.

Should ship Rojo and Lindelof in the summer and replace him with Van Dyk.

Mourinho's state of mind in the press conferences and interviews is worrisome.

He knows the league is gone which at this stage of the season is unreal and I imagine he saw them challenging right to the end.
