    West Ham United Football Club (nicknamed The Irons, The Hammers, and The Academy of Football) are a professional football club based in Upton Park, East London. They were founded in 1895 by foreman and local league referee Dave Taylor and owner Arnold Hills as Thames Ironworks F.C. - a strictly amateur football club with a team featuring a number of works employees. During the summer of 1898, Thames Ironworks F.C. became a professional outfit for the first time, to match their new status as members of the Southern League Second Division, and were promoted to the First Division at the first attempt following a decision to enlarge the top division of the Southern League to 19 teams. After growing disputes over the running and financing of the club in June 1900, Thames Ironworks F.C. resigned from the Southern League and were officially wound up. On 5 July 1900 they reformed under the new name of West Ham United and accepted an offer of the Southern League place left vacant by Thames Ironworks.

    West Ham's most successful period started with the appointment of Ron Greenwood in 1961 - leading to FA Cup, League Cup and Cup Winners' Cup titles - with youth team graduates Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters at the forefront. Their nickname The Academy of Football pays homage to the club's proud tradition in English football for playing entertaining, attacking football - and the success of the club in coaching future greats - which includes that aforementioned trio of World Cup winners, Trevor Brooking, Paul Ince, Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Jermaine Defoe and Michael Carrick. West Ham's most prominent rivals are local clubs Millwall (Dockers derby - one of the longest-standing and most bitter in English football), Chelsea (East versus West London rivalry), and Tottenham Hotspur (East versus North London derby). They played their home games at the now demolished Boleyn Ground (often referred to as Upton Park) from 1904 to 2016, and moved to the London Olympic Stadium at the start of the 2016/ 2017 League season.

    Dour Moyes managed team won't allow this game to be as open. So Man United will have to be a lot more clinical and fingers crossed Martinez is fit as without him it's chaos in defence.

    If nobody is injured, then same lineup. Very few players I'd feel comfortable rotating with our backups really. Wan Bissaka for Dalot and Maguire for Varane are basically the only ones where we probably wouldn't see a huge drop off, opponent dependent. If Mount was ever fit you could argue that he could cover for Bruno, even though there'd still be a drop off. The keepers as Onana is a bit shit anyway. So yeah. Same lineup for every remaining game this season.

    I really hope West Ham start with that awful system they had tonight. It was so bad, four dms and no width and they gave up so many openings. If that happens and we attack as we did tonight we should beat them by a few.

    Let’s take the positivity into the weekend. Man Utd win. Could be anywhere from 1-0 to 5-4. But another 3pts in the bag.

    Going to a different test as we would be up against a low block . Set pieces are going to be massive since it's a major weakness for us and one of their strengths. We need to play well and go into a comfortable lead (not sure what that is though) otherwise it could again become nervy and we could crumble.

    Need a win - and nothing less - to prove that the problems have only been down to injuries (I'm far from convinced although of course it has a made a big difference) and it would be nice to put together some sort of a winning run.... I can barely remember at time when we we put together, oh, let's say, five PL wins back-to-back

    Why would a win vs West Ham at home prove that?

    We've seen many of the same issues over the past 3 games with them back.

    Of course United will improve a bit with a less hectic fixture schedule and more options to choose from. We have enough evidence over the past 12 months to know that it's not just injuries why we've been out of form for almost a year.

    I have no doubt that United will win. Moyes got his customary win vs United already this season.

    Same 11. We are definitely conceding but I feel we may have a little confidence now with the players back so I’m going 3-2.

    Would love Onana to be dropped but it won’t happen, not as much as I would like to never ever see Antony play for us again. Atrocious player and worst buy ever for me.

    I'd go with the same starting line-up, assuming everyone is fit. I really hope ETH doesn't do something daft like starting McTominay or Antony.

    Out of nowhere the team has settled slightly and the first eleven is easy to pick.

    Rashford/Hojlund/Garnacho collectively over the last 3 outings have been good.

    Mainoo and Casemiro behind is also working well.

    Hopefully Martinez is ok for this game, but maybe 2 games in a few days is pushing our luck, so a rest wouldn't be the worst decision. Keep Shaw/Varane/Dalot the same, and 1 change to the backline should be manageable (even if it is the best one being rested)

    I expect this'll be a tough, tight match as Moyes' West Ham won't leave many gaps for our wide players to get in behind.

    It's quite a quick turnaround (fortunately both clubs in the same situation), but if everyone's got through it OK then hopefully it'll allow us to have a rare occasion of going with the same team.

    Tough to see how we could make any changes to actually strengthen, as that was pretty much our strongest line up (Mount possibly when fit, though how to fit him in is an issue? Where and who for?)

    I wouldn't be surprised if Martinez sits out for Maguire. Might be asking a lot to play two games so close together after such a long and complicated injury. He was icing his foot at the end of the game as well.

    Obviously I hope he does play, he's our most important defender, along with Shaw.

    I have my doubts about Licha after he was icing his foot straight away on Thursday. Let's hope it was just a case of being overly cautious.

    Spurs will pound Everton and Villa will smash Sheffield, so it's pretty important we get the 3 points in this otherwise 4th is going to fall all the way out of sight.

    Any time we've had any sort of positive result or semi positive performance this season, it usually results in tears by the next fixture. Let's see if ETH can break that here.

    It was the game that got David Moyes the job.

    Had we won City wouldn't have become a big club, Moyes wouldn't have got the job and United would've won 5 more Premier Leagues and you can quote me on that.
