Chelsea looks like the better football playing team, but they lack the quality to punish us. I can see us finishing things of with a counter next half if we stay solid in the back and Chelsea aren’t clinical.

Our defenders baring Shaw has been the best players

Two teams that have been poor overall. We look very sloppy. For me Pereira isn’t good enough for this league, he’s too weak and looks to go down as his first option.

We are lucky to be ahead, just hope we get 3 points from this game and move on.

Entertaining match. AWB and Maguire class so far, while Pogba has been shite. Still worried where the goals will come from this season.

Honestly Chelsea look more like the side we're trying to be - hard pressing, quick, courageous - but does it matter when we're leading? Much tactical work needs to be done, AWB is absolute world class definitely top 3 in the world (with Walker and TAA) might be even the best! PP with some slick touches, flair and technical masterclass, but he's trying too hard to entertain and made some mistakes. I expect him to decide the match with some Pirlo-esque through ball in second half.

Quality has been poor. Pereira non existent. Lingard also almost invisible par a very good touch. Martial and Rashford poor on the ball. AWB, Maguire and Lindelöf have been good. A shame we completely ignored our attackt his window. Would BADLY need some quality.

AWB a big plus that half. Maguire and Lindelof looks like could turn into some partnership.

Light in midfield. Giving the ball away too easily.

Potential in attack, just a bit disjointed at the moment so nothing coming off

Other than the scoreline it’s been poor.

Hardly any pressing, losing the ball cheaply when we’ve got possession and our general play is way too slow.

The problem with that half is that there are all of the obvious things on display we knew we needed to address this summer. No proper right winger, weak midfield, very little goal threat. I'm happy we're (somehow) ahead but it's not exactly a half of football that makes me think we're fixing any of last year's issues, apart from in defense.

We need a player that has the ability to dictate the game. Pogba and McTominay are not those players.

Don't think that half was as bad as some are saying. Both teams look sloppy in possession. We over play in the final third, it seems like rashford, martial and Pogba all want to beat 3 men before making a pass or shooting.

Midfield is the obvious problem, we just don't have the quality to dominate with the three we have on the field.

Looking forward to the second half, hopefully we improve our ball retention. Thank god the Premier League is back. This weekend has been great!

    We need to calm down.

Maguire and Wan-Bissaka have been very impressive.

Pogba, please keep it simple and change your boots.

Martial and Rashford need to stop overcomplicating attacks between each other.
The only good summary of the match so far in the entire thread.

Matic is better than Mct. Slow yes, but far much better on the ball, can shield the ball and has better positioning.

Oh look, wanky complaints from our residential whingers.

Dodgy first 15, but other than a few mistakes which we can put down to first game nerves, we’ve looked decent.

We are just playing nervous. It is a young team after all.

We need to have a few wins under our belt to start building confidence.

Rashford has had a real poor game IMO. Nothing he tried came off. Martial’s finishing (which is what he is now responsible for) hasn’t been good. We seem to have been caught off guard with how good Chelsea pressed us, which is weird.

Poor half, lets hope we can show up in the second. Lucky to be in the lead at this point.

AWB is an absolute unit defending. His attacking leaves a lot to be desired though .

I’d drop to 4-2-3-1 and take of pereira and bring on James to force the game wider and scare the shit out of the Chelsea defence also might solidify your midfield a bit

Still no identity or set way of playing. All mish mash and making it up on the spot. Changed formation about three times in that half.
Rashford and Martial have been careless but they look a threat. Perreira and Lingard might as well not be playing . We’ve shafted Pogba and Mctominay into deep roles when they’re more effective going forward, in order To start perreira and Lingard. Why do we handicap ourselves ?

Entertaining first half, we're still finding ourselves but there are glimpses of improvement.

It's so nice to have a proper RB!

I still buy it, just that we were slow on our lorries in getting them!
Just think it’s convenient rhetoric cause we were never going to spend the £.

We’re looking for midfielders that’ll make this team better, we’re not looking to add a Messi.

I’m no scout but from watching the Premier League this weekend I can see midfielders that would improve us, let alone in other leagues around europe.

We were never spending the money this summer & saying we would have for ‘the right guy’ is insulting.

Martial and Rashford got into good areas but they're too busy trying fecking skills.

Which one's it going to be? As the season progresses, will Maguire's cool head and AWB's athleticism and confidence translate to the rest of the team? Or will they be sucked into the vortex of Lingard Athletic?

    Am I missing the joke
I mean people are always bleating on about Matic and Mata slowing our midfield down and holding the team back.

But our midfield has been especially slow and none existent today. Hence not exclusively the fault of Mata and Matic as they’re not even playing.

I don’t really see how you can’t see the joke.

We are hanging on here. Them hitting the woodwork twice is not a good sign. It's a good thing we strengthened at the back. Not sure we'd be winning still with Young and Smalling in this back four.

Our midfield has not been able to hold the ball or control the flow of play. I'd take Andreas off for James and let him run the right flank. Chelsea look as jittery as us at the back. James' pace would definitely exploit that.

This feels like the end of last season still. Waited months and it feels like nothing has changed. It's all just so boring. :boring:
